Friday Final Four Predictions + How Wrecked is your Bracket?

Submitted by XM - Mt 1822 on April 1st, 2022 at 7:23 PM

Happy Weekend Mates,

Final Four weekend is upon us.  The ladies are playing tonight but the men play tomorrow, tip off at 6:09 for the first game.  Interestingly, for the men only a single #1 seed made it, along with two 2's and an 8.  For the ladies it was three 1-seeds and a 2, much more 'chalky'.

Anyway, first game tomorrow is Kansas as a 4 pt favorite over Villanova.  It was at 4.5 earlier today.

Second game is Duke also as a 4 pt favorite over UNC.  Given their rivalry and Coach K's imminent retirement, that could be a barn-burner of a game.

Both games are on TBS.

Tonight's questions:

1.  First, how badly mangled is your NCAA bracket, how many of the final 4 did you get.  In our house, only one of us picked Kansas, no other entrants have a single of the final 4.

2.  What's your prediction about who wins tomorrow?  Any Coach K sympathy or is it more a meteor game given UNC's cheatin' record?

3.  For those who wish, what is in your cup and on your BBQ/plate this evening?

Happy April Fool's, going to see some football tomorrow

Gonzaga is not going to beat Arizona, so my bracket is bad to quite bad. It is hard to find a team to cheer for here, but I guess our nemesis Villanova at least has a likable coach and less blue in their blood. Hubert Davis seems like a fun guy to cheer for as well (compared to K), so give me the underdogs.

Yeah last Saturday and Sunday roughed me up. However I prefer to fill out a bracket when Michigan is not involved. I have a heart and also a brain.

I had Auburn winning it all, and none of these other 3 of said final 4 correct, so that should tell you what my bracket looks like.

Of the remaining coaches, Hubert Davis seems the most likeable, so I'll root for UNC tomorrow, and, universe willing, on Monday.

Not eating or drinking anything tonight. I lost my job today, so I think I'm just going to contemplate the meaning of life for a bit, then go to bed. Alas, tomorrow is a new day.

vlady, that is not good news.  sorry about that.  IIRC you had switched jobs a year or two ago and were pretty happy with the new one.

and if its any consolation, i also had auburn winning it all and then watched them play like a bunch of highly athletic spaz's who didn't know how to play basketball and of course lose.

Sorry, replied at wrong level.

I feel your pain.  I was determined to be redundant last year after a merger.  Everything worked out and things are better than ever.  I started out overconfident but then started taking the job hunting process seriously and ended up confident.  Good luck.

Sorry to hear that Puti that sucks. Fortunately there are a lot of opportunities and the market is pretty solid to explore new opportunities. You are clearly a better person than I am because I'd be staring at the bottom end of a fifth of Fireball right now. Good luck to you my friend, tomorrow is a new day.

On topic my bracket is horrible, I picked one team of the elite 8 (Kansas) and that ship has sailed. My $100 was nothing but a donation a long time ago.

I just want to say thank you to everybody for their kind words and encouragement. It was difficult sharing the news with my wife yesterday, but I do have a couple irons in the fire and some savings so hopefully things will turn out okay, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't scared about the future.

It was a helluva week, starting with my older daughter being accepted to BU and ending with trying to figure out if it's even worth trying to amend her FAFSA.

Call BU, and any other school she's interested in, on Monday morning and explain the situation. Most schools will adjust FA based on new information and this certainly qualifies. They will have a process which might not be fun, but I would be stunned if they, or any other school, didn't lower your out of pocket costs.

When we were playing Villanova, it didn't feel like we were playing a team who should be in the Final 4 or Championship. They're a very disciplined team, but nothing like the Brunson-led squad we faced. Seems like an unimpressive field this year, compared to some of the loaded squads we ran into during our runs. Usually there are a few teams with young studs and a few solid vets. This year seemed like an either/or in those departments.

Felt the same way but for good reason.  Brunson and Divincenzo are good NBA shooters and pretty good defenders.  If that's not enough you have Mikal Bridges who's killing it on the Suns, and Spellman/Paschall, while not as solid, still are solid enough to be in the NBA currently.  Pretty insane when you dissect their team and realize how much talent they had.

I have two of the final four (Duke, Kansas) and I'm in the 97th percentile on ESPN, so ... woo.

Bracket aside, I'll be cheering for cheatin' UNC tomorrow. I never cheer for cheatin' Coach K.

I'll be cheering against cheatin' Kansas on the other side.

This final four sucks. Three eminently hateable blue bloods and a rich mans Beilein whose had too much success that i'm very jealous of.

As for my bracket, hah, destroyed, i had gonzaga, murray state, iowa, and michigan. Hell, the only elite 8 teams i got right were houston and duke!

Coach K and John Calipari are the same person wrapped in different packaging. My bracket is wrecked, so it's anyone but Duke rooting time.

Fuck Duke and Coach K. And that's for life, son!

I had Duke over Kansas in the final so my bracket isn't all that bad. Also had Purdue and Arizona in the Final Four. I could be in far worse shape.

My brackets are done. Give me Duke and Kansas. Under Nova Kansas and over UNC Duke. Also Manek and Banchero over points as well. Duke beats Kansas for the title too.

My FF was Gonzaga, AZ, Baylor, and Kansas. I had AZ beating Gonzaga in the title game. The rest of my bracket is a pathetic smoking wreck.

It's an illustration of why I don't bet on sports.

I picked Nova over Kansas in the FF and losing to Gonzaga in the finals. The other side of my bracket was a mess.

In the remaining bracket I'm playing where I have a shot at the money, I tie for second if Nova wins it all, tie for third if Duke beats Nova, out of the money if UNC wins it all or Nova loses to Kansas.

So now I'm fan of Nova beating Duke in the finals.

I usually crash and burn - for some reason the team I pick as champion is usually eliminated within hours of the tourney beginning.

However, this year, I'm currently #1 out of 300 in one pool, and #4 out of 150 in the other pool I always join. If Villanova wins (or if NC beats Villanova in the final), I stand to make like $3K. Unfortunately, with Moore out (or even with him in), I just don't see it happening... May be worse to finish just out of the money than to finish last, as usual?

Looking at my bracket, I did better than I thought I had. I picked seven teams out of the Sweet 16 (all four in the West and one team in each of the other three), but none of the winners in the Sweet 16 round.

Not good, in other words, but I really thought I had done worse.

I'm going to drown my sorrows with a few glasses of a nice Primitivo.
