OT - Raiola Suspended for Green Bay Game

Submitted by BlueCube on

Only a Lion would do something this stupid to get himself kicked out of the biggest game in years when the line is already depleted.

If we tie, Dallas gets the 2 seed.

This game is a must win for the Lions playoff chances. Lose this game, we'll get beat by either Dallas/Seattle/Arizona (<with healthy Stanton). If i'm not mistaken, Stafford has never won a road game against a team who finished the season with a winning record. So, yeah.

I love the Lions but this guy for years has been a real DB. For the life of me I don't know why this cancer of a player is still on the team.

i thought Ansah committed to the hit before Claussen went into his slide, which contributed to the helmet to helmet contact. Im'm not saying it didn't deserve the flag, but i didnt think their was intent to injure. Just a timing foul.

Ansah went low on Clausen and was diving to tackle him and when Ansah started diving Clausen was not sliding.  Because Jimmy slid, his helmet went low enough for Ansah's helmet to hit him.  If he stays up, he just get hit in the leg.  Because he was hit in the head though, it should be a penalty (which it was), but I'm not sure if it should be more than that.

To be fair that was a football play and both players were moving quickly. He was punished for it by the flag, and will likely get a fine, but a suspension would be ridiculous. He has no history of head hunting and it was likely just a simple mistake.

Raiola on the other hand has a reputation for scummy behavior (ex. diving at legs during a kneel down) and blatantly tried to injure an opposing player after a play. Raiola has no excuse for his behavior.

I hope you're not saying that Suh is a POS.  From everything I've seen, he's learned from his earlier on-the-field mistakes and toned it down quite a bit (even before Schwartz left).  And reports are that, off the field, he is a great guy.

Raiola, on the other hand, is much older and still hasn't seemed to have matured much.  His actions were not only reckless, but extremely selfish - and he's a repeat offender.

Good, that was ridiculous and I hope he feels like the fool he looked like. There's simply no place in sports for that behavior. Sucks it comes prior to the biggest game in years for the Lions.

Unlikely.  Raiola's history is to follow up a douchey act with a defense of "they had it coming and anyway I didn't do anything wrong."  The guy is a hotheaded clod and he's always been a hotheaded clod, not to mention a thoroughly ineffective run blocker.  The sooner the Lions feel comfortable handing the job over to Travis Swanson, the better.

A complete dick move - and when you consider that he'd already admitted to taking cheap shots at a guy's knee in the NE game, the suspension had to be no surprise. Just in time for the biggest game of the year.

Way to go, Raiola. What you lack in self-control, you make up for in shitty timing.

Raiola is an asshole.  Why are all of the former Nebraska linemen such assholes?  Raiola, Suh, Incognito...etc.

Raiola had better hope that if he ever plays again in the NFL that he is not retailiated against.

He was drafted to eventually replace Raiola.  I'm hoping this turns out to be a blessing in disguise and we can actually run up the middle.  Make it obvious to everyone that Dom is the problem with our running game, screen game, everything.

and hasn't been playing great, but part of the center's game is to be the main guy on O-line calls, and he does that very well.  doesn't show up much on stat sheets, but we will miss that level of competence sunday, and next year when he's gone.
