OT - Little Sam Gordon goes all "Denard" on the rest of the boys in Peewee football.
I searched and didn't see this posted and just wanted to share this little girl's highlight video.
Here is the link to the Huffington Post article

And the highlight video link in question. My apologies, I can't embed to save my life.

I wonder when Lane Kiffin is going to offer.

I love seeing little girls not afraid of being aggressive. Plus, she is just smokin' fast.

I think some school in Arizona should offer her a scholarship now.

What impressive physical gifts and instincts for the game she brings to the field!
November 7th, 2012 at 11:26 PM ^
she's got moves, speed and power; and is probably making some little boys cry.
November 7th, 2012 at 11:26 PM ^
...I love Sam's First Play and how the camera man can barely keep up with her burning down the field. Obviously the plays are sped up on the video, but she is significantly faster than all of the other players. Pretty cool to see.
November 7th, 2012 at 11:32 PM ^
She made the wrong read a few times but overall pretty good. ;)
November 7th, 2012 at 11:47 PM ^
Holy shit peewee football is way more vicous than i remember, there little bodies collide so fast. Also what peewee football team is running the zone read?
November 7th, 2012 at 11:59 PM ^
I think it's interesting/hilarious how fast their little legs turn over. I wonder if that's something that stays fairly constant with age, but stride length just gets longer. It'd be interesting to do a study on.
November 8th, 2012 at 12:10 AM ^
While she is still fast relative to the boys she is playing against, this footage was pretty obviously sped up. Regardless...the girl can play. I wonder how much longer she will be able to keep it up.

The run at 2:28 bears an uncanny resemblence to Denard's 87 yd TD run against ND
November 8th, 2012 at 12:23 AM ^
she's like Lolo Jones but fast!

I'm still trying to figure out who is doing the punkish cover of LA Woman. Google is not being my friend in my efforts to find it.

I had to stop watching because of that song. Was like WTF that music sounds familiar ... oh... really?

Bob Stoops says hello to that.
She is really good. Great vision, speed and cuts too.
Natural football player. She is the 9 year old female RB version of Jake Ryan. Including the hair.
November 8th, 2012 at 1:16 AM ^
She had a solid defensive highlight reel too. Some of those hits and the relentless pursuit reminded me of Jake Ryan. And she's got that manly blonde hair sticking out of her helmet like Jake.

I hope she's having as much fun as she appears to be and she's able to stick with it as she gets older. The best 11 players should see field and there's no reason to think she won't be one of those for many years to come.
It doesn't surprise me that Peewee football would run zone reads. Run them "correctly" by leaving the playside end unblocked and reading them? Maybe not but I see no reason why 8 or 9 year olds couldn't manage the snap and the hand off (or called fake).

I wasn't sure tackling was even allowing until about the 3 minute mark. Also, why would you kick to her??!!??
November 8th, 2012 at 4:44 AM ^
There was a 7th grade girl on my son's team this year. And she was very good (you pretty much have to be, if you're going to stick it out as a girl.)
You can manage this in Pee Wee / / Pop Warner leagues, because the weight is approximately the same, and the hits, while hard, are only so hard. Once you are in open leagues (i.e., high school and college,) you are much less likely to see girls playing competitively on the field. But I'm sure it is happening somewhere (girls playing in HS at positions other than kicker.)
November 8th, 2012 at 9:32 AM ^
I read that she is 60 punds and there is a guy on her team who is 150 (sidenote that is a large 9 year old) but you can see in the video some of those players double her in size so its not like everything is equal. Also its not like Denard is that big of a guy and I know some girls on the crew team bigger than jeremy gallon, the size difference isn't as big a factor as some people make it out to be

Nick Mangold's sister, Holly played OL in High School. She's an Olympic Weight Lifter now
November 8th, 2012 at 6:28 AM ^
....for those that prefer to watch it in-thread, as it were.
This was fun to watch really. It's Pee Wee League, of course, but she seems to be a natural at the game and has great instincts when running with the ball. She was fighting for yards and has pretty sound tackling technique for the age group too. Very cool find, and thanks for sharing, OP.

Does this video remind anyone else of DK mode/big head mode in the original Goldeneye 007 game?
November 8th, 2012 at 10:40 AM ^
Hahaha yes. Their helmets look ridiculous!

November 8th, 2012 at 8:38 AM ^
She's getting a ton of yards despite running into a loaded box on every play. I'm not sure I've ever seen a good passing offense at that level, plus I'm sure that opposing coaches are doing everything they can to try and slow her down. Thanks for sharing OP.
Anyone know if there are any girls playing at the D1 level in college? The last I can remember was a kicker for New Mexico in the early 2000's, don't think there has been one sense.

Lisa Simpson: What position have you got for me?
[the kids gasps]
Lisa Simpson: That's right. A girl who wants to play football. How about that?
Ned Flanders: Well, thats super-duper, Lisa. We've already got four girls on the team.
Lisa Simpson: You do?
Ned Flanders: Uh huh. But we'd love to have you on board!
Lisa Simpson: Well... football's not really my thing. After all... what kind of civilized person would play a game with the skin of an innocent pig?
Ned Flanders: Well, actually, Lisa, these balls are synthetic!
Janey Powell: And for every ball you buy, a dollar goes to Amnesty International!
Lisa Simpson: [crying] I've gotta go!

I see a lot of missed tackles... what a speedy little roadrunner! I'm glad that she appears to be doing something she loves, and is supported by her coach, team and family. Go Sam!

I'm not even sure if I want to hear what Fred Jackson thinks of her. I may explode with the awesomeness.

...there was another pee wee football highlight reel from many years ago. The undersized kid ran for touchdown after touchdown. He was unstoppable as a pee wee. One of the greatest pee wee football records in history.
By the time he got to high school, as an undersized and not-incredibly-fast RB, he became ordinary, and barely got any low-level offers.
Who is the kid I am thinking of? I think he was from California; I can't find the name...

It is a blast to see her run around out there. Kind of drives home the fact that everyone matures at a different rate, and that gender differences really have less to do with overall athleticism than just the size of men and women as they grow.
