I wonder who this "Case McCoy" kid is. With two males in the family named "Colt" and "Case," I shudder to think what they may have named a girl.

The level of homerism down here is disgusting. The level of disregard for the upper midwest is also disgusting. Overall, I really like Austin, it's a fabulous city, but the major topic on sports radio usually goes something like this: "Isn't Texas awesome?!" "Yes, I love Texas." "But, you've never left the state except when you were a reserve fullback for the Longhorns." "Yep, lifetime Longhorn." Or: "Colt McCoy is so awesome, and I have a feeling that he should have won three Heismans." "Yeah, but Jordan Shipley should be the first pick in the draft." There's no Mike Valenti down here to balance any of it out. I can't believe I just said that.

I'd rather be a Michigan Man with the 37th ranked recruiting class than anyone else with 5-stars coming out my ass.... 'Cause it's great to be a Michigan Wolverine. (With that said, however, Texas fans are some lucky bastards today...)

Texas has a phenomenal class and 22 of the 24 recruits are from Texas! The other two are Oklahoma and Ohio. In Texas they get whoever they want. And Texas competes with THREE other BCS conference teams (A&M, Tech and Baylor) plus such schools as TCU and Houston. Now that is what I call dominance.

22 out of 24 of his commits are from Texas. Purely from a recruiting standpoint, leaving aside won-lost record, the recruiting hurdles faced by any UM head coach dwarf those faced by the coaches of Texas, USC, Florida/FSU, Ohio State, and PSU, who can all do very well by concentrating on the talent just within their own state borders. That's why the most encouraging thing to me about the 2009-2010 classes is our collection of kids from the state of Ohio.

You're right that they recruit in states with great talent. However, to the extent that the state of Michigan does have talent, UM has never been particularly good at locking it down. For example: 5* Joe Barksdale 5* Ronald Johnson 5* Willie Gholston 4* Nick Perry 4* Mark Ingram 4* Taurian Washington Then there are guys like Dior Mathis and a number of 4*s who went to MSU. My point is simply that we could probably make things a lot easier on ourselves if we could lock down our own state. I think we do recruit out of state pretty well, but as others have noted, out of state recruiting can be pretty tough. I think it would be nice if all the in state kids were UM locks - just like the schools you cited (Texas, USC, Florida, OSU etc). Then, any out of state success we have would be icing on the cake.

I don't think Texas was outschemed at all. May have had something to do with 2-time Heisman finalist being injured in the first series and Texas forced to play a true freshman for the first time in the biggest stage possible.

I do think most recruiting services overrate talent in the south and Texas for a variety of reasons, from the extra practice time due to the weather, the culture, and probably a fair bit of bias. That said, Texas always brings in top classes, and Mack Brown is a better coach than people thing. Unfortunately, they have had a run of bad luck (2 years ago with the logjam for the MNC spot, this year with Colt being injured).

punch. I have exactly the same sentiment. I can understand why some kids would want to play football in Texas. I lived there for a while, and nowhere is football, at all levels, held in the same regard as it is in Texas. But no school in the country can compete with Michigan as leader and best.
