On brand MSU cheap shots

Submitted by MechE on October 21st, 2023 at 11:48 PM

So, in the second half with the game out of hand, MSU had:

1. Targeting to the back of the head of a Michigan player lying on the ground (does this deserve a multiple game suspension)?

2. Late hit for throwing Corum to the ground five yards out of bounds

3. Unnecessary roughness penalty with 30 seconds left in the game (didn't see this one, think NBC covered it up)

4. Facemask (will give the player the benefit of the doubt that this wasn't intentional)

Meanwhile, Michigan had it's own personal fouls but they looked like:

1. El-Hadi falls to the ground while blocking, MSU DL trips over El-Hadi's legs as he lies flat on the ground

2. Franklin throws a downfield block as Tuttle scrambles, Franklin had his back to the play and didn't know Tuttle had gone out of bounds

3. Waller runs into the QB as the QB simultaneously lands his first foot out of bounds after Waller made a very obvious attempt to pull up and avoid contact

Did I miss anything?

The targeting of McGregor laying face down on the grass was deplorable. Absolutely deserves additional suspension. Of course it's MSU and the NCAA, so we'll probably get dinged again for some ticky tacky bullshit instead.

My cheeks are still a little numb from how long I smiled after his pick. I probably smiled all through the night like a cartoon kid waiting for Christmas morning.

Then to see Sainristil shut his interview down to go grab him and give him props?  Only thing this team has stolen is my heart (cheesy music begins to play).

Yeah El-Hadi was absolutely a penalty.  He got yanked the next play too.  I'm not an expert of the finer things related to Oline play, but that looked like a lazy play to me and an obvious call.

Waller tried to pull up and it was certainly not intentional, but I think they had to call that penalty either way.

I thought the El Hadi call was fair; looked like a little bit of a leg whip to me

The other calls against us were legit but didn’t look like nasty intent

but they had theirs - especially the head spike into McGregor

and they end up with more ejections than points

I see what the OP is getting at but other than the egregious helmet-to-helmet hit to the back of McGregor, I think it was a plenty clean game except for a scuffle here or there.

It’s going to take a few years to get the tunnel stuff out of the system but this was a positive step forward to move on.

Also 49-0 helps.

Good list MechE, but the tripping call on El-Hadi was legit. It was a trip.

And the Dunlap late block, I don't mind that at all, keep that guy away from Tuttle. Fifteen yards, yeah, but I think you'd rather have him err on the side of protecting the QB.

I was glad the refs tossed the douche that tried to spear McGregor's neck. Should be additional games as well.

Washington will prob win - but trailing 1-5 ASU at half with two picks not a good Heisman look for Penix.  JJ will be moving up the board after today w lots of football to play.
