I thought last year's OL class was terrific. These two classes together are just TREMENDOUS. And, I don't think 6-4 is too tall for center. Clay Shiver was 6-4 and was certainly a great player.

What exactly is a "baker's fuck" anyway?
Sparty better get used to it. They were the beneficiaries and unorthodox recruiting practices at Akron State and in Ann Arbor for a couple of years. Not so much anymore.

This is our 13th recruit. Baker's dozen?

February 25th, 2012 at 10:50 AM ^
Coach Hoke and his staff are on fire!
This is exactly why I have become addicted to mgoblog. Just yesterday I was here reading about how Kugler really enjoyed his visit, and I was hopeful for a possible commit in a few months. I woke up this morning and immediately checked this site (like a junkie who needs his fix), only to find out Kugler cancelled his visit to MSU and decided to go Blue! Awesome! What a way to start a Saturday!
February 25th, 2012 at 10:56 AM ^
ACE WAKE UP! YOU HAVE WORK TO DO!!

Coach Funk just poured himself a glass of a fine single malt scotch. I know it's only 11:00, doesn't matter.
February 25th, 2012 at 11:02 AM ^
Maybe that's the secret to this success.
I think Coach Funk must be some kind of alien from another football dimension or something ... out of nowhere this guy has offensive linemen drooling to come here.
I'd have his baby. I would.
February 25th, 2012 at 11:09 AM ^
we may be able to make that happen. We can build him, better, faster, stronger.
February 25th, 2012 at 11:19 AM ^
had a hand in this too. He and Sean Kugler probably knew each other well from being in the same division. If Kugler liked Mattison and Mattison talked up Michigan, Brady and Funk, then the rest writes itself.
February 25th, 2012 at 11:39 AM ^
that he is tight with Erin Andrews too!
February 25th, 2012 at 10:56 AM ^
Kugler committed during the BTN replay of the Michigan/Ohio basketball game from last week.
Coincidence? Or does the magic of Best Weekend Ever work on tape delay as well?
February 25th, 2012 at 11:41 AM ^
But without all the scary. Unless you're Ohio or MSU, then it's probably really scary.
Someone get that tape to Isaac!
February 25th, 2012 at 10:59 AM ^
Well he didn't have a "non committable" offer from Ohio, must not be very good! I'm hoping you detect the sarcasm
February 25th, 2012 at 11:01 AM ^
Beyond the obvious river of talent generally, they're bringing in tough, ornery big men up front and not just athletes. In the deluge of Hello posts from "The Weekend," there were quite a few times I saw linemen with adjectives like "nasty," "mean-streak," "high-motor," etc. Kugler and Kalis seem to be cut from the same cloth from the sounds of it. Yeah, I'll have another of those, please.
You could line up Fred Jackson behind this line and he'd look like Bo Jackson, except healthier.
February 25th, 2012 at 11:02 AM ^
I'm really at a loss for words right now on the way Hoke has tackled recruiting. He could probably stop for the next 11 months and Michigan would still have a top-20, maybe top-15 class.
Shane's going to have all the time in the world to look downfield for his receivers, and Ty Isaac might want to take a little bit of a closer look at Michigan now, considering he could be receiving running lanes from one of the greatest o-lines in recent memory.
February 25th, 2012 at 11:02 AM ^
Hey Ace,1 down and only 7 more commits to go this weekend. Better get some ice for those hands!
February 25th, 2012 at 11:03 AM ^
Good pickup for Michigan. This class is shaping up to be one to remember.
February 25th, 2012 at 11:17 AM ^
how many is that in the class now ?
February 25th, 2012 at 11:21 AM ^
February 25th, 2012 at 12:05 PM ^
Not sure this is good for the run game. The line is going to be opening so many large holes, the ballcarriers may become hesitant as they have to choose which one to take. The size of the gaps in the DL may make them suspect a trap and pull up.
Furthermore, this could damage the passing game. You know how when you play touch and there's no one rushing the quarterback, and he just kinda stands there taking his time while everyone else is running around getting exhausted, waiting for him to make up his damn mind and just throw it already? It seems obvious no one is going to be able to generate pressure on our pocket, and our receivers are going to get tired, especially if Shane sees Kate Upton in the crowd while he's standing back there, and he goes
"Holy crap, that's Kate Upton, are you dudes checking this out?"
...and Kugler or Bosch or Fox or LTT is gonna be all like "Dude, we're in the middle of a play, please don't get distracted just because you have all day, and... holy crap, you're right, hey check that out, that's Kate Upton doing the Dougie in Section 26, Row 15."
Thus endeth my concerns.
February 25th, 2012 at 11:27 AM ^
After enjoying some schadenfreude over at the RCMB, it looks like Dantonio decided not to attend MSU's junior day today. Several prospects cancelled their visit and the biggest slap in the face has to be Kugler's commitment to Michigan.
Saint Dantonio must be doing his thing on a national recruiting search.

"spartans17863 posts
Wow. This is unbelievable I try to refrain from posting in such threads, but this is looking bad. It's like USC recruiting against Little Sisters of the Poor. Hoke is absolutely having his way with us right now. Even when Lloyd was here and we had JLS, we at least got these kids to give us a look. What Hoke is doing to Dantonio on the recruiting trail is absolute murder."
Hahaha

It's getting harder these days, it seems. Trying to get "past the line" will not mean what it once did.
.
Here, the O-Line carves out a decent running lane...

February 25th, 2012 at 11:36 AM ^
...Schembechler Hall is even a tad bit concernced about the magical recruiting powers of Urban Meyer. Now Mark Dantonio - he may be a different story. Gotta watch out for that guy.
February 25th, 2012 at 11:38 AM ^
at this rate 2014 kids better start jumping on board before their class fills up too.
February 25th, 2012 at 11:40 AM ^
Our '12 and '13 OL class has (according to Rivals) one 5*, eight 4*'s, and one 3*. It will be hard for anyone (even Wisconsin) to top that. The smallest guy in the group is 6' 5" / 275 in high school.
If you believe football is won and lost in the trenches we are going to be in great shape.
February 25th, 2012 at 11:45 AM ^
6'4" is a good size for a center. Anywhere between 6-3 - 6-5 is pretty good, but it's more about the build. I'm fairly certain Kugler is being brought in as a center, so this is a huge get for Michigan
February 25th, 2012 at 11:47 AM ^
Is he or one of our other commits gonna switch to center? Or are we taking a center as well? Honestly at this point, I wouldn't be surprised if we just took 18 offensive linemen in the rest of the class and just ran the flying wedge for a guaranteed 4 yards a carry. We'd win T.O.P battles 48-12.
ha! Just saw Space Coyote's post above. In that case, does this mean we're out of the running for Pocic, or is he still on our radar as well since all your offensive linemen are belong to us?
February 25th, 2012 at 11:49 AM ^
sam webb just said that kugler can/will play center
February 25th, 2012 at 12:08 PM ^
But shall he?
