There was the part about him…

There was the part about him not having bail revoked after a jury found him guilty of a violent rape, and discussed how rare this is, how it has not happened before or since… and the violent spree he went on just after. They also briefly mentioned the PSU “fixer” who gave free legal counsel to athletes and suggested that his relationship to the judge may have resulted in this strange handling of the case.   I wouldn’t say they did the right thing if what the article suggests is accurate.

So excited to read this.

Somebody downvoted me, hopefully they realize he/she put more effort into Washington than OSU. Some good parts of this article for sure, and thanks for whatever content you chose to compile, but this is my constructive feedback. Downvote if you must.

I get it blah blah impending…

I get it blah blah impending doom OSU.

But it would be nice to see a breakdown of their performances.

For the other teams, you put in context their performances, we get a feel for the flow of their season, their strengths, weaknesses, injury issues. At a minimum can we cover that?

Seems infantile to plug your ears and not give us OSU related content knowing that’s the most important thing to our fan base.

For all the people that…

For all the people that think his - I like players who like football - was throwing last years team under the bus, i think it reads like he’s talking about this years roster.

That our team this year is mostly full of players who love the game and want to get better, but those that don’t have that attitude avoid him.

With so many guys, there will always be a few to transfer, graduate, be cool with not playing, partying too much, not taking school seriously. And it’s a process of constantly weeding them out.

Sounds like we have a good group of - I like football - guys, hope it continues in years to come.

I appreciate the thought and…

I appreciate the thought and perspective but I view it a little bit like pressure vs. coverage. One may be a touch more important than the other and can cover up for deficiencies with the other, but it’s really about both.

Having a clear understanding of your offense, the defensive scheme, your protections, and knowing how to progress through your reads, taking easy stuff when it’s there, and being able to get into the correct play all play a part.  There were surely some oline busts but I think it’s on the qb and offensive coaching staff as a whole, rather than primarily oline issues.

Looking just at the numbers, not terrible relative to our rivals etc.  They are ranked by points which is a mix of # of commits and avg. rating.

Disappointing to see so many ranked at #30 or lower in the conferenece, and this class is pretty much complete.

I also navigated over to the all conference tab and pulled out some head coaches, as we obviously need our next CEO to live and breathe recruiting in addition to about a million other things, but an enthusiastic recruiter would be nice. Many head coaches delegate primary recruiting responsibilities, but found it interesting anyway.

If you're using the image to promote your service, other than it being a photo of your service with their stuff in it, you can get in trouble.

Thanks for the reply. I’m an…

Thanks for the reply. I’m an infrequent poster and often don’t share my opinion, but in this case I visited this website to check in on the likely to be cancelled season, and this ad was large front and center, I had a specific question about fair use (new term to me), NIL, and changing laws that I don’t quite keep up with (California legislation leading the way?).  This was just a good illustration of a question I’ve had for a while.. hope it was appropriate to post..

You answered my question, and I in no way was hoping to put down the blog, and I support players collecting a paycheck for their image being used. I now have a more clear understanding of the specifics around fair use.  No need for the personal attack. You summed up my intentions at the end of your comment:

If you weren't just being an asshole and
honestly want to understand Fair Use I'm happy to talk about it because it's a very important right that gets stepped on often these days.

I’m wondering if there is…

I’m wondering if there is language in the contracts NFL and college players sign where they give up their right to their image.

In this hypothetical poster of JJ Watt, Khalil Mack, Aaron Donald, and (college) Bush, is anyone getting paid? Could the NFL or NCAA sue you for using their image in an unapproved fashion? Perhaps using Brady Quinn’s image in an ND jersey to sell butt plugs would be frowned upon.

Does mgo have to pay anyone for the images they use in HTTV? Just the photographers who might own or license their work? Or free.99 for any image on google?

So anyone can take any image…

So anyone can take any image of anyone else for public use, interesting - had no idea.

I thought if you were using someones image to sell something, that person is owed compensation, guess I don't really understand advertising.

Data coming in that shows…

Data coming in that shows lasting heart damage for those that were infected with COVID-19 for patients that 1) were otherwise healthy and 2) did not require hospitalization during the course of their illness.

