Any news on McDowell?

This is a strange situation. Some rumblings he may come to Michigan.

over the last week according to a "source" that those mods know. Everyone seems to be keeping cool on it since I am pretty sure nobody except the family really knows anything and this has been way too much drama for most of the fanbase with McDowell being in, out, a lock, gone, maybe here, to committed elsewhere. Fair question to ask by the OP if the OP was reading any of that speculation.

The only thing worse than that ONE picture of ONE person mispelling "State" when vandalizing, probably while spraypainting drunk in the dark, is that Michigan fans Will. Not. Let. It. Go. Can we just drop this already? Or at least not feel the need to bring it out at EVERY opprotunity?

It's what the young people call a meme. It's like a "thing" that obtained popularity due to its relative hilarity and how this easily connects to the Sparty fanbase. It's easy to imagine Sparties painting that.

It's funny because it's real. It's not like some made up derision like Sparty calling M fans "Walverines" or "ScUM". Some Sparty fans actually did that. They earned the "Staee" moniker.

Now get off my lawn.

I have been a lurking here for years. Never knew where the whole Bolivia thing came from.. I thought they were going far far away.  Count me informed Bolivia = Bolivian ≈ oblivious.  Count me back from Bolivia.

Many believed that photo captured the ethos of the MSU fanbase so perfectly that it must be remembered forever. Kind of like the V-J photo of the sailor kissing the nurse in Times Square captured the ethos of postwar America.

Actually, doesn't that just prove that the feelings evoked by an image can be more culturally important than the facts behind the image itself? Hence justifying the use of "STAEE"? That is, the picture perfectly captures the sense of larger situation, even if the literal event depicted was not particularly representative.

The flag-raising photo from Iwo Jima and the Eddie Adams picture of Nguyen Ngoc Loan executing a Viet Cong prisoner are other good examples.

She called all the Rivals people to report it because Scout wouldn't hold a press conference for her. Also, she wanted to announce the launch of her new book called "Parenting: You know what's best for your son in all circumstances." Chapter 1 was called "You do you girl even if your actions damage your son's reputation." Chapter 2 was called "How to extend your 15 minutes of fame." Chapter 3 was a comparative study of American universities finding Michigan State to be the only school in the country where shenanigans take place. I don't want to spoil the rest of the book, but the 1,684 page autobiography in Chapter 7 holds a special place in my heart.

But why are we quicker to accuse her of bad parenting and "extending her 15 minutes of fame" than we are to believe that she saw something during the recruiting process that made her want her son to go elsewhere? I think the situation has played out in an ugly fashion, but I empathize with her. She doesn't want her so to go to State for a reason. What seems to bother us is the lack of a "why". Its the same reason some of us hate the Fort and many of us see a conspiracy in the Gibbons case. But we're not entitles to this information. At least that's my opinion.

It obviously wasn't good.

I think people also realize that she hasn't had training in public relations. She is responding emotionally when she and her son are attacked. I can't blame her, but it's making things worse.

I don't see her as someone who is trying to embarrass her son. They are obviously close because he has stuck by her except for one brief period around National Signing Day.

I hope they get good advice and reach a solution that works for everyone.

Mom still does not like MSU, and she and Malik are trying to shore things up. She does not like the non-academic atmosphere at MSU and wants him to go somewhere else. It's still a fluid situation, and from everything I've heard, Michigan isn't totally out of it. They're also not going after him hard because he doesn't like hard sells and they don't want to turn him off.

At this point, is this a prospect we would want UM getting?  I mean, he's a legit 5-star physically true, and maybe this is just conformation bias, but prospects that jump around, don't sign on signing day, drama and family stuff that draw out this much...just seems they don't end up being the best for the team.

But until the young man is able to speak candidly and publicly for himself, I will try reserve judgment.  Admittedly, this won't be easy, especially considering his obvious affinity towards Staee.

It has been said on this board before -- family drama could potentially be due to no fault of his own.

Reading through some of the Jason Avant articles in the wake of Avant's release from the Eagles reminded me of the long journey these kids sometimes endure, from immature teenager to adult role model.  Only time will tell what path Malik chooses.

I know you're not equating the two, but we should keep in mind that Pryor chose to carry it out past NSD for _________________ (who knows?) reason. McDowell's situation is a little bit different in that he clearly wants to go to MSU, but his parents do not see eye to eye with him. If it were up to McDowell, this would all be over with and he wouldn't be garnering this much attention right now.
