Any chance Hackett becomes permanently AD?

Submitted by StoneRoses on
Sorry if this has been discussed already, but is it possible that Hackett remains as permanent AD? I wouldn't have any reservations if he could land a slam dunk hire (Harbaugh(s)). Happy Halloween - Discuss...

I never got the impression that he'd be interested in such a position. I think he's the right guy to take over for a month or two before handing over the reins to someone more qualified to run an athletic department.

I think Michigan has learned its lesson now with hiring former CEO's and business people with no AD experience.  I think Martin was OK, but the other two were definitely not.  This time, Michigan will get it right and hire someone who has a lot of experience running an athletic department.

Seems like a reasonably decent guy.

A question for you all is when was the last time Michigan hired another AD to lead its athletics department?  My memory goes back only to Joe Roberson, and he was an internal hire.  Has it ever happened?  Perhaps not.

He is interim, someone who can be trusted to watch over things while the search process is underway.  Apparently there must not have been anyone already working there who was able to step into this interim role.

at least in the AD that most of the people were Brandon hires.  I'd rather they bring someone in from the outside to be interim then just promote someone who was hired by Brandon.  Not saying that person would do a poor job but just that it's probably better to cut all ties. I'm guessing most of the people in the AD are probably getting their resume's updated and keeping an eye on other job openings.

Generally when a guy is fired... err, resigns the next guy is not the mirror image in terms of background.  We need people who have been in athletic administration in their background.  What will be interesting is what will be left of Dave's staff however.  He went on a massive hiring spree if I recall and got rid of a lot of the previous few administrations people.  So will Hackett be clearing some of that Brandon wood....

Hackett will not the be the permanent AD.  He is the interim for two reasons only; firing Hunter Lochmann and Brady Hoke.

Perhaps this is a sign in favor of Jeff Long, who probably does not want to terminate his best friend Brady Hoke from his dream job.

Bottom line is people who run businesses and ship jobs overseas or to other states aren't helping our economy. Why should I vote for a guy who doesn't give two shits about Detroit's economy and would rather ship jobs to China, Canada, or North Carolina. Maybe they're making more money but it doesn't change the fact that they don't give two shits about Michigan and people here lose their jobs becuase they want to make another million or two.

As CEO Hackett made some tough decisions, including firing people, and saved the company. That's EXACTLY what this football program needs: someone to save it by cleaning out the deadwood -- any remnants of the Carr cabal, any remnants of Brandon's corporate brown-nosing, and any remanants of Hoke's incompetence -- and spare the permanent AD from that unpleasantness so he can start fresh, the program can start fresh, and positive change can flourish.

Go Schlissel! Go Hackett! Go Blue!

No it doesn't. But if he's a businessman who's never been an AD before the results of him being a successful AD are about as good of odds as Brandon being a successful AD. We NEED an AD with a lot of experience and success, who knows what he's doing and how to run a large athletic department.

Ehh I doubt it. For all I know, Hackett is extremely qualified, but my guess is that his purpose is to keep whatever is left of this ship afloat for the next month, terminate Hoke, and get the ball rolling for bringing in whoever is going to reel Jim Harbaugh in.

Yes, I understand Harbaugh is still a long shot, but let me dream.

...he is there to help hire a good AD.  Schlissel, while brilliant, knows nothing of big-time athletics and only a little more about Michigan Athletics.  He's bringing in a guy who can help him get this hire right.

I believe this team will do that.  Here is my favorite quote of the entire presser, from Hackett:

"The University is here for students. They're not just temporary residents of the Big House, but rather it's their house. We are first here for them."

Hackett will begin the search for a new AD, fire Hoke, hire new AD, new AD will hire a new head coach, then step aside and leave us watching hype videos and classic games until next season.

I hope Hackett changes his mind, wants the AD job, and gets it.  The faculty who brain-washed the students into doing their political business, and the left-wing press who never liked Brandon in the first place (which includes Brian, the guy who runs this site) will have a stroke.  Oh the bitter irony.  Get a republican, and successful CEO fired from the AD job, only  to be replaced by an equally successful CEO republican.  Anyone think Brian and his left-wing wife would jump off an over-pass, or simply give up and retreat from society?

Fortunately, Ranger's special shiny helmet made him impervious to the faculty's brain-washing techniques.

But will he be able to get The Truth out before the left-wing press silences him?

And wait ... who was Brian again?

Tune in next week for the answers to these and other important questions in our next episode of "Lefties ... Lefties Everywhere!", sponsored by Chobani.

...before the OSU game (or let Hoke announce it will be his last game), and then hire the new coach.  Depending on how all of that goes down, UofM will either remove the "interim" from Hackett's title or begin a search for a new AD.  That's my prediction.

Re everyone's obsession with the need to hire an AD with previous AD experience, what about Don Canham?  He was arguably UofM's best AD and he had no preious AD experience.
