Sharing Trolls Counts as Trolling: Sometimes desperately lazy outlets hire trolls, or trolls who are good at social media build enough of a following, that they become a headache for us, spreading hate or falsehoods. Because having them repeated on our site can directly harm us, if you're on the message board you should be aware that posting something from them could get you banned. They are:

  • SirYacht/Chat Sports/James Yoder - Fake news merchant who likes to make up plausible rumors or report non-sure things to get a false scoop.
  • Any local Spartan media when they talk about Michigan. Unless they're yelling "MAKE PLAYS!"
  • Pete Finebaum: FoxNews for SEC fans. Occasionally useful to them but the only times he's intersecting with us is when he's carrying Saban's water.
  • Rainer Sabin: Finebaum wannabe hired by the Freep to troll Michigan fans.
  • Steve Deace: Curiously well-funded white supremacist radio host who's got such a small Michigan following you can safely assume anyone posting positively about him is Deace and ban him again. Creates lots of burner accounts to promote himself. Recently booted by Maven for advocating lynching.
  • Barstool: People who took the freedom of young internet too seriously because really what they wanted to do the whole time was propagate bad ideas.

WHY DO YOU MODERATE...

  1. Anything? Freedom of speech doesn't imbue what you say with any quality, just like the freedom to invent a machine doesn't mean everyone has to buy it, or that every market has to let you display it. MGoBlog is a business, not a public institution; people come here for a high-quality ideas market about Michigan athletics. If you put out a bad apple, it gets tossed. If you do it constantly, you lose your stand.
     
  2. Politics. Don’t you get enough of this everywhere else?
     
  3. Unpopular ideas. Moderators are given the primary instruction: DO NOT CENSOR IDEAS. But some ideas are so tiresome and retread and badly argued that they’re not worth keeping around. If you’re getting a substantial amount of downvotes we’ll look to see if you’re posting an unpopular opinion that you can support. If you can’t support it politely and rationally, or if you don’t acknowledge the holes in your argument, it’s noise. Pro tip: if you're getting frustrated in a conversation, back off for a sec, find the BEST part of the argument of the other guy, acknowledge that's a good point, and try to pick it apart.
     
  4. Content from other sites. Clickbait is annoying. 247, WTKA always get the benefit of the doubt.
     
  5. The Drew Sharp Memorial Don’t Feed the Professional Trolls Rule. Pete Finebaum has taken the place of the late Sharp. Valenti is on there too. If someone's trolling Michigan fans, don't spread it.
     
  6. The ChatSports Rule. Given: a) The only person Yoder sources is Yoder, b) the only non-bot who follows Yoder is Yoder, and c) roughly 7.53 billion humans on Earth lucky enough to not be Yoder would be appalled if anyone thought they were Yoder, we can logically assume that anyone sharing a Yoder link must be Yoder, and we'll ban Yoder again. This also goes for that twitter account that makes up fake quotes and that one podcaster with ties to white supremacists who keeps trying to get his stuff posted here.
     
  7. Bewbs and general misogyny/objectifying of women. We have tens of thousands of female Michigan fans; don't make it suck for them.

Seth, by and large the moderators do a wonderful job here and dedicate a lot of time to keeping this board decent and clean. However, #7 is rarely enforced - less the banning of Kate Upton - and it would be a stretch to say this board is a place most women would find a chill place to hang out. Between the dude who posts the stanmarshsplooge.gif and similar gifs and the thousands of references to "six to midnight" and similar juvenile 'just being a guy' references nobody is enforcing #7 so why even keep it up?

Personally I do sometimes chuckle at stupid dick jokes but if we want this corner of the internet to be welcoming to female Michigan fans then maybe we should cool it on the constant references to hard-ons and ejaculating every time there's good recruiting news.

He's not a "patriot" by any legit definition I have ever seen.  But thank you 'SpamCityCentral', I just took a look and followed that up with an inspection of his prior posts. Yeesh!

After seeing all the ill-advised punches I found when looking at his posting history, 'WoodyBlue' goes the way of his namesake.  He would have been banned three weeks ago if I had seen something of his nonsense linked/posted to the mod sticky thread earlier.

Also a warning ⚠️ given to ​​​​​'Michigan4Harbaugh'.  When I followed WB's posting trail, I noticed a number of posts by M4H spreading COVID misinformation. (Edit @ 11:45 am:  After an even deeper dive into M4H's posting history, he's gone too.)

