Has anybody heard a rumor about Nuss going to UF, announcement tomorrow?

Submitted by white_pony_rocks on

I had a friend who lives outside of gainesville and who keeps his ears open for UF football news tell me that he heard nuss was going to be introduced as the new OC tomorrow.  Has anybody heard about this?

Let me tell you guys how this works out here - it could come in handy if Jim ends up at Michigan: JH is the "Quarterback Whisperer" who resurrected Alex Smith, and was grooming Kap into the most dynamic weapon the NFL has ever seen until injuries derailed the team this year.

Roman OTOH is a small-minded, uninspiring apparatchik, tasked by the front office to clip Kap's wings and make Harbaugh look more "Fallible" for lack of a better word.

You want to see a case of a team failing (miserably) to meet it's goals while visibly regressing in execution and effort - yet NO ONE in the public blames the head coach, criticizes the head coach, or calls for his firing?!

Quite the opposite in fact. When I told people in October, while the 49ers still looked like a good bet to make the playoffs,  Jim was gonna leave for Michigan I was accused of buying into an effort by media to create a rift between Harbaugh and Baalke/York, just to have something to write about. "Falling for that hype" is how I believe a few 49er faithful described me.

My best friend, a SF native, told me as recently as last week that IF Harbaugh were to really leave the 49ers, which he still doubted, it would be for the Raiders. Not Michigan - "No Way, No How, Not Michigan" he texted me... Former 49er and Raider Bill Romanowski, who's on the radio out here, said, again LAST WEEK: "I still cannot believe the 49ers are gonna let a little healthy male ego Alpha-clashing ruin what they've got going, but IF Harbaugh leaves... He AIN'T goin back to college. No Way"... 6 years at $49 million made a lot of believers!!!! Also killed the "trade" market for JH in the NFL.

Brilliant! Hackett is the Man!!!

And - full disclosure for those that like it - some of the Harbaugh/Roman comparisons are a little /s

The ones that think Nuss blows are stupid. He had one year with an already down offense.... Did he not do well at the other places he was at?

Nussmeier was trying to fit a round peg in a square whole. He had a QB who literally was running for his life last year, an O-line that changed blocking schemes on a weekly basis last year, and a group of receivers who frequently dropped easy catches. His offense was one reason the O-line showed steady improvements. Gardner was doing all he could, but he was still under siege in most games. And the receivers weren't helping him out.

I feel bad for Nuss but at this point I would take whatever job gets offered. He knows he will not be trained no matter who the next HC is

Funk was the common denominator in all the years the line has struggled.  How he escaped being fired before our OC last year I'll never understand.  Devin never was a QB will skill sets for Nuss's offense.  I think our other QB's are more of a match to his type of play calling.

Realistically we'll be retaining an assistant or two, Nussmeier has a great resume and will likely be a head coach soon, and it's great to see guys on staff finding a big promotion like that (also down the road maybe he proves himself and would be interested in coming back once Harbaugh retires, fingers crossed).

OTOH I watched the offense and the QB's last year just like everybody else and won't be up in arms if the new coach wants someone else.

Gardner graduated in 3 years and got a masters degree. Clearly not stupid. He had 3 different offensive coordinators and 2 different head coaches. Hoke hasn't exactly had a track record with qb's. Gardner had some really good games here. We all expected more from him but he gave his all for Michigan.

If this is the real Jack Harbaugh then I take it back and whatever you say is right.

That sounds good to me. He was terrible this year and we play Florida in the future. I really do not get why anyone would talk about retaining him? In this league you have to run the ball and he clearly couldn't do that, then when he found a guy that could break some runs he went away from him.

and his name is  being thrown around for the Georgia OC job now that Mike Bobo has left for CSU.  Georgia has a very good offensive line coming back along with a stable of RB's.  It will be interesting to see what happens.

I think he's gone, but I wouldn't mind seeing him stick around. I think with a better QB situation, an improving O line and opening up the playbook a little more, he'd do just fine here. As others have stated, his track record has nothing to indicate that he is a poor coach.
