Well, if Sakenburg is with us, who could be against us?
October 31st, 2022 at 10:30 AM ^
Folks here used to refer to him as ‘On-his-backenburg.’
October 31st, 2022 at 11:46 AM ^
If only the Alan Branch/Anthony Morelli photo was Hackenburg instead.....
October 31st, 2022 at 9:55 AM ^
To be the pedant in the room: Hackenberg was complimentary of Michigan’s complementary football.
October 31st, 2022 at 10:08 AM ^
Pedantry FTW
October 31st, 2022 at 11:06 AM ^
He had the pedantry waiting in the pantry!
October 31st, 2022 at 10:13 AM ^
You should've included the incorrect apostrophe. :)
October 31st, 2022 at 10:25 AM ^
You keep this up all season you may win the pedant pennant.
October 31st, 2022 at 10:32 AM ^
I hear the pedant pennant comes with a pendant.
October 31st, 2022 at 10:50 AM ^
How could you miss a chance to use penance? I expect some voluntary self-punishment.
October 31st, 2022 at 10:59 AM ^
it's called the "penultimate pedant pennant pendant"
October 31st, 2022 at 11:41 AM ^
And it's five-sided, which would make it:
the "pentagonal penultimate pedant pennant pendant"

Instead of champagne, should celebrate with pet-nat!
October 31st, 2022 at 11:44 AM ^
"he loves the way Michigan goes about it's business."
It's not outrageous but its use, that is, "it's" instead of "its," is wrong.
(To be fair though, that distinction is slipping away. The English language has always slid past rules, with shifting usages that makes it both frustratingly sloppy and gloriously flexible.)
October 31st, 2022 at 10:54 AM ^
An understandable mistake but one I'm glad you corrected. Complement=pairs well, compliment=praise.
October 31st, 2022 at 11:17 AM ^
Thank you
October 31st, 2022 at 11:37 AM ^
I've really got bigger fish to fry, but I find your pedantry to be sophomoric. :)
October 31st, 2022 at 12:41 PM ^
This is technically correct, which is the best kind of correct.
October 31st, 2022 at 5:11 PM ^
Looks like a regular led light fixture to me.
October 31st, 2022 at 9:59 AM ^
I remember how good he looked as a freshman during his first year at Penn State under BoB.
Every time I hear his name, I wonder how different his career trajectory would've been if BoB had stayed at Penn State for Hackenburg's entire tenure. There would've likely been limitations as Penn State was dealing with the fallout from the sanctions, but he probably would've been much better than how his career ended under Franklin. Maybe even pro material.
You could tell Hackenburg and Franklin were just flat out not a fit for each other.
October 31st, 2022 at 10:41 AM ^
My new hot take is that Franklin hates QBs. That's the best explanation I can come up with for how each and every PSU QB has ended up during his tenure.
Hackenberg is probably STILL sore from all the hits he took. He, Clifford, Devin Gardner, and Drew Stanton can swap stories about bad OL and worse coaching getting them lit up.
October 31st, 2022 at 10:53 AM ^
Payton Thorne will drag his way into that convo a couple months after the season is over when he gains enough strength.
October 31st, 2022 at 11:19 AM ^
It's remarkable to me in that since Franklin has taken over, his offensive line has never even made it above mediocre. Most years its just terrible, and its not like he can't recruit talent. They've just been awful at developing that position.
How much better would his freshmen RBs be this year if they had a line that could block for them? Shoot, how much better would Barkley have been with a better OL? And he was already one of the best players in the country by his final year. Probably would've won the Heisman.
October 31st, 2022 at 11:51 AM ^
I looked him up. Franklin was a quarterback, at East Stroudsburg University. And apparently pretty good: he was a Division II nominee for player of the year.
October 31st, 2022 at 9:59 AM ^
I think the quick strike question is fair. Although Michigan really has not had to show that aspect of the offense. Whether or not they can do it certainly is debateable, but I do think they have the speed in Wilson to take the top off. It would be nice to that over these next three weeks to losen up the box a little.
Michigan just chokes teams out. Can't remember the dudes name but it reminds me of the little cage fighter from the 90's that would just ride everyone out with choke holds.
October 31st, 2022 at 10:03 AM ^
Royce Gracie? Probably not, but that's the only name I remember from that period.
October 31st, 2022 at 10:39 AM ^
Yes, him. While everyone else was throwing haymakers or lethal kicks, he’d dance around avoiding all of those, peer in a few kicks or punches himself, and then suddenly strike like a boa constrictor, and before you realized what had happened the other guy would be tapping out.
October 31st, 2022 at 10:18 AM ^
It's definitely fair. His pondering about what would happen if UM found themselves down a few scores early is also on point as I just don't think they're built to respond to that.
They haven't needed more but the UM offense is basically the same exact thing as last year but a slightly different, if not downgraded backfield due to depth (not Corum alone, who is tremendous) and a slightly better QB. JJ is basically Cade+ , whether by design or his limitations at the moment. Better arm, better legs, slightly better field vision. Still misses or simply passes up a lot. "Meat on the bone" as some say.
But a lot of ball to be played and a win is a win is a win. I just hope they can kick it up a gear when they have to, because they will have to at some point.
October 31st, 2022 at 10:21 AM ^
To your choke teams out point, it's got to be frustrating for a D to spend 10 minutes on the field, have their O go 3-and-out, and then trot onto the field only to get grinded again. (and again and again as Sparty saw all through the second half)
October 31st, 2022 at 10:33 AM ^
While I am pretty confident in our passing offense because I've seen it be successful and that we just elect to run the ball down teams' throats because we can and Harbaugh likes to be conservative, the doubt does always linger in the back of my mind in games like this
October 31st, 2022 at 10:59 AM ^
I hear the passing game concerns - had them myself Saturday night. But looking back on both PSU and MSU, those defenses sure did sell out to stop the deep passes! They left the run game wide open, so why not use it?
October 31st, 2022 at 12:52 PM ^
I have completely given up any hope that Harbaugh will ever throw the ball in order to get "practice" at doing it. Harbaugh will throw balls only as part of a gameplan to best win a game. He will never throw more than that, and he will never run the QB more than that to "practice". He is clearly an A.I. created with one primary program: to win football games in the most physical possible way while creating 300 kPa of pressure in the anus of each Michigan fan for 180 minutes every Saturday. He is the perfect A.I. for this.
October 31st, 2022 at 10:02 AM ^
This guy appreciates good o line play more than most. He had a lot of arm talent and his career would have looked very different had he gone to a place without scholarship restrictions.
October 31st, 2022 at 10:53 AM ^
It sure would have. He would have been underwhelming around less walk-ons.

