Crystal Balls coming in for 2022 DT Davonte Miles to Michigan

Miles is a 6'5" 275lb DT out of River Rouge. Ranked pretty low at the moment at #671 Nationally and #48 DT. However, with the state of how our DT recruiting has been going I'd rather secure a commitment of an in-state DT now (in addition to Alex VanSumeran) and shoot for higher rated recruits later on in the cycle.

It's going to be really awkward if Nua strikes out with DTs for two years, picks up several DTs for 2022, gets fired for striking out with DTs for two years, then we end up with zero DTs again.

We whiffed on Shepard.

But development tells me of the change in DC and philosophy. Brown would never go after a body type like this.

Will be interesting to see where he's ranked after next season -- scouting for 2022 and 2023 players especially is super-out-of-date, given how the high school season has gone. I would actually trust staff evaluations of local kids more than usual.

Agreed, and I am wondering if in large part, the severely abbreviated 2020 season kept him off the radar a little bit. Looking at his offer list, I wouldn't say his recruitment has blown up by any means, or even that his class ranking hasn't caught up to his offer sheet. However, both Cincinnati and Buffalo have offered. Those are programs that both excel within their leagues because they are good at identifying talent early and landing kids that continue to fly under the radar.

Michigan is his only P5 offer, but having both those mid-major offers might indicate this kid is underrated and under-scouted. He is definitely has the type of recruiting profile I am totally fine taking a flier on.

Don't care about his rankings, just bring in plausibly sized guys that can play the position and have some D-I interest. Defensive tackles are a lot like offensive linemen.

Many times you don't know what you have until at least 3 years on campus and in the weight room and nutrition program with the exception of a few elite prospects.

Let's bring him aboard and see what he can do!

Keeanu Benton, Wisconsin's NT, was #1238.  He's starting as a true sophomore and seems to be doing just fine.  Antonio Shelton, PSU's NT was #1417 and is having a good year.  And, Robert Windsor, who was PSU's DT last year and is now in the NFL was #1014.
