but does that really work in this situation? He's locked in a contract with the Raiders. He really has no bargaining rights unless they fire him.

By any chance last time we did this were there threads like this? Curious how close Vegas got on Hoke.

I guess my point was more along the lines of why don't schools write realistic contracts. For example, by year 5 you have an average of xx number of wins per season etc. Outlining expectations gives you the power to succeed or replace what isn't succeeding. At the level that we are paying, the fans have a certain level of expectation. UM paid over 500k for each of the wins it got during Hoke's tenure. Nebraska paid around 350k. Florida, almost 700k. You would think with schools running into the problem of coaches not bringing results that the contracts will outline goals and timelines and if those aren't met, you don't get paid anymore.
This reminds moe of the road crews in Michigan. Sign huge contracts to do the roads with no warranty or responsibility held to the ones doing the work. Then we wonder why our roads look like war zones each year while the companies show up and say "I can fix that for you, just sign here".

Because it's sports and ESPN happens to be the biggest name in the business. I get quite a bit out of my insider subscription. You may not want to pay $4 for it, but some may.

This, and this is the problem I have when people say "Well Urban showed up and look what OSU did". Yes, he showed up and went on a tear, but it's not exactly the same situation. OSu wasn't sitting in the depths of despair for 7 years prior to his arrival. There was one strange season when they went from one great coach to an interim coach to a great coach. Not the same at all. Player development had been handled properly for the 12 years prior or however long Tressel was there. They had a QB who could start out the gate at a ready level.

So you admire that Hoke has oversigned, but not someone who grayshirts?

I know this isn't a popular viewpoint, but how is this any different than a kid who decommits? As far as I know, no LOI was signed. I'm not saying it's the nicest thing in the world to do, but it's far from being an end to the kids plans. He's not being told he can't go to school there. just to wait a semester to enroll. Yea, it's probably not what the kid wants to do, but it's not the end of the world. HIs scholarship isn't being pulled, delayed. He can still attend class if he wants for that first semester and pay for it. And while we're being high and mighty, let's talk about the fact that Michigan as recently as last year was guilty of oversigning.
It stings to read these articles, but being realistic we realize this isn't the end of the world and if we want to be competitive gray shirting is a heck of a lot less painful on the student than oversigning.

I wouldn't be so dogmatic about this. Look what Florida did to Georgia? Not because Mush is a great coach, but because it was a rivalry game. Let's be honest, that's far from a neutral site game. While I think it's improbable we win, I wouldn't say it's out of the question.

11 warriors has put up a write up on it (Even complimented Brian and Ace). i won't link it here, but doing a google search of Dave Brandon should bring it up rather easily (as well as other media coverage)

I don't know what line of work you're in, so I don't know your frame of referrence. Let me explain a couple things.
1. That email was respectful. It wasn't a direct attack or a name calling bananza. It wasn't filled with curse words, threats of legal action, or even referrences to DB's lineage. To be honest, when it comes to what is obviously an emotional email, it's tame to the point of boring. In my line of work, this is just a frustrated customer who needs some special attention to dig to the root of the problem and to address.
All that being said, if his aunt had come at him calling him an asshole and other such names, does it excuse the way he responded? Does it matter in the end? Sure it may make an unpolished person feel better, but you're talking what is essentially a 'c' or 'e' level employee in an organization. The buck just about stops with them and their response to an upset customer is beyond acceptable. He should know better.
