Isn't this the point in the movie where he expects the two boats to blow each other up, but nothing happens?

Your "Please" is at odds with the ultimate result this scene, is it not.  Or are you hoping that this does fizzle out and the regents get a talking to from Batman about the essential goodness of human nature?

As I mentioned in an earlier thread, its a no-lose for the Regents that want him gone. They can use this as a chance to bolster themselves against an extremely disliked political adversary. Plus, they don't get the ultimate say so they can shoot off a resolution and at the end of the day, it has no real ramifications. Why not bash the guy?

EDIT: For those above with fingers crossed and hoping its real.... remember, while these guys have more say than you, I or the students protesting in the Diag, the final call rests with Schlissel. Essentially the Regents are just adding more fuel to the fire but it doesn't necessarily mean the President WILL act.

They risk losing the respect of the vast majority that doesn't care about U-M athletics.  Sports have little to do with their mission.  If I weren't a U-M fan I don't think I'd look favorably on a Regent that aired some dirty laundry on an outgoing administrator.  That would make the school look pretty dysfunctional.

I'd like to see him relieved of his duties, but it should be done with a measure of decorum.

Bruce Feldman is one of the more reliable and ethical sports journalists out there.  When news like this is coming from Feldman, it's pretty much a lock.  The obstinate David Brandon refusing to resign makes a lot of sense, too.  Brandon will leave as he came in: squeezing every last penny he can out of the school and its fanbase.

seriously telling me if you get fired you would look at the severance pay and go "NAH!".

Yeah right!

If you want to be mad at somebody, be mad at Mary Sue for hiring him as payback for his support in her hire and then giving him an outrageous extension just before she left.

Why doesn't he resign? Does he have any self-respect? If I was him I would apologize for my mistakes, reaffirm my love for the university, and humbly show myself out.

My guess is that it has something to do with the wording on his contract.  He can collect his unpaid salary if he is fired but not if he resigns, I would imagine.

Plus he can collect unemployment for 6 months.

Go something like this, welcome back Dave.  He would wonder why the pizza is less horrible before.  Wonder why they care about quality when quantity is where its at.  Who cares about the customers the brand that is important

if you think about it from his perspective, he was doing the right thing until the Minnesota game.  Sure, there were rumblings about rawk music, sky writing, etc., and the performance on the field was unimpressive, but until then, that was more of Hoke thing than a Brandon thing.  I think all of this did come "out of the blue" to him.

People with narcissistic personality traits are not good at admitting mistakes. If they do, they will find a way to make excuses or blame the mistakes on others.

As a clinical psychologist I try really hard to be "off duty" when I'm not at work (and I'm not a big fan of diagnostic labels in the first place), but everything I hear about Brandon is just straight out of the textbook.