Your point stands - you don't want to pass it to those more vulnerable than your average person, but please note that you also don't want it yourself.  There is likely lasting damage that persists even in those without severe symptoms.

One study examined the cardiac MRIs of 100 people who had recovered from Covid-19 and compared them to heart images from 100 people who were similar but not infected with the virus. Their average age was 49 and two-thirds of the patients had recovered at home. More than two months later, infected patients were more likely to have troubling cardiac signs than people in the control group: 78 patients showed structural changes to their hearts, 76 had evidence of a biomarker signaling cardiac injury typically found after a heart attack, and 60 had signs of inflammation.

These were relatively young, healthy patients who fell ill in the spring, Valentina Puntmann, who led the MRI study, pointed out in an interview. Many of them had just returned from ski vacations. None of them thought they had anything wrong with their hearts.

Up for debate if you…

Up for debate if you consider Cat's Cradle a classic

I would but also found that most people don't appreciate Vonnegut enough... this is a great place to start and feeds into the next two books God Bless you, Mr. Rosewater and Breakfast of Champions.

He has a uniquely witty and sarcastic style that weaves fiction into a historical context and can make you think (Cat's Cradle explores the life of the creator of the atomic bomb and the idea of religiosity).

For sure my favorite author of all time. Enjoy if you choose to dive in.

A QB with ball security…

A QB with ball security issues is the worst possible thing to have to deal with on offense.  I have no proof for this, but I feel like Harbaugh promised Patterson the guaranteed starting job in order to get his transfer, and this significantly hampered the development of the QBs we recruited and were on the team - fewer reps in practice and fewer game speed reps to improve.  A pattern I've seen before with Harbaugh that has a lasting impact on the program.

For me, if we were gonna lose 3 games and have zero shot at winning the B10 - why didn't we (Harbaugh) give our younger guys game reps to develop them - take the lumps and learning moments in a year where we were already having a sub par season and have the guys more ready to compete the next year.

Seems logical to me... but its incredibly frustrating and the same strategy he displayed in 2017 - to stick with the older transfer QB and hamper the development of QBs on the roster during a lost/losing season.  O'korn started 9 games in 2017 where he threw for 2 touchdowns and 6 interceptions on 6.2 YPA and nothing in the run game. I don't need to google any more stats to tell you he was the worst college QB I have ever seen that got significant time, collecting a 4-5 record with wins over Maryland, Minnesota, Rutgers, and Indiana and losses to Michigan State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Ohio State, and South Carolina (bowl).  We were also ranked 115 out of 130 in QB sacked stats for the year, this is on the QB as much as the OL and just another frustrating data point.  All this to say that Milton, McCaffrey, and Peters were tantalizing recruits and on the team - they deserved to grab more reps in practice and to learn at game speed in a lost year.

Your comments about Patterson's awful dropping of the snap reminded me of Speight on the goal line vs OSU in 2016.  At this point in Q3 we are leading 10-7 and on the 1 yard line.    OSU would hit a field goal as regulation time expired to force overtime and Speight dropped the ball on the 1 yard line which should have been an easy TD but at worst a FG and likely the difference in the game and a severe impact on the trajectory of UM and OSU.  Just devastating.

The line between winning and losing is razor thin too and often we shit the bed on a key play.  The unforced errors, lack of execution, and poor quarterback development have us in this position and it is my opinion that poor team leadership and poor roster management by Harbaugh is the primary reason we are still second tier in the B1G.

We need a QB coach who will…

We need a QB coach who will have legitimate influence on they play and the expectation for the position and then actually go out and get the most out of the guy with meaningful results on game day.

Of course I expected Harbaugh to get the most out of our QBs like most people, but that's besides the point.

Part of this is a process that plays out on game day, and might not necessarily help you win that particular game (like putting in McCaffrey once it was clear Shae was not sharp the other day).

Even if all the possible negative things play out for that particular game - a loss (which would have happened anyway), disruption of offensive rhythm, chipping away at QB1's confidence, etc., you gain invaluable live game experience, and are able to make mistakes and learn from them earlier in your career, and progress more quickly.  Not to mention the competitive atmosphere that is created when you open up the reps a bit.

I think QB is of particular importance so I'd like coaching help there, but a close second goes to anyone that can fix this problem: in Michigan's 4 losses they were outscored 91-39 (!!!!) in the first half and 63-39 in the second.

