MSU: "Those Who Have Stayed Are Already Champions"

Submitted by Wee-Bey Brice on

Looks like our friends from EL are out trolling again... I can't help but think they'll regret every word come Oct. 29

Pride comes before the fall or something like that

I'd like to go for two every time we score on October 29th. Even when we're ahead by a huge margin, just keeping going for two. And then surprise onside kick to start the second half. And then go for two (because we can't go for three) ((to borrow a saying from another program)).

With fire. We can take one of their long standing traditions, steal it, then troll them with it. Any suggestions as to a MSU's long standing tradition? (Player arrests don't count)

Wouldn't it sound better if they said "Three B1G Championships in the past 6 years" instead of Three B1G championships in the past nine years?

Why point out the three extra years without a championship?

And who are the Detroit Spartans?

Irony is what defines the day here.

MSU has slowly but steadily become everything it ever hated about Michigan. They despised us for being arrogant and looking down our noses at them. Well now the shoe is on the other foot.

Pride comes before the fall, Sparty. I think one of your own mentioned that somewhere along the line.

Speaking of "bitter rivals": I'm watching the Pac 12 preview - because FOOTBALL - and they are reviewing Washington's season. The commentator says, "they start off their season with a very soft schedule..." - Rutgers is their first game. I got a quick chuckle out of that.

I always thought the phrase "those who stay will be champions" was a bit silly to be repeated.  Kind of like the "Michigan Man" phrase.

A little brother is one who defines himself entirely by the example set by his big brother, and how he measures up to said sibling.

<Reads that picture> BINGO!!!

I never realized that Sparty's obsession with Michigan transcended success on the football field such that even at the peak of their success over 7 years, our little brothers are still good for that annual reminder that the University of Michigan was, is and always will be their entire world.

The sharpest contrast between our two programs is that Michigan's vision is national in scope, and transcends MSU and Ohio State.  We measure ourselves nationally both in academics and athletically.  MSU's vision is comprised of one and only one thing - "how do we measure up to Michigan?"

Karma, gravity, fate, and self-inflicted obsession like this picture are all always there to remind all of us of Sparty's place as nothing more than a regional program.  Exhibit B would be Sparty's responce to their first chance at a national championship in half a century by taking the shape of a wack-a-mole under the Alabama Crimson elephant's 38-0 stomp in the CFB playoff.  Translation:  "Get on your bike Sparty and get back to your region and get back to obsessing over Michigan like is your lot in life."

This picture says "Yessir!"

Thanks for reminding us you obsess over us Sparty.  We enjoy that yearly laugh.

In 2007, MSU had us beaten with their brand new head coach and we snatched victory from their hands. Then our players talked trash Dantonio angrily gave the "pride comes before the fall" speech. They proceeded to own us for almost a decade. Last year our hot new coach had them beaten and had victory snatched from his grasp. MSU proceeded to talk trash. Let's hope the role reversal continues.

Which was itself a response. As was the "moment of silence", which was what initially set Dantonio off. At this point it doesn't matter, but the way he's acted the last few years after his self-righteous indignation that day marks him as an utter hypocrite. And, as has been pointed out in another response, he got down in the dirt with a 21 year-old.
