Not to mention it would be…

Not to mention it would be tough to snag receptions/interceptions with those holes in his hands.

1) Teams are begging us to…

1) Teams are begging us to run with 6 man boxes- seems like they're worried about the pass, even in spite of Corum/Edwards/our OL. As the Futurama meme goes, shut up and take my free yards.

2) We have the best M RB Brian has ever seen and a mashing OL to match. That seems to be working out pretty well for us, ride the horse that brought you there.

3) I think about all those "this close, just missed it" deep throws from McCarthy, particularly earlier in the season, that would juice up those stats. McCarthy remains an incredibly accurate passer, just because we haven't had to unleash the Rex Grossman "fuck it, I'm going deep" dragon (seems like we're playing from ahead all the time, never really have had to mount a comeback, especially paired with our smothering defense), doesn't mean we can't.

4) Playing a certain style to win recruits seems like a cart before the horse kinda deal. I'd rather win the games and have that speak for itself. Will it have an effect on recruiting/potential transfers? In the portal/instant gratification/play now era of college football, sure, absolutely. But that doesn't mean we should chuck it deep to address that. Plus, let's see how things look after we play more teams with a pulse: Illinois, OSU, potential B1G championship game, bowl game. I'm reserving judgement on our passing game here, since we haven't really had to lean on it.

I appreciate your diplomatic translation. And it's injecting politics into the sportsblog. Even given I agree with the point, it's still intentionally touching that 3rd rail

You're the first person I've…

You're the first person I've seen say anything about attempting to kill or murder someone. Everyone else is saying assault, perhaps assault with a weapon of some kind. Introducing those words means something way different than what I think most of us saw. Could such a blow have killed him? Sure. But to me that would be manslaughter, not murder. Then again, I'm not a lawyer either. But no need to escalate the verbage there, methinks

And as another user pointed out, someone can both be incarcerated and receive help, they are not mutually exclusive. And as someone who worked in mental health in a jail setting, it's often the first place many of those folks receive help.

re: running backs sharing…

re: running backs sharing the rock, I'll add: given it's the position in the NFL with the shortest length of career, if I were in Edwards' shoes, sharing carries doesn't just keep legs fresh during games and for the season, but sharing carries with other talented backs keeps my own long-term hits-received at a reduced level of risk.

So long as he gets the chance to showcase his talent as a "lead back" (a term that is going by the wayside, by and large, at this position), even in a 1A/1B/RBBC situation, the league will take a chance on him and it helps preserve the longevity of his career.

I'd actually argue if a back of Donovan Edwards talent was stuck behind a traditional "bell-cow" like Ron Dayne or Mike Hart in today's era, they'd be more likely to hit the portal, but these days they get sprinkled in to packages/drives and play earlier in their careers as RB carries become more divided across the RB room (by and large)

Less grammar and more general football "commentating" pet peeve: end-arounds aren't reverses. Looking at you Gus Johnson on the most recent Ronnie Bell rushing touchdown, but it happens all the time seemingly, even by NFL professionals

Agreed, but at the very…

Agreed, but at the very least, thank god it's no pie chart...

To your second point, my thought there is that NHL's athlete's bodies' are in much "healthier" shape than a football which is a sport that by and large emphasizes otherwise excessive playing weights, all the more so for lineman. All that weight on top of the hits can't be good for the joints long-term. Might be able to examine my hypothesis better if one were able to break out length of NFL career by position

Agreed, that's the thing…

Agreed, that's the thing about sarcasm- folks have to "get it" in order for it to be funny. Even knowing it was sarcasm, after the edit, still not funny. Swing and a miss

In my opinion, by and large,…

In my opinion, by and large, yes. There are good things that can come from social media, no doubt. Community can be found, causes funded, information shared, and on.

However, in my personal experience and based on the vast majority of the research I've read, social media is more bad than good insofar as it creates false sense of other people's "perfect" realities and this false reflection tends to increase one's own insecurities that we're not as good as these others' perfect lives, leading to more mental health issues- depression/anxiety/body image issues/etc., on top of issues related to online bullying, living in confirmatory echo chambers/silos and what have you.

All of which in my mind outweigh the potential benefits that can come from social media. If that means I'm in the get off my lawn crowd, then I'll wear that badge with honor. So, please and thank you, get off my lawn!

From the wine bar/restaurant…

From the wine bar/restaurant (at least, a reputable one, anyways) side of things: go ahead and order that cheapest bottle. It's on the menu for a reason, the whole second cheapest bottle thing is a myth, unless you're purely wanting to play that vanity game. Wine isn't cheap (compared to other imbibing beverages), so don't feel like you have to spend more to impress when that most affordable bottle should be just as good as that second most affordable and finances are a concern. Also, if you're getting 2 glasses of wine, consider straight up buying the bottle, it'll be more affordable compared to a by-the-glass offering if you're planning on having more than one drink each, and depending on which state you live in, you may be able to take the rest of the bottle home if you don't finish it.

