On brand MSU cheap shots
So, in the second half with the game out of hand, MSU had:
1. Targeting to the back of the head of a Michigan player lying on the ground (does this deserve a multiple game suspension)?
2. Late hit for throwing Corum to the ground five yards out of bounds
3. Unnecessary roughness penalty with 30 seconds left in the game (didn't see this one, think NBC covered it up)
4. Facemask (will give the player the benefit of the doubt that this wasn't intentional)
Meanwhile, Michigan had it's own personal fouls but they looked like:
1. El-Hadi falls to the ground while blocking, MSU DL trips over El-Hadi's legs as he lies flat on the ground
2. Franklin throws a downfield block as Tuttle scrambles, Franklin had his back to the play and didn't know Tuttle had gone out of bounds
3. Waller runs into the QB as the QB simultaneously lands his first foot out of bounds after Waller made a very obvious attempt to pull up and avoid contact
Did I miss anything?

The targeting of McGregor laying face down on the grass was deplorable. Absolutely deserves additional suspension. Of course it's MSU and the NCAA, so we'll probably get dinged again for some ticky tacky bullshit instead.
October 22nd, 2023 at 12:11 AM ^
The NCAA has announced that they’re investigating Michigan for telekinetically pulling opposing players headfirst into the backs of their helmets
October 22nd, 2023 at 1:24 AM ^
The NCAA will launch a full scale investigation on McGregor to find out what he did to make the MSU player so angry.

It was the tunnels fault!
October 21st, 2023 at 11:51 PM ^
That dive at the back of the neck was bad. Really bad. The corum tackle wasn't that bad
October 22nd, 2023 at 12:04 AM ^
That could end someone's career. That's a lot of weight and force coming down. Extremely sickening to see that shit. Dude needs kicked off the team.
October 22nd, 2023 at 8:34 AM ^
Suspended, sure. Kicked off the team? That’s ridiculous.
October 22nd, 2023 at 9:24 AM ^
I disagree. It was was clearly intended to cause harm. There are football plays and there is assault. This was the latter.
October 21st, 2023 at 11:52 PM ^
But what about the signs?
October 21st, 2023 at 11:53 PM ^
McBurrows overcame the ultimate cheap shot from last year and had himself a GAME. That’s what I want to focus on.
October 22nd, 2023 at 12:06 AM ^
Pissed that they didn't call this what it was--assault
October 22nd, 2023 at 12:24 AM ^
That’s exactly what I said right after they replayed it. Off the field that”s what it would have been!
October 22nd, 2023 at 12:26 AM ^
surprised they didn't call it "shenanigans"
October 22nd, 2023 at 12:34 AM ^
Tomfoolery
October 22nd, 2023 at 1:32 AM ^
Youthful hijinks.
October 22nd, 2023 at 9:39 AM ^
Sparty's shenanigans are cruel and tragic...
October 22nd, 2023 at 1:34 AM ^
Except in the section where they gave it the most lip service when the sideline reporter talked about it they did call it an assault...finally.
October 22nd, 2023 at 12:08 AM ^
After getting some well deserved accolades during the post-game on-field interview, he skipped off into the tunnel (NTT). Good times.
October 22nd, 2023 at 12:11 AM ^
Username and all that stuff
October 22nd, 2023 at 8:03 AM ^
My cheeks are still a little numb from how long I smiled after his pick. I probably smiled all through the night like a cartoon kid waiting for Christmas morning.
Then to see Sainristil shut his interview down to go grab him and give him props? Only thing this team has stolen is my heart (cheesy music begins to play).