In these losses, we gave up an average of 23 points IN THE FIRST HALF, and scored an average of 20 points for THE ENTIRE GAME.... we could have just forfeited at the coin toss and saved everybody time and heartache if this is how they were going to perform.

He also treats the OSU game…

He also treats the OSU game review like its worthless trash... the fans are an extension of the team and I'll be remembering his punting on these columns (game review, UFR), in the summer while I visit the site less often than I have in years past.

I care about this game the most but please just ignore the aftermath, individual player review, scheme review, silver linings, game theory, coaching points, future projections - you know the stuff that I'm most interested in as a fan and why I come to this blog, not like its important in the grand scheme of things as I won't ever be donning a helmet again.

Regardless of what you…

Regardless of what you choose, I highly suggest downloading AllTrails app.  It works offline, pinpoint live GPS, and the pro comes with several map overlays.  Just a good confidence booster when you're out in the back country if that's the sorta thing you're trying to do.  You can also use it to explore trail options, whether you're the out and back type or planning to get into the backcountry.

Last summer, a few buddies of mine did the Hole in the Wall, and this website: http://enjoyyourparks.com/glacierbrownpass.html has a good description of what you are in for.

As with many backcountry hikes, you meet with the park rangers for an orientation before you set out and they'll give you more precise recommendations.   This type of thing is for experienced groups only and I strongly suggest you know what you are doing as far as meal planning, what to do when/if you see a bear or moose, navigation, camping, weather issues, backcountry first aid, etc.

Have fun be safe!

Recent Alum.

What about non-food costs?

Is there some overall budgeting strategy like a shared credit card (preferred to start building line of credit) or debit reload card for miscellaneous costs?

I listed a few off the top of my head down below...but you might consider that it's his responsibility to take from one of these groups and donate to another, or if he feels that the extra money you are providing is not sufficient he can get a job pretty easily. Working in a library is often a great way to be able to get some reading done while you aren't getting paid.

- Taking a girl on a date (if he's feeling broke a picnic in the arb is suggested)

- Drugs and Alcohol (if he doesn't drink or buy beers he'll have more money to spend on weed, or something like that)

- Coffee shops/snacks/study breaks (dollar here, dollar there, adds up, but also nice to go out for coffee or to a bakery to build relationships and to build his network)

- Groceries (dorm food is overpriced and pretty unhealthy, all the cereal and ice cream and make your own sandwiches that he could ever want, but its nice to keep some healthy snacks in the room, develop a routine)

- Bars/partying (probably unlikely that this cost is $0)

- Dining out (its expensive, and was the main purpose of your post, Ann Arbor has some great restaurants, and quality of life is better as a student with some money, so many awesome places to eat, maybe he does the research and tries one new place each month, each semester, each week?

- Random purchases and activities (might as well call it  $25 because life happens)

I think he could figure out how to pay for all these things with about $100/week ($20 in beer money, $40 at restaurants and coffee shops, and $40 split across the rest depending on what is going on that week.

I strongly suggest he add one thing in the fall or winter semester - if he doesn't need to work for money that's great for him.. but he should volunteer at the Children's hospital, work in a lab relating to his interests, get a job, join a club or activity etc.  It's a great start to being well rounded and most of these things could be with 10-15 hours/week commitment that will greatly enrich his experience at UM.

Logged in just to reply to you even though I barely ever comment... what the fuck, man? I'm personally offended, but I'm not that special.  I'm not the only one with multiple family members who succumbed to cancer as well as survived it.   This story is not about providing a rallying force for the team to finally win some stupid fucking game.

This move by Purdue is just a nice tribute to an inspirational young man.  Some things are bigger than sports and wins/losses.

No comments about the missed double dribble? We didn't play well enough to win but harder still when you're playing against the refs.  In such a close game, every possession matters...

Have not heard the direct quote but if he only wants to come if Patterson is ineligible, he’s afraid of competition and does not belong on this team.

Any reasonable person would like to have more experienced backups, but if he’s only coming back for selfish reasons and not to compete and be a team player he should go anywhere else.

Kids make mistakes... I'm not sure this is worse than Kevin Grady falling asleep at the wheel with a BAC>0.2, and he stayed on the team.
