OT-Malik Zaire hasnt decided yet where he is transferring to
Per TomHV, he is still deciding between Wisconsin, North Carolina, Florida, and Texas! I think the Texas offense would be the best fit for him personally if he could beat out the current starter!

Good God, if he waits much longer, his name will have changed to Malik Democratic Republic of Congo...
...geo-political humor
Yeah, but somebody downvoted my geo-political humor??!! I'm Mobutu get mad up in here!
Uganda have people that are like that, ya know?
Yeah, they are super annoying. Sometimes I just wanna kick them in the Djibouti...
Sometimes Rwanda what people are thinking but, if it makes you feel better I thought your pun was Amazon.
I have a Yeti on my desk right now
Your's is a better choice though
He is waiting on the SEC to change their rule so that Florida (currently banned from accepting grad transfers this year and next) could accept him.
Vote is today, so guessing the decision will come soon thereafter. To me, that means Florida is the leader unless the vote goes against them, which seems unlikely.
The rule is a SEC rule that if you take a grad transfer and he fails to go to close or get a passing grade for that semester, you are banned from taking another for 3 years, and I belive they had 2 within that time frame. I think the other schools in the SEC will prevent this from being changed right now, but it might get changed going forward. We will see, but the only argument Florida is using is that other conferences don't have such a rule, and it puts them at a competitive disadvantage. That sounds funny coming from the SEC.
to begin with? If it doesn't get passed this is on them. I think most coaches will agree to pass this because they don't see him as a threat and could future benefit from this rule change in the future.
The SEC has rules?
Does Pete know about this?
that the other SEC schools would waive the rule to allow Florida to get better this year. Unless, of course, they are all in the same/similar boats (not out of teh question). But, unless they have someone waiting for news like Zaire, this seems like a "good idea, thanks for raising it Florida. Let's take it up next year."
This! I'm not sure why everyone assumes this is a slam dunk rule change. I would assume that all 8 schools on Florida's schedule would vote against making Florida better this year. I wouls assume that Alabama would vote against giving the team they will probably face again in the SEC championship (or Georiga, but for sake of argument...) an experienced mobile quarterback.
I wouldn't put it past SEC coaches to say "fuck it, I'll take a harder Florida team this year so that we can be sketchy in the future", but I'm not sure why this vote is talked about as a given. It seems that basic logic would say that most SEC coaches would be against changing this rule to make one team in the conference better.
Hey guys we could use Zaire against Michigan, so lets quit playing skool.
Also, if Im a team thats going to be playing Florida every year it would make sense for me to vote against them this time.
He seems like a decent enough athlete and has a nice arm but I think TH likes runny guys over throwy guys.
Buechele (the returning UT QB) actually has more on-field experience, I believe, than Zaire, thanks to years of Kelly's waffling over his QBs. And he's only a true sophomore with presumably more room to grow than a 5th yr Zaire.
And from what I understand of Herman's influence on offense - I think he's actually more a passing specialist. OSU's passing game took a hit when he left. And I think he's got a reputation as a QB guru.
They are actually opposite situations, in terms of age vs. experience.
UM: Speight is older and has more experience over Peters.
UT: Buechele is younger but has more experience over Zaire.
He also knows the receivers on the team (assuming they haven't all transferred). We saw how important that is when Rudock showed up in August. Darboh and Chesson improved significantly as receivers over the course of the season but a large part of the improvement in the passing game came as Rudock learned their tendencies.
If Florida doesn't change the rule, I'm not sure he starts or even plays at any of the other 3 schools. WI seems satisfied with RS SO Hornibrook. Bucky's 5th Quarter seems to think that Malik wouldn't choose WI and that it was mostly just rumors. I don't see UT benching Buechele and NC already took a QB. IMO, at best, he comes in competing for a job at UNC and is probably in another platoon situation.
I give Zaire a 0% chance to beat out Shane Buechele at Texas.
I don't think he has a chance to beat out Hornibrook at Wisconsin either. I'm not sure about NC's QB situation now that Mitch is gone.
I don't want Zaire at Wisconsin. Hornibrook is a smart and accuarate QB but his terrible arm strength really limits the extent to which Wisconsiin can threaten downfield. Zaire would be a total upgrade--there might be some growing pains early in the season, but by the time M visits Camp Randall that offense could be scary.
From what I can remember, Wisconsin's receiving corps (sans Fumagalli at TE who is a monster) was extremely underwhelming.
It looks like their projected starters for 2017 are Jazz Peavy and Quintez Cephus. I am a bit familiar with Peavy--I think he was their kick returner last season, so I imagine he's a good run-after-catch guy. Cephus is a sophomore who had four receptions last year; the Badgers are evidently pretty excited about him as a big-play threat. (Apparently Cephus' father was tragically murdered in April, so there are a bunch of articles on that, BTW).
In any case, no matter who their receivers are, Wisconsin would be a tougher opponent with Zaire than without him. I have to concede that Hornibrook could hang onto his job regardless because he's so efficient at managing that offense. But I think they would give Zaire every opportunity to take over, becuase it's just so difficult to create space for your passing game with a QB who can't really push the ball more than about 25-30 yards downfield.
Yeah, I really can't think of another QB that has such a weak arm on a rather strong team. His accuracy is top notch, though.
I just don't see any other fit for him other than UF.
Even at UF, he won't be the guaranteed starter all year. Nothing will be easy for him. But their defense still looks very solid even after losing a lot of guys to the NFL, so maybe he can get away with a lot of mistakes if they squeak out wins.
At the risk of taking this thread further off topice, Buechele's father Steve was a pretty good MLBer for more than a decade.
Buechele was OK but not great as a freshman. But more importantly, Zaire fits what Tom Herman generally looks for as far as being a running threat at QB (Braxton Miller, JT Barrett, Greg Ward). Buechele is mobile enough, but isn't really a running threat.
Hornibrook wasn't that good at Wisconsin. Not sure why you don't think Zaire would have a chance there.
Alternatively, Zaire couldn't beat out two different QBs at ND to earn consistent playing time.
Another way to look at it is that he initially won the job at ND at the end of the 2014 season by beating out a multi-year starter who had taken the team to the national championship game (Golson), then started the 2015 season ahead of a guy who just became a second-round pick (Kizer) before getting hurt. It's not like his time at ND was unimpressive, he just had stiff competition and couldn't stay healthy.
He's not having academic issues, Florida is.
The SEC has a rule about grad transfers -- they should actually get a (graduate) degree. You can only have so many who don't before you face limits. The SEC is voting today on changing the rule. As the rule stands, Florida cannot take grad transfers this year.
Isn't the whole point of a punishment to actually have a punishment? Why can there just be a vote to get rid of a punishment when the school wants to do something?
It's the SEC. The vote is just a formality.
They'll do whatever the fuck they want to.
Zaire will be in a Florida uniform this summer.
Seriously, what would happen to Florida if they just ignored the rule?
