College Gameday (Open) Thread

It's 10:50 now.

FYI for those that care to watch...a preview on Michigan is coming up soon. They're going to give their take on our "offensive woes."

Edit: Didn't say anything of note, but Desmond Howard very uncomfortably called out Borges. Clearly wanting to say more, but wanting to keep it professional...less "homer"...and not ruffle too many maize and blue feathers. Did say Borges needs to earn his check (3rd highest paid OC in the country), he acknoledged the youth...but said Borges gets paid to figure out the problem. Repeated that Borges needs to use weapons and outscheme defenses.

As I recall, he originally made $350,000 in 2011, then got the rather hefty raise in 2012 to $650,000. The contract also called for $50,000 per year in additional salary (not counting performance bonuses like bowl appearances) after that. So, he should be at $700,000 this year, I would think. Yeah....that's all I have right now.

I misunderstood the 3rd highest paid OC, not coordinator. Most of the highest-paid are DCs (only Cam Cameron of the highest-paid coordinators below is on the offensive side of the ball):

  1. Chad Morris: $1.3065 million
  2. Cam Cameron: $1.13 million
  3. Kirby Smart $950,000
  4. John Chavis $911,250
  5.  Todd Granthan $825,000
  6. Brent Venables $800,000
  7. Ellis Johnson $800,000
  8. Luke Fickell $761,000
  9. Greg Mattison $758,900
  10. Justin Wilcox $750,000

It was a final warning.

It was a "Don't think your're just going to sit on your ass and tell us to go away for two years and everything will be just fine someday down the road.  You're the third highest paid OC RIGHT NOW.  We're not going to just hang out while you think you're going to have 24 Spring Games in a row to figure things out."

That was a bunch of nothing.

Dez called out Borges, clearly uncomfortable and wanting to say more, but said he's the 3rd highest paid OC in the country and needs to earn his check. Needs to outscheme defenses and while youth is a factor, he needs to figure out a way to overcome it.

Delete thread. A bunch of nothing.

I thought he did well.  It was simple.  He didn't let his emotions get the best of him on national television.  He conveyed a message we're all thinking though and did it in a compsed manner.  It wasn't a message filled with hate and contempt and fury that we'd love to see but that wouldn't be productive for the fan base and we/he would regret that.

while Howard said what we all have been thinking I would hate to fall back into the days of former players bitching about current coaches cause we've already seen how well that worked out last time...

The quote from Desmond "You have to out coach your opponent, you have to out scheme your opponent" about Al Borges & Michigan and also mentioning he is expected to do this with his salary. Hurts to hear it from an alumni/past player.

He's the head coach who's responsible for the team that trots out onto the field week after week. I'm positive he knows all about the offensive game plan. What else would he be doing all week? This is just a narrative meant to defend Hoke's head coaching job for the moment.

And Rich Rodriguez played defensive back at West Virginia. I'm sure he knows quite a bit about defense.

Oh Hellz Yeah!!! Desmond just lit Al Borges UP! "At some point the 3rd highest paid coordinator in the country has to stop blaming the inexperience of the team and simply out-scheme somebody! " Des made his point so well & so emphatically he left Coach & Herbie speechless! It was a powerful moment. The snowball just picked up some scary momentum, Al, better get on the skis and move....
