Gundy Rep. Reached out to Florida AD Pre-Bedlam

I found this to be an amusing stop on this year's wild coaching carousel ride.

Pretty 101 level stuff here, don't reach out via email to a state employee that can be FOIA'd. If true, and I don't know why it wouldnt be, this seems like it could be pretty embarrassing for ole Mikey Haircut.

Also, the pitch letter looks great. I'd like Devin Bonik to write all my 8th grade book reports if he has any free time.

It’s odd to me that Gundy never comes up as a name during searches. Oklahoma State is not an easy place to win, yet he’s done it consistently.

Why would he want to leave now with his 2 biggest road blocks the past 10 years leaving? He is in the catbird seat of the Big 12. Assuming they maintain P5 status/get an autobid in expansion, he just has to fend off the likes of Iowa state, Cincinnati, and Baylor. While certainly difficult in its own right, I’d think that more feasible than getting through Georgia, Alabama, LSU, A&M, Oklahoma and Texas, and the rest of the SEC.

Also, is this legit? That email is pretty “it’s my first day as an agent”

I spent a little time reading the agent's website (which is here: http://boniksports.com/devin-bonik), and based on the writing style the email to UF is definitely from him.

But does he actually represent Mike Gundy? Did Gundy actually tell him to reach out to UF on his behalf? I'm pretty skeptical of that. Feels a lot like a guy taking a shot in the dark to try and create a transaction so he can be in the middle of it.

Good point.  In the late 90s a friend of mine sent a semi-bogus resume of mine to the Steelers suggesting they hire me as Offensive Coordinator.  His rationale was that if I was able to understand the Byzantine billing we did, I could certainly draw up offensive plays that would put Chan Gailey to shame, despite the fact I had no coaching experience whatsoever.

He told me about this a month after he did it, showed me the letter and my 'resume' and was sad the Steelers never replied.

Every current member school of the Big 12 would jump at the chance to join a different power conference. Why should their coaches be any different?

I don't doubt the schools are sending out overtures like Gundy's agent, but they are smart enough not to let them go public. There is probably nothing they fear more than some of their fellow members latching on somewhere else while they get left behind.

Any successful P5 coach in the country should try to get "Tuck Comin'" money. I mean, he is getting paid like a top 5 coach nationally and can't even finish higher than third in his division and 4th in the B1G. He is 17-14 as P5 head coach, MSU set a dangerous precedent with that contract.

This is a bad look for Gundy. Can't imagine what his current employer (his Alma Mater no less), players and recruits think when they see this in the news. Gundy's got some splain'in to do.

He has gotten a reputation in the past that he wouldn’t ever cut his mullet, however I can assure you that for the rite price he will do a crew cut, bowl cut, duck tail, or high fade
