Classic Brian Kelly
Brian Kelly's response to questions about his sideline demeanor in nd's loss to SFU on saturday:
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Asked innocuously enough about his fits of rage on the sideline in last weekend's loss to South Florida, Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly immediately sought clarification.
"Did I hit somebody, did I strike somebody?" Kelly asked during his regular Tuesday news conference. "Is that what you're referring to?"
Also this:
"I've got to do a better job of understanding when that camera is on me, and it seems like that camera is on me more than I'm used to. I'll have to do a better job of controlling my emotions."
I knew there would be a thoughtful response if we just waited for it.

Kelly can coach but.... Good luck with all the baggage Irish fans.
Thankfully Brandon hired the best coach in the country for M. Bar none. I wouldn't trade Brady Hoke for Kelly, Harbaugh and Miles combined. Beat ND!

This post is why outsiders mock the excitability of some Michigan fans.
September 6th, 2011 at 6:10 PM ^
I figured it was douche bags like you.
September 6th, 2011 at 6:34 PM ^
And your post is why I mock the contant pessimism of some Michigan fans.
Honesly, all Hoke has done is rally the fanbase, hire an all-star staff, recruit like a maniac and win his first game. What more do you want from the guy?
September 6th, 2011 at 6:49 PM ^
its "cool" here to play the aloof, know-it-all over being an actual fan who recklessly hopes and even expects to go 13-0 every year.
God bless all us crazy bastards' cotton pickin maize and blue hearts.
September 6th, 2011 at 6:59 PM ^
I meant what I posted but I must admit I like fucking with the BRCE's of the blog.
The only thing as good as the Brandon and Hoke combo, is Illitch rightfully extending the contracts of two of the brightest minds in baseball, Dave Dombrowski, and Jimmy Leyland!!!
Go Tigers, Go Blue, ND can kiss my ass

Does that really gain you? Feel better if it's not true?
September 6th, 2011 at 9:45 PM ^
There is no subliminal message in my post. I just think it is silly to proclaim Hoke as anything more than 1-0 against the MAC right now.
September 6th, 2011 at 10:40 PM ^
The past 3 years have made me a pessimistic piece of sh-t. I always entered seasons expecting the Wolverines to go undefeated. Now, I take more of a wait-and-see approach. In fact, its the same approach that my father takes and one that always used to bother the hell out of me when I was younger. I always thought it was pessimistic but now I'm thinking its more of the approach of a realist.
September 7th, 2011 at 12:49 PM ^
Everything's fine from where I'm sitting. I just don't see what it gets people to say "whoa, slow down" all the time. You're not convincing anyone. You're not making them feel better. You're not making yourself feel better. Guess maybe you don't feel as bad if things go south. Just kind of a sad way to live. (And I'm taking a wild guess that you weren't correcting outlandish posts when people were saying the last guy would be winning national championships every other year starting in 2010). Let people have their fun. It's not a crime to be hopeful, even excessively so. Why bring people down before the world does that for them?
September 6th, 2011 at 11:58 PM ^
Hoke's attributes are entirely secondary when looking at the ridiculousness of that sentiment.
The job that Jim Harbaugh did at Stanford was incredible. One of the best we've seen in the college game in ages and the tug-of-war for his services last January reflects that. Miles is a goofball but people keep waiting for him to ruin LSU and yet he has kept in the nation's elite longer than Saban did with no signs of slowing down. He's a huge success.
Seriously, I think the last time I said "I'd rather have it than (blank), (blank) and (blank) combined," I was seven years old.
September 6th, 2011 at 8:25 PM ^
Since when have outsiders accused us of that? They're always calling our stadium a library.

You're smelly, and I don't like you.
September 6th, 2011 at 7:58 PM ^
I think Kelly is on a short leash right now. He can mock the questions all he wants, but like it or not, there are strings that come with coaching at ND. How many more "God Damns" can he drop in clear view and visible to the viewer before things get a little dicey for him when you have a statue of jesus in the frickin endzone. Holtz was emotional, but Kelly is a vast departure from anything that ND has had on the sidelines for as far as I can remember. It is one thing to meet a player with intense criticism when they come off the field, RR did that and I never found it offensive, but to follow kids back to the bench and continue the tirade with f-bomb after f-bomb and a crazed lunatic look on your face, that is a little much. He can say what he wants, but I bet you a fair sum that he has had a talking to, and that you will see him a little more reserved for the foreseeable future.
September 6th, 2011 at 11:02 PM ^
Speaking of Kelly being on a short leash, did that gif on the front page remind anyone else of this?

