I mean, they'll still try, but it will be more difficult.
September 9th, 2023 at 10:52 PM ^
Bama will lose a few more unless the QB play increases dramatically.
September 9th, 2023 at 10:53 PM ^
Good!
September 9th, 2023 at 10:54 PM ^
Michigan is better than both of ‘em.
September 10th, 2023 at 12:05 AM ^
I wonder how our strength, speed, and play calling would match up against them
September 10th, 2023 at 12:41 AM ^
I still say we would have played Georgia straight up in a blockbuster championship game had we not barfed up the first half against TCU. I'm not concerned with the speed and strength comparisons. You really think Bama's OL can hold up to Michigan's DL? Or vice versa? Not this year it can't...

A major component of Saban's coaching prowess has been his ability to replace the stream of assistants that get poached from his program. He continues to get the physically talented players-it appears as though he has finally missed on replacing some assistants. And for the thousandth time I will note that coaching is just as critical to a team's success as the players. Look what is happening to Dabo at Clemson.
Elite players with poor coaching become average players. And conversely, average players with elite coaching become very good to elite players. The major credit Jim Harbaugh deserves for the ascension of Michigan football revolves around this elite staff of assistants he has assembled. The next several years are going to be most interesting, for Michigan/Harbaugh, if/when these assistants begin getting poached. The (very) good news is that Jim, in his uniquely quirky, genius way, is likely lining up a strategy for a transition.

Aw shucks; hate to see Coach Saban take a beating at home. Damn.
September 9th, 2023 at 11:53 PM ^
It really is a damn shame. Who does Bama play before the Auburn game this year?
September 10th, 2023 at 8:45 AM ^
Chattanooga.
September 9th, 2023 at 11:02 PM ^
When Bama loses, college football wins.
September 9th, 2023 at 11:05 PM ^
Nick Saban forget to pay his monthly installment to Baalzebub. He’ll pay tomorrow and Bama will go 11-1
September 9th, 2023 at 11:11 PM ^
Roll over, Tide
September 9th, 2023 at 11:12 PM ^
Great win for the artist temporarily known as the Big 12
September 9th, 2023 at 11:20 PM ^
Texas looked solid but Milroe is just clearly not the Bama QBs of previous years. Feels like the top teams in CFB are generally having a down year across the board
September 10th, 2023 at 12:00 AM ^
The top teams of the past decade, yes, except that Georgia hasn't had a chance to show any weaknesses yet.
But some old powers certainly look good: Michigan, obviously, but also Texas looks impressive and particularly Florida State.
September 9th, 2023 at 11:20 PM ^
If Bama has another - by their standards - underwhelming year, I wonder if Saban will consider retirement. He's in his 70s now and the whole thing has got to be taxing, especially once there's some negativity in the mix.
September 9th, 2023 at 11:44 PM ^
Hard to imagine but the SEC is only getting harder, too. Although the playoff will be an easier reach, so maybe that balances out
September 9th, 2023 at 11:21 PM ^
“College football is not fair anymore”
“NIL is ruining college football” says Saban
September 9th, 2023 at 11:27 PM ^
Too hard to win at Bama now that paying players is legal for all schools.
September 9th, 2023 at 11:53 PM ^
I’d like to believe that. Bama always had crazy talent (see Brady in the orange bowl) but didn’t always have it line up with good coaching. I think Saban is a good to great coach, but I wonder how good he’d be without that talent advantage. Similar thoughts on Dabo.
September 10th, 2023 at 1:55 AM ^
Dabo was bringing in classes ranked in the range of 10-25 before winning a national title. They really haven't been a recruiting juggernaut until the past few seasons.
September 9th, 2023 at 11:23 PM ^
Game graphic: Bama’s first regular season non-conference loss at home since 2007.
Commentary during Auburn game: first time in Saban’s entire college coaching career that he lost at home by double digits. That’s insane.
September 9th, 2023 at 11:41 PM ^
first time in Saban’s entire college coaching career that he lost at home by double digits.
Saban had several double-digit home losses at MSU, including the game when Woodson had the one-handed INT (23-7, 1997). Maybe they were referring to his Bama tenure.
September 9th, 2023 at 11:23 PM ^
Watched the game and I would take JJ over Ewers any day. His accuracy(ewers) is nowhere near JJ’s. Lots of overthrown passes. Never seemed to get in a rhythm. Hot take but I think JJ will move up to #1 overall if his accuracy continues.
September 9th, 2023 at 11:35 PM ^
JJ is as good of a passer than Ewers, if not better. JJ has a stronger arm than Ewers. JJ is more accurate (so far this season but I think this will be the case at the end too). And JJ is a running threat...Ewers not so much.
JJ is top 3 QB in college football with Caleb Williams and Drake Maye. The talking heads aren't really talking much about JJ yet, but they will be.
