Silver lining is now we can cancel our cable subscriptions since we won't need ESPN/BTN/etc
August 10th, 2020 at 7:40 PM ^
If this had happened out of the blue I'd be pretty devastated, but I've seen football as an iffy proposition since March really. I remember people saying it'd be impossible because they'd lose too much money. Dude! They just cancelled the NCAA Tournament!

Okay but I'm still gonna stress drink and smoke every Saturday.
August 10th, 2020 at 12:10 PM ^
Well, at least we can't get fisted by Ohio State this season.
August 10th, 2020 at 12:13 PM ^
This is the silver lining we all need in these dark times.
August 10th, 2020 at 12:16 PM ^
The first time in a long time I have laughed or even smiled when thinking about the last decade + of the game. thank you.

Important distinction.

Word. I was seriously worried about them hanging 100 on us.

Obvious OSU troll.

Disappointed, but not surprised. This year man...

This is the only answer worth paying attention to in this thread
August 10th, 2020 at 12:12 PM ^
I don't know about you, but I love Harbaugh's letter pleading for a season to go forward. Attaboy Jimmy
August 10th, 2020 at 12:48 PM ^
I was a bit inspired. It made me want to run through a wall for this season to happen. Leave it to Michigan to be the leaders and best! Too bad other teams didn't live up to our example.
August 10th, 2020 at 2:26 PM ^
Pretty different reaction on this board regarding the harbaugh statement when compared to the OSU players coming out and saying they wanted to play. Pretty sure they both had the exact same message.
August 10th, 2020 at 12:14 PM ^
This year has been one dick punch after another. I hope this shit is over soon.
August 10th, 2020 at 12:15 PM ^
Football program according to Harbaugh
893 tests, only 11 positive tests. Zero positives in the last 353 tests.
August 10th, 2020 at 12:18 PM ^
That’s great that he has his program under control, but he can’t control what other programs do and what their testing numbers are like. And when that program lines up across from his, the virus don’t give two shits that Harbaugh’s cohort has low numbers. It’ll infest his team just the same as it would any other program.
August 10th, 2020 at 12:21 PM ^
Yep. Much like everything in life, Rutgers and MSU are the ones to blame
August 10th, 2020 at 12:23 PM ^
Perhaps the Bigten could've spent the last 5 months adopting some specific guidelines to follow since we are going conference only. Then, Harbaugh wouldn't have been the only one in control of his program.
August 10th, 2020 at 12:16 PM ^
Get over it. The writing has been on the wall for weeks, if not months.
You want to feel bad? Feel bad for all the guys who bust their ass to get ready for the year only to find out weeks beforehand there won’t be one. Feel bad for the seniors like Carlo Kemp and Chuck Filiaga who are more than likely going to get robbed out of their final year of football, and won’t get another chance to play. Feel bad for all the guys who needed this year to get on some NFL scout’s radar.
August 10th, 2020 at 12:34 PM ^
Man you hit the nail square on the head.
Its these young men that should be at the center of our concerns. Its got to be confusing as hell for them. What's next?
I really wish leadership led.
Much more should have been done to give these guys a better shot. Maybe there was nothing that could have been done but damn it sure feels like not much planning for contigencies at a national level has gone into to much of anything for the last 6 months. It was never going to work if it was state by state or conference by conference. Each level had to work together to pull this off. Pitting states against each other was and is just one of the dumbest things I've ever seen in the U.S.

I have a chubby thinking about all the pain trump worshipping walverines, whose entire identity is cheering for minorities (who they hate off the field) playing for a school they didn't attend, will endure. Every Saturday I will wake up and picture them crying about the libs cancelling THEIR football season and smile.
August 10th, 2020 at 12:37 PM ^
Wow, a chubby over this news eh? I’m glad you were able find a personal silver lining, I guess.
August 10th, 2020 at 12:52 PM ^
And yet, you won't have a football team to root for either.
You are a sad person.
August 10th, 2020 at 1:12 PM ^
This is going to be an amazing test of the board's moderation standards.
August 10th, 2020 at 4:06 PM ^
You probably cant get a chubby! Nobody is interested in your ignorant political nonsense.

Calm down man. We all love college football but it's just 1 season.
August 10th, 2020 at 12:25 PM ^
Yeah, except it's not for the guys who have worked incredibly hard their whole life to get there. It's one of the last years to use the skills they've developed. I don't understand how so many people miss this.
August 10th, 2020 at 12:29 PM ^
Why wouldn't everyone's eligibility just get extended by one year?
August 10th, 2020 at 12:40 PM ^
Do you have any faith that the NCAA would do anything that logical, and pro-student athlete?
I don't.
August 10th, 2020 at 12:57 PM ^
The rare case I will actually upvote a Hairless Nut fan, rather than just not downvote...
August 10th, 2020 at 1:03 PM ^
I certainly do. It's not like there is an age limit on these things. How is a year of eligibility burned if you don't play?
August 10th, 2020 at 1:19 PM ^
I'll preface with: I'm certainly not trying to argue.. I 100% believe players who've lost this season deserve another season scholarship.
But there are some logistical issues, right?
1. Amount of scholarship players. If we're capped at 85 and grant another season to all players.. with 17-25 freshmen coming onto scholarship, is the NCAA going to allow 110 players on scholarship for a season? Two seasons?
2. When does that extra class have to be off scholarship? You're going to bury some kids on the depth chart at most schools that would have expected to play next season.. are they just screwed then? How does a coach pitch playing time to a recruit right now if they're looking at 3-4 years behind older players?
3. Financials... I don't pretend to know how solvent most athletic departments are, but having an extra 17-25 players on scholarship would bring on some additional costs with room/board, healthcare, etc. I don't think UM or OSU would feel much pain.. but Eastern Michigan? Toledo? Those schools would feel some pain I would think.
Those are just questions that I wonder about, I'm sure other issues will come into play if it's decided all players get an extra year of eligibility.
August 10th, 2020 at 1:19 PM ^
That would be the right thing to do, but I have my doubts about whether or not it’ll happen. Does everyone get an extra year, or just the seniors who are on their way out? What does that do about the scholarship limits for any given team?
And then if you get past that, there’s the financial matter of having another 10-25 guys on scholarship for another year you weren’t anticipating them to have them for. Not to mention all the freshmen coming in and expecting their scholarship, too. Some schools might sit there and say “I just flat out can’t afford to have these many guys on scholarship.” What do you do with the schools who can’t afford to do this vs. the bigger schools that can?
I don’t disagree that this would be the right thing and most ethical thing to do. But the amount of moving parts to it has me skeptical that it’ll actually happen. I’d say it’s just as likely, if not more so, that your seniors are given their firm handshake and a foot in the ass on the way out the door.
August 10th, 2020 at 12:17 PM ^
I feel nothing. If you haven’t used the past few months to prepare for this mentally, welcome to reality.

WD I thought you were a Trump supporter? Did I make that up?
August 10th, 2020 at 12:23 PM ^
Even if he was, I can't think of a better way to... er... correct that unfortunate stance than to cancel football because of a totally botched government response.
August 10th, 2020 at 1:14 PM ^
If someone else were president, coronavirus would still be here, and we would still not have a vaccine, and we still would not have contact amateur sports right now. So blame whomever you want in order to feel better but it would not matter who the president is, we still would not have CFB this fall.
August 10th, 2020 at 1:33 PM ^
How are other countries having sports then?
