OT Pistons lose draft pick
Title says it all. The Pistons were picked 9, which gives their first round draft pick to the Charlotte Hornets.
LAME!
Beyond annoyed with how this turned out. I hope Cleveland picks Darko Jr.
Meh the "Win-dians" are a whooping 9.5 games back already, just not a good night for JV.
"The NBA rigged the lottery for Cleveland".
THE ok NBA keep going RIGGED uh-huh THE yea LOTTERY im with you FOR sure CLEVELAND. you completely lost me.
im all for conspiracy theories. the nba has no cred with me. but there needs to be some logic behind the theory.
"The NBA rigged the lottery for Clevaland... so that... they could make less money...?" doesnt add up.
Does anyone really question if the NBA is rigged anymore? Good grief. How many times has Cleveland had the #1 pick?
Why would the NBA so obsessively want Cleveland to get better that they'd throw them one #1 pick after the next? If Boston had one, people would claim conspiracy. If the Lakers had won, people would claim conspiracy. If New York had won, people would claim conspiracy.
The recent winners (since 2000) aren't exactly a who's who of teams that the NBA should want to stack to improve its ratings:
New Jersey, Washington, Houston, Cleveland, Orlando, Milwaukee, Toronto, Portland, Chicago, LA Clippers, Washington, LA Clippers, New Orleans, Cleveland, Cleveland
Sometimes probability just works out in funny ways, like it did here with Cleveland.
Detroit to lose their pick
At some point the NBA needs to say, "You can only be shitty for so long" and change the way they do things. If you've won 3 lotteries in 5 years, I mean, that can't happen... If you're still struggling to make the playoffs even though you're dominating the lottery, you desrve to be shat upon as an organization.
Like the Ted Stepien rule of old, maybe we need a new rule built around the Cavs to say, "Hey, look, we can't keep rewarding you for being the shittiest franchise in the NBA with number 1 picks. At some point you're going to have to figure this out on your own."
So who is this year's Bennett in the draft because you know they'll find a way to screw up the easiest 1-2-3 picks ever?
I think Embiid has the potential to be the next Michael Olowokandi. Hopefully the Cavs jump all over that.
"Since the lottery moved to its present format in 1994, the team with (or tied for) the best odds has won three of the 20 lotteries."
I understand 20 is a small sample size, but that seems very small. Does anyone have the distribution of expected vs actual?
Well the worst team has a 25% chance of getting the first pick. So 3 out of 20 isn't bad since it should theoretically be 5 out of 20.
Actually, according to Wikipedia, those numbers are wrong. The lottery went to the weighted formula in 1990, when the worst team (Nets) won the lottery. The "tweaked" the format in 1994 to the current system. 2 teams have won the lottery with the worst record since 1994; Cleveland tied in 2003 when they got LeBron.
So, the stats should be, 2 out of the last 20 (10%) have gone to the team with the worst record. In the "weighted" age of the lottery, the number is 3 out of 24 (12.5%). Ironically, they were doing better in the old system (1 of 4 worst teams winning) than they are in the new system.

Cataracts at 18 months old, pretty much had them my whole life. I can wear contacts though, so it's not that big a deal.
I do not understand the NBA draft at all. How did the Pistons lose their pick? Why is it Dumars's fault?
A couple of years ago, Detroit traded Ben Gordon and a protected draft pick to the Charlotte Hornets for Corey Maggette (a deal made to get Ben Gordon's horrible contract off the team). This year that pick was top-8 protected (so if Detroit's pick was 8 or better, Detroit would have kept the pick). Since Detroit ended up getting the 9th pick, Charlotte gets it.
Damn, that's rough.
to the Dumars era.
I regard the Piston's in a similar light as the Lion's.....laugh at their ineptitude and hope like hell that no Michigan Man has to ever be associated with those franchises.
to win mutliple NBA championships and very few to win back to back. They're a good franchise except when they have their lean years after going to ECF for 6 straight years.
The Piston's have a great history and are a very accomplished franchise. I was more or less speaking in regards to the the last 5 years or so. Maybe I shouldn't have compared them to the lion's, but it was to just get the point across as to how bad theyve been the last few years
Unreal.
Mallory Edens is a babe.
is. The pistons ALWAYS get screwed by the lottery
Well you can't really blame 2003 on the lottery...
That's why we got the number two pick overall in a year with Lebron, DWade, Bosh, while also playing in the Conference Finals.
While this sucks, Yes, yes we absolutely had to get rid of Ben Gordon at that time. (but I am pissed that Dumars gave him that horrible contract in the 1st place.