September 10th, 2023 at 12:07 AM ^
Ewers threw some beautiful fades in hella tight windows. Ton of drops by Worthy etx
September 10th, 2023 at 1:27 AM ^
Love what JJ is doing, but the level of competition has to count for something. Ewers was facing talent that UNLV doesn't even dream about having.
September 10th, 2023 at 7:55 AM ^
JJ has plenty of time to prove he’s a better QB, but level of competition has to be taken into account, and right now Ewers does have a leg up in that area.
September 9th, 2023 at 11:28 PM ^
Great game by Texas.
but Saban will still lobby that Alabama should move up in the polls.
September 9th, 2023 at 11:30 PM ^
Well, they lost to a (future) SEC team. Nobody has a better loss right now. Only right to move Bama into the top two after that.
September 9th, 2023 at 11:36 PM ^
Every SEC conference win is great
Every SEC conference loss is great
One more Bama loss and ESPN will give Saban an hour special to talk about how he needs to be in the playoff
September 9th, 2023 at 11:32 PM ^
Alabama qb was sacked 5 times and picked twice, Texas qb never was.
September 9th, 2023 at 11:46 PM ^
Some of the few actually impactful things to root for on behalf of Michigan include the SEC being a 1 bid conference. Georgia can run the table, just leave everyone else with 2 Ls!
September 10th, 2023 at 7:42 AM ^
How about a zero-bid conference? Could happen if Georgia loses and the Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12, and ACC winners all go undefeated.
September 10th, 2023 at 11:33 AM ^
I don’t see it….the committee already seems to guarantee an SEC spot every year regardless. Every SEC team would have to have 2 losses and every other conference with an undefeated team for this to be even a possibility, and even then, I can hear ESPN talking heads and SEC idiots on twitter saying that an SEC champ deserves to be in.
To them, you don’t win a National championship unless you are:
A. An SEC team
B.You beat an SEC team in the championship game or semis, (and even then they will just say “the SEC was down” or “so and so was injured”.
In the unlikely scenario an SEC team didn’t make the playoff, many in media and social media would be claiming the SEC champ the true national champion.
For this madness of SEC bias to end, there needs to be consecutive years where non-SEC teams beat SEC teams in the national championship game or knock them out in semi final games.
However, after 2 weeks, this is the most parody amongst the top 10-15 programs Ive seen in college football since 2007.
September 10th, 2023 at 1:11 AM ^
I would love to see a Michigan, USC, Texas, and Florida State CFP this year. Tired of the same old hats getting in year after year. This was a big step toward that.
September 10th, 2023 at 2:06 AM ^
duh nuh nuh nuh nuh Hey Bama
duh nuh nuh nuh nuh Hey Bama
duh nuh nuh nuh nuh Hey Bama
They just beat the hell out of you
Rammer jammer yellow hammer
Go to hell, Alabama!
September 10th, 2023 at 2:25 AM ^
We may have to start a Freshman QB or get a Joe Borrow type QB through the portal next year when we play Texas. Unless JJ decides to stay for his final year
September 10th, 2023 at 7:54 AM ^
Welp, Michigan's coaches were completely on the money in their evaluation of Ethan Burke. He looks like he's on a similar trajectory as Hutchinson. Too bad he grew up in Austin and Texas woke up in time to offer him.
September 10th, 2023 at 9:41 AM ^
Interesting that Bama slipping coincides with everyone else getting to pay players. Wonder if that is why Saban complains the loudest 🤔
September 10th, 2023 at 9:45 AM ^
When this is all said and done, we could possibly have a situation where the three best NFL QBs OSU ever had all left Columbus to find success elsewhere.
September 10th, 2023 at 9:52 AM ^
I think we’ll meet TX in the playoffs
September 10th, 2023 at 9:53 AM ^
The Tide comes in and the Tide goes out. High Tide and now Low Tide.
It's not good to be an Alabama fan this season.
September 10th, 2023 at 10:19 AM ^
Has Saban gone on ESPN yet complaining about why 'Bama should be in the CFP? Too soon...?
September 10th, 2023 at 11:01 AM ^
Michigan moving up in the polls! Wait, they are already #2
September 10th, 2023 at 11:45 AM ^
Let the focus be on Texas, FSU and Colorado until November. This is when the season counts
September 10th, 2023 at 12:50 PM ^
If I'm not mistaken, so far the vaunted Ess Eee Cee is 3-6 vs. P5 teams this year.
Their only wins are against UVA, Arizona and Cal - hardly murderers row.
September 10th, 2023 at 1:16 PM ^
On Reddit an Alabama fan said it’s time to move on from Saban due to his mediocrity. Absolutely hilarious take following 15 straight 10+ win seasons, many SEC titles, and what, 6 national championships?
Part of me hopes they do, and they start going 6-6 to 9-3 for a while. The delusion was shocking.
