First of all, hopefully Speight is ok. Hate seeing one of the good guys get hurt, especially on a late hit. O'Korn was impressive today, making quick decisions and accurate throws on his way to leading this team to an important win before the bye week.
I still thought the first half play selection was questionable at best. The offset draw play which is a chunk play 75% of the time finally got called.. with only 15 seconds until halftime. Incredibly frustrating to finally get an HB screen, just for Higdon to fumble it away.
Isaac should be in on obvious passing downs as Higdon got worked on a couple key pass protections.
Finally, the inside pitch to Evans for the TD was a great play call and beautifully blocked.

Harbaugh says it's a soft-tissue injury for Speight, nothing structural
September 23rd, 2017 at 8:48 PM ^
but the first half playcalling was legit awful.

I'm not saying O'Korn shouldn't start even if Speight can play, but I also feel like the improvement in the offense came a lot from using the TEs. Unless we've just had TEs running wild and Speight hasn't been throwing to them and Brian hasn't noticed, then it seems like that was the big change in playcalling. They are still young so maybe it took a few games for them to come along.

first half, bad, second half adustments good
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:39 PM ^
Has a strong arm. It was fun to watch him get the ball downfield with ease.
September 23rd, 2017 at 7:42 PM ^
Looks like we've got a new starting QB. OKorn can sling it

I have been a supporter of the Old Guard for a long time--but the contrast in offensive efficacy was instantaneous and undeniable.
O'Korn felt pressure, avoided much of it, extended plays, found open receivers, and damn--he was on target. Looked splendid.
Time to keep it that way.

This reminds me a lot of the Smith / Kaep situation with Harbaugh at the 49ers. It will definitely be interesting to see how it plays out and what Coach Harbaugh does with regards to who starts.
I know who I think it will be and who I want it to be, but it will be interesting to watch all the same.

#8 > Sp8
The I told you so's are going to be insufferable this week and I'm not even mad.
September 23rd, 2017 at 7:49 PM ^
The "I told you so's" will be deserved, it would appear....
September 23rd, 2017 at 8:03 PM ^
Except your I-told-you-so thought O'Korn sucked and wanted Peters. O'korn is Tom Brady in 1999 and Peters is Drew Henson. You get no points
September 23rd, 2017 at 8:21 PM ^
this I told you so wanted someone other than Speight getting serious snaps.
September 23rd, 2017 at 9:32 PM ^
And also likely had no faith in O'korn either. It gets 0.5 credit

I will not believe that a proven coach like Harbaugh, especially one good with QB's, could see JOK vs. Speight for two years every day and come to the wrong conclusion about the two guys. No way that's possible. That means that SP8 in practice was indeed better than JOK. And that's why he started over him.
September 23rd, 2017 at 7:53 PM ^
B..b..b..but he played terrible v Indiana in swirling winds and a second half white out!!!!!1
September 23rd, 2017 at 7:43 PM ^
Runyan in on first 2 TD drives. He needs to start next game.
September 23rd, 2017 at 7:45 PM ^
For Onwenu or Ulizio? I wasn't paying attention.
September 23rd, 2017 at 7:47 PM ^
Definitely for Onwenu for 1 TD. Can't confirm the other.
September 23rd, 2017 at 7:50 PM ^
For Mike on both
September 23rd, 2017 at 7:52 PM ^
Rotated all day. Probably at least partly due to the heat.
September 24th, 2017 at 12:52 AM ^
Yup, this didn't seem like a performance yank like last week. Runyan got a couple series then big Mike went back in for the Evans TD drive.
I wonder if it's too late to try Runyan at RT. Ulizio seems like way more of a sore spot than Onwenu to my eyes (and UFR).

O’Korn really surprised me today. Guy had a heck of a game.
September 23rd, 2017 at 7:48 PM ^
Ah there you are. Mr. JH is on the hot seat guy.
September 23rd, 2017 at 8:07 PM ^
Go fuck yourself if you think we are where we should be in year 3 of Harbaugh. Celebrate the victory today, but that first half was embarrassing. Harbaugh makes the big bucks like Urban and Saban, and those guys just win. Those are the expectations here.
September 23rd, 2017 at 8:27 PM ^
Go fuck yourself if you think that losing as many people as this team did to the NFL wasn't going to mean an off year for the team.
Man up and take your beating. Harbaugh on the hot seat, forsooth.
September 24th, 2017 at 3:13 AM ^
Gadzooks, too.
September 23rd, 2017 at 10:05 PM ^
Urban has already lost this year.
September 24th, 2017 at 12:32 AM ^
... we are winning.
September 23rd, 2017 at 7:43 PM ^
John O'Korn is my daddy.
September 23rd, 2017 at 7:44 PM ^
But at this point he has lost his job and needs to take a seat. OKorn was throwing dimes out there all day and the offense looks totally different with him as QB. This could be a big turning point for this team this year.

O'Korn brought the offense to life. He better be our starter the rest of the year.

Gee, I wonder who should start at QB now.
September 23rd, 2017 at 7:46 PM ^
Peters. He had a 100% completion percentage.
September 23rd, 2017 at 7:52 PM ^
any 3 and outs either
September 23rd, 2017 at 7:58 PM ^
Mo ways to get a first down than any other Qb has this season.
September 23rd, 2017 at 7:44 PM ^
O'Korn looked really good today. We know that Speight can be very good at times based on how he played for much of last year, but maybe having a scrambler like O'Korn is what we need with the right side of the OL being what it is. I hope Speight is okay.
September 23rd, 2017 at 7:45 PM ^
That run though! I think he showed enough to be proclaimed the starter.
September 23rd, 2017 at 7:48 PM ^
He even hit the truck stick at the end.
September 23rd, 2017 at 7:46 PM ^
Fill up Okorn's helmet with stickers. We lose that game with Speight
September 23rd, 2017 at 7:45 PM ^
I was never a Speighter but O'Korn should absolutely start from now on.
Not impressed with O-line development.
And welcome to Tight End U.
September 23rd, 2017 at 7:45 PM ^
I'd like to hear some serious reasons why JOK shouldn't be the starter going forward, especially with a bye week to get more reps with the 1st team O.
September 23rd, 2017 at 7:47 PM ^
Because the merotocracy favors whatever Speight shows in practice
September 23rd, 2017 at 7:52 PM ^
...which apparently he struggles to show in games... Or doesn't matter in games?
September 23rd, 2017 at 10:00 PM ^
They haven't seemed to. Kind of the same thing with Isaac, for 2 seasons he makes plays but doesn't get snaps for long stretches.
September 23rd, 2017 at 8:35 PM ^
Ah, but the autocracy favors the whim of the powerful.
September 23rd, 2017 at 7:53 PM ^
Thats all i got.
September 23rd, 2017 at 7:57 PM ^
I might go with O'Korn because Sp8 seems shaken but I think we are over reacting to a horrible Purdue D. O'Korn is bad at feeling pressure and holds on to the ball too long. This might work okay against Purdue but I suspect Sp8 is in to limit interceptions (though he does love untimely pick 6s). Given the ineptness of the rest of our offnense, I am fine with O'Korn to shake things up but we should not get carried away.
O'Korns sacks are like Sp8s over throws. I would rather have the over throws.