That's a name I haven't heard in a while. Hope he is doing well. Too bad Franklin did not do a good job protecting him.
Yeah. Michigan is doing really well. Funny how we were all so worried about Defense at the beginning of the season. Now we are wondering about our passing offense and RZ woes. I think it will be fixed or opened up in the upcoming weeks. One thing these coaches have done well is self scouting.
October 31st, 2022 at 10:21 AM ^

October 31st, 2022 at 10:39 AM ^
We are. And you know, it is good enough to get to 11-0. It may even be enough to get to 12 and 13-0. Is it enough to win in the CFP? We'll see, but for now we have won 20 of our last 22 and are 8-0 and well on track to be undefeated going into Columbus.
October 31st, 2022 at 10:49 AM ^
That Illinois game concerns me a little. Top 15 matchup + potential trap game.
October 31st, 2022 at 10:55 AM ^
Ask me again after they play Purdue.
October 31st, 2022 at 10:57 AM ^
The 'trap' part gets me a little, but not so much Illinois. I've watched them a little against Iowa and Nebraska, and they didn't look top tier. Better than Wake, NCST, Cuse, etc... But not up to our level, or even Clemson/TCU level (which I feel is lower Top 10 territory. I don't think they're going to be able to stop us, or move the ball consistently. Chase Brown is good, but the rest just isn't at Michigan's level.
October 31st, 2022 at 11:04 AM ^
You would like to think though that any team that comes in ranked in the Top15 wouldn’t be a trap
October 31st, 2022 at 11:11 AM ^
I’ve always thought of him as Penn States Devin Gardner. Great talent doomed by poor coaching and terrible offensive line play.
