Bringing the Wolverine back to apparel
Yes, another apparel thread. Yes, another mascot thread.
There has slowly been a return of officially licensed apparel using different wolverine logos over the last several years, however if you go to fanatics and see the newest shirt arrivals you will see most of the new items include a wolverine on them. This may just be a way to drive sales by offering something different during the adidas->nike transition. Maybe Michigan is still considering the mascot idea that DB talked about. Kids love mascots, I've never understood why Michigan thinks they are above that. Maybe Harbaugh and his kids will get it done.
Do you like these, would you buy them? The first one has been used a lot, the other 3 not so much. Should they start using the Wolverine on alternates? Do you think this has anything to do with a potential mascot?

If you follow that message board thread through he reaches a better final product.
One of the AAAHA hockey teams uses it. I just hope they paid for it because it's great work and would be a bummer if it just got jacked from the internet without his knowledge.

Good call. Thanks.
...dunno why I noticed that or if anyone agrees. It's been a long day. I really shouldn't be on the computer anyway.

I don't know how offended a wolverine gets over being stared at, but I do agree that would be really cruel.
I always thought LSU's tiger enclosure was awesome, but I don't know where you could put one near Michigan Stadium or if enough wolverines need to be rescued to justify building it in the first place.

Completely agree. Forcing a wild animal to live its life in a cage for our amusement is a huge turn off.
That would scare the shit of 115K - could you imagine the rush out of the stadium? It would be like this (at the 2:08 mark): http://youtu.be/_eyss6tDHz8
I was with you until you started arguing for a mascot. Why do we need some idiot walking around in a furry costume? We have one of the biggest fanbases in the country despite the "handicap" of no mascot.
BTW, Brandon did float a mascot trial balloon and it failed miserably.
out of the way first: I just upvoted this thread because it's about Michigan and the Wolverine logos that have been used at various times over the years, and not about Nike or Addidas or UA, especially NOT about the crap being trotted out as apparel/uniformz for our rivals.
I like all 4 designs on those shirts mainly because of the history involved, because they have been used in times past to represent Michigan. Have a shirt with the first design, a framed poster with the 2nd design, and am familiar with the other two less common designs (the 3rd one, I believe, dates from waaaay back).
But a cartoonish Mascot in Michigan Stadiium? uhh...NO!!!
The more wolverines the better, I guess, but no mascot. Unless it is a real, caged wolverine with meatstuffed Spartan and Buckeye dolls to tear to shreds during halftime.

Like one and two, don't like four, want to see three with the "Michigan" from four.

the Wolverine is an awesome animal, no reason not to include it on apparel.

Not a fan of these for the most part; I'm of the view that the Block M stands strong enough on its own.
However, I do like the second one, but I would never wear it to a Michigan event, more just around the town.

I do enjoy some of the Wolverine images on apparel, esp. the kitschy old-timey sailor hat Wolverine.
Not sure why that would be connected to wanting an idiot in a dumb outfit wandering around the Stadium. Although I have enjoyed readng the near-universal disdain for that idea on this thread. Our no-mascot policy is a rare distinctive in an age of homogenization, and I love seeing people get passionate about it!

My 8yr old has flown back with us for a handful of MICHIGAN games over the past few years and has never asked where the mascot is .....
He does, however, like the Broncos mascot Miles ...the Nuggets mascot Rocky (might be the best mascot in the business) and whatever the Avalanche mascot is, some St Bernard-like dog.
He hates Brutus Buckeye and says he looks "stupid"
I get those who don't want a mascot. I don't care. But if we had one it would just simply have tons the best. It would need to put the leprechaun, sparty , Brutus, Pete, the duck and all others to shame.
put on these t-shirts. It just permits them to use Michigan's trademarks in exhange for a 10 percent royalty.
The fact that someone likes a wolverine on a t-shirt has nothing to do with whether UM is considering a mascot.
Seeing as how none of these are made by Adidas, it has nothing to do with Nike.

In regards to the Michigan logo, the Block M is perfect as is. If you need to have a Wolverine mascot logo, I would save it only for vintage apparel like t-shirts and hats. Check out this Michigan cup I found at my wife's families lake house from a set of vintage, 1970's Big Ten cups. It's both awesome and brutal.