It is taxes, partially, but…

It is taxes, partially, but way more than that too.

1) Re: taxes: American alcohol products face luxury/vice taxes that European markets consider to be taxed at grocery rates.

2) France/Italy/Spain are the 3 largest wine producing countries in the world (US is #4), so by the  simple rules of supply and demand (even accounting for a relatively higher wine consumption compared with the US), and being close to the production (reduced transportation costs), "cheap" wine from these countries tends to be of a fairly decent quality.

3) And the big one: whereas most US winemakers are first generation, meaning they have a mortgage to pay for, and considering something like 90% of US wine production comes from California, where land is by no means affordable, "cheap" US wine tends to be mass market/industrial wine (think 2 buck chuck or carlo rossi jugs)- compare with most European wineries, where the land has been passed down generation to generation, with no mortgage to pay, "cheap" wines from these European wineries also tend to be of good quality compared to their cost.

Often times in Europe, you can just take a 5-gallon jug down to your grape farmer neighbor or down to your local villages cooperative to fill up when you need. It's just a totally different market and culture

I would love to see more…

I would love to see more sacks/pressure as the season goes on too, and:

1) I'm sure our starters sitting out the second half has an impact there, but I'd say losing Hutchinson and Ojabo, the best DE tandem M has ever had, is the real answer here.

2) It's hard to have a sense of scale/impact/magnitude with those percentages. Yes, more seems better, but how much of a difference is that 5.3%? Those numbers are nearly meaningless without context. The only context here is compared to last year's team and losing the aforementioned 2 first-rounders

Agree with you about the …

Agree with you about the (lack of) Strength of Schedule and the OL, especially pass protection, but disagree about our defense's pass rush- it's hard to get sacks when the ball is coming out as fast as it has due to fear of the pass rush.

Likewise, folks tend to use regardless and irregardless interchangeably, even tho the latter isn't typically considered a word in "formal" English* and forces my ears to cringe like nails on a chalkboard.

I prefer to say "dis-un-ir-regardless" to drive the point home

*Say what you want to say about the tenets of English as a language, but it is a highly flexible and adaptable language- the downside of which is it's awful to learn as a non-native/second language

Listen: strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

You can't expect to wield supreme executive power just 'cause some watery tart threw a sword at you!

I mean, if I went around saying I was emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

I hear what you're saying…

I hear what you're saying SRK, but not sure calling the cops is warranted here: 1) it's an escalation beyond what the situation merited. If it was your bar, sure, you might want some backup for when you kick them out. But as a fellow patron, that exceeds. 2) dropping N-bombs isn't against the law and overly taxes the police from performing their duties. If things started to look like violence was about to happen, sure, but sadly, being a racist isn't illegal

In my view, being a coward…

In my view, being a coward would have been saying nothing to management at all. Silence would have been cowardice. Proud of you for speaking up then and for sharing it here.

As you and other's have mentioned, confronting them directly could have resulted in a Dave Chapelle style "when keeping it real goes wrong." As Obi Wan says, "there are other ways to fight"

Sounds like y'all did the…

Sounds like y'all did the right thing. And those folks are assholes, obviously, but if the staff couldn't put their foot down after they had been warned and kicked them out, then they're evidently assholes, too. The banality of evil, and "good men doing nothing" and all.

If you really wanted to go down the rabbit hole, I might start with reaching out to the establishment on Monday (their quietest day of the week), seeing if you can speak with an owner (or get up as high as you can) to let them know what happened (if the owner wasn't there, I would hope they would want to know)

And if they don't immediately rectify the situation by firing their manager, apologizing publicly on their social medias, and making amends to comp some future meals or what have you, then that's when I would bomb them on all their yelp and google reviews, could contact the local paper that best covers the food/bar scene, etc. And I understand the effort it takes to go down that road, too.

Edit: Also, if you make it to the "bombing/scorched earth" phase, post it on your own social medias, if you feel comfortable, let that shit go viral and let the establishment feel that whiplash. Be sure to tag the establishment along with some local media outlets, it'll gain traction and their uppance will come.

Curious, what exactly did…

Curious, what exactly did you tell management? Just that they were saying what they were saying? I might have made it an either or proposition- tell management to either ask those folks to leave or that they'll lose your business for tolerating that bullshit.

To paraphrase Office Space and Michael Bolton, they're the assholes, you shouldn't have to leave

Edit: How did management react when you told them?
