Especially deserved it after that terrible pass interference call to give ND a first down. Amazing. Should we be happy that we held a NW team that beat Wisco and ND to 9 points, or sad that we couldn't even score on an ND defense that just gave up 43 to NW? The world makes no sense.

but Notre Dame was coming off a loss that ended their playoff chances and were coming home to play a bad team.  Meanwhile, Northwestern had an outside shot to go bowling, and their coach had made a gutsy call to go for a win last week instead of OT.  Take the 17 in that situation.

They have yet to show they are anything above average without Golson under BK. He played well most of the time and nd had a TON of luck, crazy calls, no calls, home cooking, etc for them to make it to the NCG to get thumped by Bama in '12. They revert to average without Golson as he gets a physical & mental RS year in '13. They get him back and are generally solid again with Golson in '14. Golson has made nd good under BK (though Jaylon Smith is by far their best player) more than BK, IMO.

Not sure Golson is really that great of a difference-maker.  If you recall, he was pulled in several games in 2012 (including the game against us) in favor of Tommy Rees.  Without Rees available to step in, they probably would have gone 8-4/9-3, a typical Kelly season.

This year, Golson started out hot in September, but has been very average since then.  He's been a real turnover machine in recent weeks.

that's what I alluded to when saying "most of the time". When good he was good but it took a bit. By the Stanford game (IIRC) he was the absolute starter. BTW, a game that had just one instance of the insane luck and calls go their way that season. Stanford's QB was new, unproven and there was a bit of a debate over the starter. It took that game to solidify his spot and become a pretty good Andrew Luck replacement. Then, the Stanford HB is laying on nd players as he crosses the goal line on an admittedly choose but obvious TD call that was ruled a non-td. I won't even mention the never spoken of GW Pitt FG in OT that was missed......when nd had two players wearing #2 on the FG block team right in front of TWO refs lol. No call. Would have turned a 28 yarder into (at least) a 23 yarder. Worst NCG team in my lifetime, no hate or anything but honest & objective view of them. I mean, they beat a sub par Michigan team by less points than Michigan had turnovers haha. I digress.....

I guess our defense is actually pretty good. Minnesota's good and Northwestern just scored 43. The only wtf game is Rutgers.

The bet on Mike and Mike involved Mike Golic having to be covered in oil if NW beat ND.  I am not sure I want to see that!  In fact, I am pretty sure I don't!!!

So nice to see them fumble after the BS interference call that had pretty much wrapped it up. Feel good for Fitz to get that win and since it comes at the expense of BK and Irish all the better!