"I'm an asshooo-oooo-ooool!"
September 6th, 2011 at 8:08 PM ^
is yet to be determined. Granted, I do NOT watch anything that relates to nd (other than we are the opposing team), but I thought his coaching decisions against us last year were, frankly, horrible. If he continues to make decision like those ... nd will never succeed, which is my dream for them.
Go Blue!
September 6th, 2011 at 8:24 PM ^
It's the media that is the baggage.
September 6th, 2011 at 5:21 PM ^
"Did I hit somebody, did I strike somebody?" Kelly asked during his regular Tuesday news conference. "Is that what you're referring to?"
Well he did spit at someone which I believe is misdemeanor battery in some states, not sure about Indiana though.
September 6th, 2011 at 5:23 PM ^
He did? Link?
September 6th, 2011 at 5:31 PM ^
It was a joke. He was yelling in the guy's face so I would imagine some saliva vacated his mouth during the rant.
September 6th, 2011 at 5:39 PM ^
I imagine that, if that player's face did get wet, the salive smelled a lot like a history of anger and shame, almost as if Kelly coached at.....oh, wait, he does coach there.
September 6th, 2011 at 7:42 PM ^
...it is ok to be verbally abusive especially if it isn't caught on camera. He is a real prince of a guy.
September 6th, 2011 at 5:21 PM ^
he did strike me...as a lunatic
September 6th, 2011 at 5:26 PM ^
and then hired Skip Holtz. They were paying Weis either way.
September 6th, 2011 at 5:49 PM ^
I think was why he was extra ragey. He knows how fickle the ND fanbase is. A couple more losses and the Irish will be screaming for Kelly's head and annointing Skip Holtz as the future of the program. After all Skip Holtz is the hot young coach who beat BK.
September 6th, 2011 at 5:27 PM ^
I'm referring to that time when you looked like a giant, purple, rage-rhino whose sheer ANGAR propelled you into space, reaching escape velocity, slingshotting into a collision course with the sun, blasting through it and cooling down in the vaccum of space before returning to Earth, naming Tommy Rees your starting quarterback, and coming to today's press conference.

BK: Are you f-ing kidding me? I was in a teaching moment about the color purple. Profound stuff.
September 7th, 2011 at 8:59 AM ^
I learned a lot about purple in college. Crazy-Crazy color if you look at it long enough.
September 6th, 2011 at 5:31 PM ^
About his behavior.
September 6th, 2011 at 5:32 PM ^
I am amazed that people think he's a good coach. All I hear about is his good record at places like Saginaw Valley, Central, & Cinci.
I for one think the guys sucks, and believe him being named ND coach is the best thing that could have happened to Michigan. He barely achieved a winning record last year with a very talented roster, and is one the verge of destroying Christ's career (who if he wasn't being asked by Kelly to run would end up being a solid pro qb). I love that Kelly is ND's coach,. and wonder if ND will have the balls to fire him in three years after he's further pluged that program into the abyss. F-U Irish!
September 6th, 2011 at 5:42 PM ^
Kelly is another Big lEast wunderkind except he really is a dick as well.
September 6th, 2011 at 5:49 PM ^
Grand Valley not Saginaw Valley. Saginaw sucks where as Grand Valley runs it. West side representing.
September 6th, 2011 at 6:18 PM ^
Thank you.
September 6th, 2011 at 6:24 PM ^
Hey, screw you the west side sucks.
Edit: Not the whole west side just you.
September 6th, 2011 at 6:31 PM ^
F that, the West Side is the Best Side.
September 6th, 2011 at 6:45 PM ^
If we're talking about the state of Michigan here, then the west side sucks, as does the east side, and so does everything in between.

I'd be watching your mouth about the West Siyeed because I have a couple of big ol' Dutchman buddies that'd be happy to put a size 24 wooden shoe in yer ass.
(When you live this close to Holland this kind of humor is well received)
September 6th, 2011 at 7:36 PM ^
He barely achieved a winning record last year with a very talented roster, and is one the verge of destroying Christ's career (who if he wasn't being asked by Kelly to run would end up being a solid pro qb).
I don't know enough about Kelly's career to determine whether he's a good coach or a bad coach. But even if he's awful, I don't think he'll be viewed by most as destroying Christ's career. I also have my doubts whether Christ would have ended up a solid pro quarterback had Weis stuck around.
I'm not even sure how Kelly's coaching relates to Christ's fortunes in the first place. I think Christians and non-Christians alike would have a hard time explaining that interplay.
September 6th, 2011 at 5:36 PM ^
Hopefully he will behave better on camera and only be a horse's rear end off of it. Else, we'll have to deal with Skip Holtz.
September 6th, 2011 at 5:40 PM ^
So his issue is that he needs to be less of a lunatic WHEN THE CAMERA IS ON HIM, as opposed to, like, being less of a lunatic, PERIOD.
He is basically saying that his conduct was totally fine, so long as it doesn't get viewed on national TV.
How does this NOT hurt ND recruiting. While there is certainly nothing wrong with being a tough coach, what parent would want their kid to play for a complet nutcase who berates players on national TV???
September 6th, 2011 at 6:10 PM ^
I know that there aren't many parents who want their kids to film his practices. Kelly is another ego maniac who was able to get away with his bush league bullshit while in the shadows of college football. Once he steps into the spot light his flaws are on display for the world to see. It will be a long, hard fall, from savior to satan in the eyes of ND fans.
September 6th, 2011 at 6:27 PM ^
And sadly, in the end, winning is all that matters. Kelly could literally stab people for messing up plays, but if he wins national championships, ND would love him. Might get sent to jail, but they would still love him. And I think most fan bases would be the same way.
