This card is great. The $50 is what you would pay for a Costco membership anyways (a must in my family). Last year I did quite a bit of traveling for work on the card and got $600 cash back. CASH! You just go to Costco and at the cashier you exchange your end of the year coupon for cash. Between Amex Costco and Amex Blue Perfered (6% cash back on groceries and 3% gas) you have likely over 50% of your yearly purchases at at least 2% cash back or higher between these cards (6% groceries, 3% gas, 2% resturants, 2% travel). I've done extensive research on this in case you can't tell :) Never had a single issue with Amex either. The one time I went over my spending limit and realized it, they called me to let me know, and then RAISED my spending limit on the spot! Edit: A nice little trick too - grocery stores have gift cards for everything. So if you know you are going to spend a certain amount somewhere, buy a giftcard at the grocery store. 6% cash back on EVERYTHING this way! |

I guess that we are just going to have to disagree. I know that there is literature out there stating that using ones own patella is better. There is also plenty of literature stating the opposite. I don’t mean to sound smug, but I was lucky enough to have family connections in the medical world and consulted multiple Professional Team Physicians before my surgery (NFL, MLS…). I was told pretty universally the same thing each time – using ones own patella used to be hands down what was considered the gold standard. Then about 15 years ago things started to shift and using Allograft (donated tissue)started to gain momentum. Fully recovery to 100% form takes a month or two longer, but in the end has almost exactly the same chance re-tearing.
Spero Karas was the MD who performed my surgery (http://www.sperokaras.com/).
I don’t think that you can go wrong with either one, but if I were an older man (I’m 23) I would definitely want the less invasive surgery and would go for the allograft.

Backstory: I'm 23 and tore my ACL playing soccer. It was a completely clean tear (kind of unusual) where nothing else was damaged at all (e.g. meniscus, MCL). Tear was from a noncontact, but instead an unlucky turn of the knee. Advice: Get the surgery otherwise your knee will never be the same. ACL not only helps keep you knee aligned, but also provides cushion on impacts. Arthritis at an earlier age is very common in people who do not get the surgery. Also, get the surgery done by a doctor who has specialized in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine. Many professional sports team doctors also have a practice where they perform surgeries on ordinary guys like you and me (NFL docs are normally at the top of the list). You want the surgery done by someone who does a lot of them... hence the sports docs. Patella vs Cadaver: there are benefits to both. Patella is the tried and true gold standard, but obviously is more painful as you are taking your own muscle. Cadaver takes a bit longer to heal (1-2 months) but also keeps your patella in tact. More and more pro athletes are going the cadaver route and there is no real evidence to state one is better than the other. EDIT: As I was able to take an extra month to get back to sports, I chose the Cadaver route. I would do this again if I had the choice. My surgery was done by doctor of an NFL team and he said that it is almost 50/50 now in the NFL when choosing between patella and Cadaver. Surgery: Do pre-op physical therapy. This is where I really skimped and it made it sooo much harder to recover. A week of muscle atrophy takes about a month to recover. Muscles right above the kneed and hamstrings are what take the hit. Trust me, you need to work these out before surgery! Pain: Surgery sucks. No way around it. You will be basically handicapped entirely for a week (at least in my experience). You will need someone to help you do ordinary tasks. It hurts like hell and was the worst thing I've ever had to go through. But you get through it. Hope this helps. Good Luck. |
| 16 weeks 4 days ago | Look at my sarcastic response internet! |
I'm not sure why you would respond like that? This was rumoured a couple days ago, but only confirmed by Aurburn earlier today. And being that this will directly affect the (potentially) highest ranked recruit Michigan has gotten in the past 5-10 years... I'd say it's worth mentioning.

Auburn just lost its running backs coach to the NFL. TomVH is reporting that Rich Bisaccia is officially gone. |
| 18 weeks 23 hours ago | This needs to stop on mgoblog. |
People need to stop reposting every top sports story from Reddit.com to mgoblog. Just about every OT post I have seen here over the past few weeks has appeared within 5 hours of the exact same post appearing on Reddit. I understand that some things are great, and should be shared with the mgoblog community... but not every sports link. Create your own content people! A plea from a long time mgoblog and reddit user. Thanks.
Edit: link to top (ORIGINAL) reddit post: http://www.reddit.com/r/videos/comments/16lsyk/no_shot_required_goal/ |

to save some money and it didn't pay off? Therefore your 'experience sucked'? I don't mean to sound rude, but that just sounds very childish. Your title should read - "Scalping tickets at the Outback Bowl sucked". |

Sorry, I should have been a bit more informative. The original ending (with a ?) sort of suggested that there are beginning reports of his commitment. Good link though. Thanks for the post. |

That's the second time this week a UofM Football article has made the front page. Certainly can't hurt our national exposure. |

Let's hope that this was somewhat of a wakeup call (even if it wasn't really justified) for him in the sense that opportunities like playing for Michigan is not guaranteed. I bet he comes out with an invigorated drive to perform well this next season. EDIT: By no means do I think he should have been in trouble, In fact it sounds like he showed very good control during the incedent. I just think he'll be happy to be back to playing football and may appreciate it more. |

Beside the exact location of the infection hurting like hell, the whole area around it also is very painful to touch and has a burning sensation. Also, the infection normally comes with a mid to high fever ( I think mine was roughly 102/103) and flu like simptions, which kind of sinusoidal until you get the proper medication. One hour I'd be fine, and then the next I'd have that high fever.
All I can say is when I had one on my hip, it hurt to even walk (and I was never hospitalized). I would imagine this to very likely have affected Denard's throwing. |

Anyways, I would focus on teams if you are looking for good soccer. As mentioned above, la liga and the Premiership are arguably the 2 best leagues in the world. UEFA Champions League being the number 1 tournament in the world. But more specifically, try and catch Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Bayern Munich... and then go from there. Those will be the best quality soccer games, but sometimes it's the lower level Premiership games that I really enjoy becuase the players just try so damn hard, where some of the more "premier players" tend to feel entitled to getting every call from the ref. Oh, and I almost forgot about Footytube.com <- by far the best way to quickly see the highlights of recent top level games. Just wait a day or two after the actual game is played, and there is always a top quality highlight of the game with commentary and everything. |

I graduated this past April, and I very much love my new city and job... but seeing these replays honestly brought a few tears to my eyes. To those of you on mgoblog who are still current students, I promise you, you have no idea how much you will miss UofM and AA until you are gone. Enjoy every second of it. Even the losses, cause you are experiencing it all with friends. Now to make up for this sappy post I will go eat some Wheaties with beer. |