El- hadi was a definite trip/ leg whip.
Franklin one was extremely ticky tack
Waller one was borderline but they were in call everything mode
October 22nd, 2023 at 12:00 AM ^
Looked to me like El-Hadi lied still.
it was in Dunlap not Franklin, but still iffy.
Agree on Waller call. In an ordinary game that’s incidental running into each other.
October 22nd, 2023 at 12:06 AM ^
I don't blame them for calling the game tight given what happened last year.
October 22nd, 2023 at 2:59 PM ^
This was probably one of the better officiated games in recent memory.
October 22nd, 2023 at 7:20 AM ^
Yeah El-Hadi was absolutely a penalty. He got yanked the next play too. I'm not an expert of the finer things related to Oline play, but that looked like a lazy play to me and an obvious call.
Waller tried to pull up and it was certainly not intentional, but I think they had to call that penalty either way.
October 22nd, 2023 at 8:01 AM ^
Agreed.
Waller, no matter that he tried to pull up, still forcefully contacted a guy well out of bounds and sent him flying. Intention or not, that's a penalty every time
October 21st, 2023 at 11:53 PM ^
I thought the El Hadi call was fair; looked like a little bit of a leg whip to me
The other calls against us were legit but didn’t look like nasty intent
but they had theirs - especially the head spike into McGregor
and they end up with more ejections than points
October 22nd, 2023 at 12:17 AM ^
Can we call that an ejection Rutger? Or maybe Rutgers, for all their faults, don't deserve to be associated with that...
October 22nd, 2023 at 12:26 AM ^
Maybe a “spartan”?
October 22nd, 2023 at 1:04 AM ^
In the main game thread, I proposed that having more penalty yards than offensive yards be referred to as a sparty.
They finished with a rushing sparty. They had a passing sparty going, but managed to avoid it and the ever-elusive overall offensive sparty.
October 21st, 2023 at 11:55 PM ^
#3 was definitely deserved
October 21st, 2023 at 11:59 PM ^
I had a few Alamo’s, but I think Cam Goode got one too.
October 22nd, 2023 at 12:50 PM ^
You're my new favorite thing in the world!
October 22nd, 2023 at 12:01 AM ^
I see what the OP is getting at but other than the egregious helmet-to-helmet hit to the back of McGregor, I think it was a plenty clean game except for a scuffle here or there.
It’s going to take a few years to get the tunnel stuff out of the system but this was a positive step forward to move on.
Also 49-0 helps.
October 22nd, 2023 at 4:56 AM ^
This. Things being where they are, I was worried about much worse. After 10 or so minutes of game tine, I just didn't want to see anything crazy from either school.
October 22nd, 2023 at 12:02 AM ^
I was confused over the flag on Franklin. Did they expect him to have eyes on the back of his head to see Tuttle go out of bounds?
October 22nd, 2023 at 1:40 AM ^
Only a penalty if the whistle had blown!
October 22nd, 2023 at 3:26 AM ^
It hadn't. So baffling.
October 22nd, 2023 at 12:23 AM ^
I’m actually taking a shit reading this and LOL’ed.
October 22nd, 2023 at 12:10 AM ^
msu had no “Spartans will” by halftime
if the game was closer I think it would have been worse
October 22nd, 2023 at 12:35 AM ^
Spartan Swill
October 22nd, 2023 at 12:12 AM ^
It’s not that bad. I thought this was a clean game
October 22nd, 2023 at 12:53 AM ^
Me too.
October 22nd, 2023 at 1:41 AM ^
Yep. Me three! With the obvious 1 exception they were kids trying to make plays.
October 22nd, 2023 at 1:03 AM ^
The only one I'm pissed about is Brown slamming McGregor on the turf, that was total bullshit.
October 22nd, 2023 at 12:17 AM ^
Good list MechE, but the tripping call on El-Hadi was legit. It was a trip.
And the Dunlap late block, I don't mind that at all, keep that guy away from Tuttle. Fifteen yards, yeah, but I think you'd rather have him err on the side of protecting the QB.
I was glad the refs tossed the douche that tried to spear McGregor's neck. Should be additional games as well.
October 22nd, 2023 at 12:21 AM ^
Washington will prob win - but trailing 1-5 ASU at half with two picks not a good Heisman look for Penix. JJ will be moving up the board after today w lots of football to play.
October 22nd, 2023 at 3:28 AM ^
Washington at HOME would have lost had ASU not devilled themselves into a pick 6 and forgot how to kick an oblong leather object 35 yards or less, multiple times, with 50% or greater accuracy.
