Aubrey Dawkins 5-Point Dunk

Submitted by Tate on

I wonder what his ORtg on Kenpom would be if this were legal.

Embed is in the first comment below, I always have trouble getting it in the OP.

I'm going to make a bold predction.  We will be better at the basketballs this season than this past season.  Assuming everyone stays healthy *fingers crossed*.

I know you were setting a low bar there, but even if (god forbid, shutting my damn mouth) Caris and DW were sidelined (and Spike was "limited") this team will still be much, much better than last year.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's not legal.  The opposing team has to inbound the ball after a made basket, so I'm not sure why he's spending his time practicing plays that are against the rules.

he even mentions the other player in the tweet. Louisville recruit Donovan Mitchell did this a few days ago and made Sportscenter so now I guess other players are doing it. Mitchell also posted a clip of Kentucky recruit Isaiah Briscoe not knowing what an adjective, which was pretty funny and got news attention yesterday.

Here is Donovan Mitchell's version on Instagram - LINK

At 5'9'' and considerably less athletic than that, I am pretty sure my attempt would end up being about a half-point dead run into the backboard support. That ball would come out of it unscathed, I am sure.

That being said, awesome dunk indeed.

He is probably the most athletic player on the team, and is the best shooter we have seen ( Robinson reportedly beat Stauskas's shooting drill record). Dawkins shot 48% in Big Ten games. In his last 7 or 8 games he was averaging around 18ppg.

If Dawkins can improve his ability to get to the rim next year, he could be a 20 ppg scorer. The only thing holding him back from achieving that would be the fact that we won't be dependent on him due to Irvin and LeVert.

I am very optimistic about Aubrey. I am confident that Beilein will help him develop the ball handling skills necessary to become elite at getting to the rim. I'd be absolutely shocked if Dawkins doesn't end up in the NBA.

The most amazing thing is that he can slow himself down mid air, the ball as well, then speed things back up. That has got to come in handy in games.

because of the ball going through the hoop first.  it is a nice touch, and i wonder if it was intentional.   back in the day i/we would dunk similarly, but by bouncing the ball either off the back board, or as we got better at it, making a big bounce off the floor, up the the back board, then grabbing the ball in the air and stuffing it.

i think my kids still have some pics somewhere - the problem is that the photos are old enough that they are curling up old color photos, long before the digital age.  i'd be nervous about trying that now.  haven't played a game of hoops in over a decade.

Remains to be seen how he'll ultimately look against the competition next year, but if last year and this summer's Camp Sanderson are any indication, Dawkins could be the next man in a long line of Beilein's diamonds in the rough.

Praying that everyone stays healthy next year. The team has a ton of playing experience across the board, and everyone will get that much better because of it. Just need to avoid injuries like the plague.