The PSA: At Home COVID Test thread has some of the same old boring misinformation about comorbidities and comparing Covid to the common cold and flu. This time it's even debunked right in the thread. Unsurprisingly, it's MeanJoe7 and evenyoubrutus doing it.

Of course, I'm surprised that MeanJoe7 survived calling someone a "tranny" on 1/11 at 4:25 PM to go along with some other pretty awful bigotry.

It's a post about COVID where people were discussing COVID. I only responded to other posts. I highlighted the seriousness of Covid and my bottom line was that you should always discuss your health and personal risk level/situation with a doctor. it was more reasonable than most posts in that thread. Ive had 3 family members die from COVID so I understand it's severity quite well and I don't take it lightly. I AM in fact TRANS. I don't recall the context of the tranny comment, but you may be making some assumptions around my use of the term and reaching a bit to get me banned. A glance at your own history shows unnecessary/argumentative references to politics and COVID quite often. I will accept the mom's decision, but I would like to appeal. I think the good I've contributed to the blog over 10+ years outweighs the bad and my membership has been a net positive.

Not sure if this is Mod Action or just Meta, but the diDNA autoplay ads with audio on are out of control. I intentionally don't use an adblocker on this site and those are getting extremely annoying. I really don't need to hear ads about cacti and trolls buying new homes every time I click to a new page.

Just a heads up, but the mobile interface is almost unusable the past week or two with display ads/google search with display network opt-in ads covering 60% of the screen. They were always there, but lately the amount of real estate they take up on the page is alarming. Occasionally, ads take up 80-90% of the screen as well.

This isn't worthy of its own thread, but I'm not sure where else to post that there have recently been sound-on 300x250 video ads running rotationally on the site, tagged didna.

This isn't a complaint about the site being ad supported, and I have no intention of turning on an ad blocker. Simply hoping that there's an easy fix through your SSP, whether it's ensuring that autoplay video with sound isn't enabled, or by blocking the demand source that's running these ads. I doubt that your ad yield would be meaningfully impacted in either case.

I get why I was sent to Bolivia, but in my defense, Ive been a member since 2012ish. I've donated to the site and supported it through thick and thin. I've contributed some good posts over the years and rode the ups and downs of Michigan fandom with that username and picture that another member made for me.  Some might consider me a regular and some of the stodgier might hate me. I joke around and write some drunken Koalaman nonsense for sure and push the boundaries on occasion but I think I've stayed within the parameters set by the moms by and large. I get my opinions and sense of humor aren't for everyone (I think some may not get the inside jokes I have with other members) so I'll respect your decision if it's final, but being banned for commenting about COVID in a thread about COVID (that IMHO probably should have been locked immediately bc what did you expect?) seems harsh given the comments and gifs/images I see left standing quite often. You guys def have a tough job though so no hard feelings either way. -MJ

You do not need to bow to these mods, you are free to express yourself how you please. There is a clear agenda on this site and it has become political, no longer athletics related. I sincerely appreciate the vote of support. Idk about liberal agendas (left vs. right) and all that stuff. Politics sucks the joy out of everything so I try to not to dive into those dichotomies. Lots of my posts are playful trolling in jest and tongue in cheek sort of stuff which probably turns off people who keep it a bit more serious online. Even my serious stuff is me playing a role or persona to highlight the silliness of arguing online with strangers you'll never convince (bc your a stranger online to them). Shop Smart took it hook like and sinker. He's a serious person that's fine. I'm not, that's why I'm a Koala. It's insane. This might be my only honest "naked" post. It's all good either way and I do love this Blog. Best wishes. I'm glad I could amuse you. That's what I was going for! People are too serious.

I agree.  I'm a 62 year old white, business owning, gun owning died-in-the-wool conservative who's vax'd, boosted and has had Covid (mild).  Viruses dont have a political party, vaccines dont vote and anyone who turns down the vaccine "to own the libs" is a first class idiot.

According the AMA 98.4% of physicians have been vaccinated.  If the guys who absolutely know a LOT more about the human body, viruses and our immune system than boobs on Facebook do are taking it what more proof do you need?  And when you look at the hospital ERs (I work in medicine) they arent filled with vaccinate people - it's the freedom fighters who are dying.

There.  That might be the first, and only, comment I make on Covid.  Let's go back to posting Harbaugh rumors and innuendo.
