Michigan-ND Score Prediction Thread
What's your prediction for the score this weekend?
I think ND's woeful lack of experience in the secondary, combined with their struggles defending runs to the outside is a nightmare matchup against Denard. I haven' t been terribly impressed by ND's offense either. Golson looks fine rolling out, but while he has the arm strength to make any downfield throw, the accuracy is seemingly lacking.
My prediction: 35-17, Michigan.
Brian Kelly's goes all:
in the 4th quarter.

But all 38 points are scored in the final 1:41.
Seriously, M by a score of 41-35.

35-31 baby. WIn by 4.

28-23
Both teams move the ball, UM in fits and spurts that either get down the field in big chunks or stall out. Enough big completions and Denard magic happen to reach the endzone 4 times. ND will dink and dunk their way against our bend but don't break defense and get a couple touchdowns but are otherwise turned away with field goals and one red-zone turnover.
I'm feeling UM will be up all game with ND mounting a promising but ultimately futile surge late.

Mattison releases his blitz package and chaos ensues. Kovacs 2 sacks; Ryan lives in the backfield; ND throws 2 picks.

Don't let it rain like it did during RichRod's first trip down there. Not with a freshman fielding kicks. If it's a muddy slogfest, I think Denard and an up-to-speed Fitz figure out a way to win, with the defense doing just enough. UM 24, ND 19

We are all in . . . Michigan 23 ND 17
Gotta' believe that Alabama was Alabama and the Irish are the Irish!

brain says 31-21 bad guys.
Heart says 34-31 bad guys...I'm sorry our DLine just scares me right now and I just dont have great confidence they can mount enough pressure or force ND in enough 3rd and longs.
I have no question Denard will keep the game close but in the end for me the Dline is the reason this team will win or lose.

Michigan 31
ND 27
Because, obviously. Denard will light up the secondary while getting better-than-expected protection from the offensive line. We will kill them with quite a few screens, and we will get a couple key turnovers from our defense. Brian Kelly's face will turn purple and all will be right with the world.

That is what my score was vs them in NCAA 13'
Butt since they won't replay my NCAA game film on Saturday night instead, my actual prediction is Michigan 31 - ND 27

UM - 28
ND - 24
Denard throws for 200+ yards and 2 TD's (NO INT's), runs for 80+ yards and another TD. Golson has an equally impressive performance, but throws a costly INT late in the 4th quarter.

I'm thinking both teams drive but have trouble putting it over the line; Michigan wins by going deep at least once.

I don't think we will be able to move consistently on ND's front 7, but we should be able to exploit that secondary for some big plays. Defensively we should be ok as ND doesn't have the playmakers they had last year and hung just 20 on Purdue and MSU.
September 21st, 2012 at 2:17 PM ^
Tied at 0:25 4th Qtr. Then channeling the inner brunette girl, Gibbons puts through a 48-yd field goal to shatter the 80,000 domer fans' hearts.

Brian Kelly's face resumes the natural puple color he maintained during last year's game. Go Blue!

I think MSU is better than ND and that they just choked big time in that game. Even last years MSU team was very good but ended up getting smoked by ND. It's just what Sparty does. Most people are basing how good ND is based on that win, which I really think is almost meaningless.
I think we get our first defensive TD and Frank Clark has a huge game. Funchess goes beast-mode, Roundtree returns to the slot. Slants will be open all day as LBs will bring pressure or drop into coverage. Eifert probably burns us on some big 3rd downs. Norfleet will play gorgeous.
35-31 Michigan wins.

here's my take, somewhat similar:
For all the hype over ND's defense following their win in East Lansing over spartie, I'm not convinced. That was against Andrew f'n Maxwell, an over-rated, inexperienced statue of a qb running an offense behind a lousy offensive line. While Michigan's O-Line has shown little so far, it's still better than what spartie had out there last week, and Denard is much better, ESPECIALLY on his feet, than Maxwell. The key, I think, is that Denard is able to buy time with his feet to wait for receivers to find holes in a very leaky Irish secondary and forces ND to defend his ability to take off and run, which will draw in the defense even more and leave a lot of one-on-one coverage on our receivers.
The ingredients are certainly there for Denard to have a huge day.
On D, if we can keep the Irish under control on the ground (<150 yds) we can then force their rs freshman QB to beat us. IMO, he showed he can manage an offense by beating msu, but he has yet to show that he can win a game at crunch time. Does this mean we see old "Purple Top" Kelly again put in Tommy Rees to bail Golson out in the 4th quarter?
U of M 31 ND 27. The 4-point trend continues...
September 21st, 2012 at 2:24 PM ^
So I'll go back to my old prediction-
But anyone not picking a 4 point game is going against the trend...
September 21st, 2012 at 2:26 PM ^
Hy head's telling me that it will remain close throughout the game, but Notre Dame will withstand a 4th quarter rally, stop Denard on the final drive, and hold on to win 24-21.That defense, outside of the secondary, is so vastly improved, and so absolutely hellbent on not letting Denard embarress them a third straight time.
But this is Michigan-Notre Dame. Since when does using logic ever amount to anything close to what's represented on the scoreboard at the end of the game?
My heart says Denard adds one more notch to his belt, and rips Notre Dame's heart out yet again 35-31. After this game, Denard Robinson will be forever referred to among the Notre Dame faithful as he-who-shall-not-be-named.

Wolverines score easily with big plays through the air. Special teams gives us good field position all night.
Cierre Wood runs for 150 but it is not enough to overcome ND's 3 missed field goals.

Notre Dame 45 - Michigan 40
Double-overtime heart-breaker. F-me.
September 21st, 2012 at 2:52 PM ^
I'm wondering how a 45-40 score in OT would even be possible...
September 21st, 2012 at 3:08 PM ^
Easy.
Notre Dame scores a touchdown and gets the two point conversion in the first possession of the second OT, Michigan has to settle for a field goal in the second possession.
Math!

Seriously? Michigan would either be down eight and go for the TD and 2-pointer or be up by three when ND would score a TD and the game would be over. 5-point OT victories aren't possible.
