Informative thread titles please!
Hate to be that guy but it has been getting bad lately!
January 18th, 2011 at 11:27 AM ^
It's actually ok to be "that guy" in this instance.
January 18th, 2011 at 11:55 AM ^
Did someone say that guy??
January 18th, 2011 at 12:19 PM ^
but not That Guy.

NF at all.
January 18th, 2011 at 1:29 PM ^
Where'd you get my picture?
January 18th, 2011 at 4:15 PM ^
Not much, but he's growing a buckstache!!
January 18th, 2011 at 11:24 AM ^
But nothing concrete. Probably depends on our class size. He may actually be an attractive option since he can play for a year but not affect scholarship numbers for the 2012 class.
January 18th, 2011 at 12:30 PM ^
I know that when you transfer from D-1 to D-2 you don't have to sit out a year. What about when you go from D-1 to D-2 and then back to D-1?
January 18th, 2011 at 11:29 AM ^
His Twitter account says that he can't work out with the team until next week.
I guess he's back.

What happened to him in the first place? I don't even really remember him leaving...
January 18th, 2011 at 11:33 AM ^
He transferred before the 09 season---I want to say Richmond, but an not 100% and yes he is back on the team.
January 18th, 2011 at 11:34 AM ^
Hampton.
January 18th, 2011 at 11:45 AM ^
Welcome back!
January 18th, 2011 at 11:34 AM ^
He started against Utah as a R-Fr (?) in that "hybrid" LB/SS in Shafer/RR's 4-3/3-3-5/3-4. Then he was a special teamer for the rest of the year. transferred to Hampton and played for them for (I think) the last 2 years.
If he's back, he'd be a WLB (I assume), special team's monster, and a Senior.
It would be a great story if he was back
January 18th, 2011 at 11:42 AM ^
Does anyone know where that would put him academically? I wonder how two years at Hampton transfers to Michigan credits. Its not often that a kid ends up further in his athletic eligibility than his academic standing (senior eligibility, junior standing) is it? Just curious.
January 18th, 2011 at 12:00 PM ^
...in order to be eligible to participate in athletics, a student's academic standing must match or exceed his eligibility. Since he will have one year of football eligibility remaining, it's likely that he has junior standing right now and to be eligible in the fall would have to have senior academic standing.
Transferring from an accredited 4-yr college like Hampton is not the same thing as transferring from a JUCO. The likelihood that his classes transfer as credits is high, but there's always the possibility that specific credit to a degree program might have some mismatches which would require some catch up or continued courses beyond a fourth year.
But speculating about a student's academic standing is probably best left as: if the university admitted him and he says he will soon be eligibile to practice with the team, he's probably ok (for now).
January 18th, 2011 at 12:16 PM ^
I agree - speculating or opining about a specific student's academic standing is not appropriate. I hope it was clear that I was asking a plain-vanilla question about the rule regarding academic standing lagging behind athletic eligibily and you answered it well, I think. Thanks for taking the time.

she can't block anyone...Aundrey is pretty big time though...It would be interesting if he wasn't such an OSU lean.

for the possibility that this is a recent move. but i think this may have been scheduled before. not sure if it's still on.

I confuzzled on the whole Evans saga. Can someone enlighten me (and presumably a handful of others) who may be in the dark?
January 18th, 2011 at 12:02 PM ^
He left at the same time as Vince Helmuth. I bumped into Vince Helmuth at speedway shortly after, and he was decked out in Michigan gear. Someone asked him why he was leaving, and he replied, "They're not going to pay for my school."

Marell Evans a two star Carr recruit left the team prior to the 2009 season over what he perceived as a lack of playing time and coaching uncertainty. He left with no ill will against then Coach Rodriguez.

Scout has an article on this breaking development but it is behind the dreaded wall of pay.

Thank you for the links.
I had to chuckle at this little tidbit from the first link:
In the good news department freshmen defensive back Justin Turner has been declared eligible by the NCAA and can begin practicing with the team immediately. Turner is a highly skilled recruit who figures to make an instant impact in the thin Michigan secondary.
By chuckle I mean, not vomit.
January 18th, 2011 at 11:54 AM ^
Hampton is a University, so he won't have the same credit transfer issues that junior/community college transfers do.
He might drop a few credits, but my guess is most transfer no problem.
January 18th, 2011 at 12:18 PM ^
Can anyone here remember a case where a guy left, went somewhere else, and came back wtih eligibility? I guess maybe Jason Forcier was close a couple of years ago.
January 18th, 2011 at 12:27 PM ^
Related question, I wonder if we can expect a little more of this. Vlad and Turner could both be potential re-commits. I'm sure Hoke could use a few players to fill in the gaps who also know Michigan.
January 18th, 2011 at 1:49 PM ^
...for Vlad, he's now at Toledo and will have to sit out a partial season there. If he were to transfer back, he'd need to sit out another year. That hardly seems worthwhile for him.
As far as Turner goes, clearly that (fully laden) ship has sailed.
January 18th, 2011 at 2:15 PM ^
Well played with the Turner remark.

brilliant. Nicely played.

both on defense. yay!

I looked over the hampton football stats and I can't find any on him, if anyone else can share I'd like to see them.
January 18th, 2011 at 3:33 PM ^
He played one game in his two years at Hampton, against NC A&T in 2010, and did not appear to record any statistics.
January 18th, 2011 at 1:55 PM ^
He was going to transfer to Oklahoma, but they would not accept his credits, so he is happy to be back.
In the time before he left, he was working out hard and looked like a complete beast. He is a funny, hardworking guy and a team player that I was sad to see go, but happy he is back.
Although he had no bad things to say about RR, he is excited to play for a coach that takes pride in defense.
January 18th, 2011 at 2:17 PM ^
The line on Marell Evans was that he was a very hard worker and was recruited because Minor said that Marell Evans worked harder than he did. Hopefully he is an impact transfer/recruit.
