this week in unintentionally grim-sounding recruiting headlines

- I live about 6 miles from work and it took me close to 7 hours to get home. I fiinally had to park my car in a subdivision about a mile from my house and walk the remaining route last night.
- Media is saying that when the snow started around noon or so, the temp was right around freezing and quickly dropped which caused everything to ice over.
- In addition, all of the schools announced mid-day that they were closing early...which means parents have to leave early to get the kids...and it snowballed from there. I saw one headline that said "this is what happens when 5.5 million people all get released and hit the streets in about 90 minutes."
- Once that happened, the salt trucks were rendered useless because they couldn't get around.
- Per the commenter above, Atlanta is very hilly. I found out last night that the cause of the delay on my route was a Coke truck that couldn't make it up the hill started sliding backwards and then jack-knifed.

his QB coach and OC at Georgia. With Bobo now the HC at Colorado State, there is talk he may follow him there or go to a JC for 1 year and try to transfere elsewhere.
|25 weeks 4 days ago||Exactly - we had a number of kids from Louisiana||
and other places where the local programs were down. If you remember - LSU, Texas, and Oklahoma were all going through down periods and our recruiting benefitted from that. Anthony Thomas, Russell Shaw, Jeremy Tuman, James Hall, Marcus Knight,Tommy Hendricks, etc. all came from "the south". Sure, we had our share of midwestern kids, but the roster was supplemented with studs from around the country.

I thought the very same thing when I saw the flag.

Been to Westwood, it is a pretty amazing place - especially in late January for a kid from the Northeast. But in Harbaugh we trust!

and his name is being thrown around for the Georgia OC job now that Mike Bobo has left for CSU. Georgia has a very good offensive line coming back along with a stable of RB's. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Which is one of the most exclusive areas here in the state. It is a lake/resort/golf community in the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains in N. Georgia.

he was wide open and it would have been a touchdown.

I was unable to see, but was poor jam technique also the problem on the long TD pass? The reason I ask is the only thing viewable on the TV was Countess about 3-4 yards trailing behind the receiver. If he did have poor technique and got off balance like the gif in the post above, it would explain why he got burned so bad - just curious.

Does anyone know if Peppers is coached that way to have his back to the ball? Maybe it's the camera angle, but he looks to have pretty good position on the route. It also appears that if he turned around, he might have a good chance to use his athleticism and possibly intercept it.
I have noticed the last number of years that we have had DBs in position to make a play on the ball but their backs are turned. Does anyone who is a coach/more knowledgeable on DB play have any insight to this?

but his running style reminds me of Tony Boles -- upright runner with long strides and deceptively fast....but bigger.

I am just curious. I wonder how much of it was Funk's coaching and how much of it was Borges' predictable play calling? I mean, no matter how technically sound (or unsound) our offensive linemen are, no "technique" is going to be able to overcome a defense that practically knew what play we were going to run based upon our formation. Again, I am no expert and would love to hear more informed opinions on the subject.
|1 year 29 weeks ago||This is an interesting point....||
Michigan had a number of kids from LA, TX & Big 12 country in the early to mid-nineties because LSU (Hallman & DiNardo years), OK (Gibbs, Schnellenberger, Blake years), & TX(McWilliams, Makovic years) were all having down periods AT THE SAME TIME. There was roughly a 12 year period ('87 - '99) where all 3 schools were floundering simultaneously. That all changed when LSU hired Saban (2000), OK hired Stoops (1999) and TX hired Brown (1998). I would bet that many of those kids would have stayed south if OK, TX, & LSU were performing better on the field.

because I have no expertise on offensive line play. What were some of the comments? The reason I ask is I am absolutely stunned (like all of us) at how bad this line is? Is it OL coaching? Talent? Offensive scheme? Lack of the depth and the 2 years RR recruited a total of 1 OL player coming back to haunt us? What is more perplexing is that the line wasn't this crappy the last 2 years. Is it the fact that we have no semblance of a coherent offensive game plan that hurts the OL performance?
edit -- Sorry, I see you posted it while I was typing

|1 year 40 weeks ago||So I have a question about this......||
Borges prefers the West Coast type of offense. He's even written a book about it. Isn't the pass supposed to be used to open up the run? The stubbornness is mind-boggling. Is there a possibility that Hoke has dictated to Al what he wants to run even though Borges may want to do something different? I know this might sound far fetched, but I am still trying to comprehend our futility on offense and the obstinate refusal to try anything different. Just a thought.

he buries the LB charging up the field. Should Fitz have bumped it a little more to the outside? It almost looks like he cut it back into traffic. He may have had more room by cutting it outside after he got past the other LB that came up to fill.

The kid played tailback the beginning of his high school career. I am not saying he is made of Dilithium, but he does have enough speed and escapability to make defensive lines pay if they pin their ears back and don't stay in their lanes. That is a huge difference when comparing him to Mallet.
