Aren't TROs reserved for…

Aren't TROs reserved for things that can't be made whole by a monetary award?

I've seen a lot of arguments that Michigan should win a case, and I tend to agree but why can't the Big Ten's bad behavior be remedied with $100 million or some other enormous number?

It's probably obvious I'm not a lawyer, this is an honest question.

I have no recollection of…

I have no recollection of anyone named "Stewart" having a "moment." It's childhood trauma repressed memory week at my therapist starting Monday; is this something I should bring up? I'm thinking no? 🤔

I was going to log in just…

I was going to log in just to suggest a Honda engine but you've already done it.

My Honda powered PW didn't start this spring. The only thing on the engine not made by Honda is the spark plug so I immediately identified it as the culprit. After a meeting with the wire wheel the plug agreed to spark again and I was back to cleaning whatever the hell I wanted.😄

I cannot think of a road in…

I cannot think of a road in Ann Arbor that takes longer to navigate after a major design change than it did prior to the change. And though I haven't seen data I suspect every road that has changed has become safer.

The city has a stated goal of zero pedestrian deaths. They aren't there yet and maybe all their solutions won't work - I can think of one sidewalk project that was counterproductive - but it's a worthy goal and should be pursued. For those who might think it's not possible I point to the American airline industry.

There are functionally zero deaths from airline crashes. It happens but we're to the point where a couple near accidents cause panic and consternation.

That's how those streets are…

That's how those streets are supposed to work. They are two ways streets with one vehicle lane and two bike lanes. When there is only traffic one way you drive in the middle of the road, when there is traffic going both ways you take the bicycle lane if there's no bike there. They're supposed to force people to pay attention and slow down. I don't know if they actually do that.

If a player knows he will be…

If a player knows he will be pulled if he gets a second foul in the first half wouldn't he play "tentatively" because he's in defacto foul trouble?

If "attacking" a player in foul trouble is good strategy shouldn't opposing coaches attack any player with one foul in the first half?

If I were a coach I'd make sure my players knew they would not be pulled because of the number of fouls they have accrued. That seems to solve both of Beilein's points.

This coaching convention is baffling to me.

In a comparable situation I…

In a comparable situation I found the advice of a child psychologist useful. They are professionals who deal with situations like this all the time. You won't get legal advice, but in my opinion, that isn't something that needs to be addressed immediately anyway.

You can get a referral from your child's pediatrician and could probably get a phone conversation within a day or two. Where you go from there depends on your specific situation.

I saw a short piece on TV…

I saw a short piece on TV that suggested four "Ms" of good mental.

Move: Exercise. This is a big one for me, I usually run but also row on a machine and lift weights. It takes me away from the kids for a while and makes me feel better in more ways than I can explain here.

Meaningful Interaction: Be social. This means expanding your interactions to people outside of your house. Zoom has made this easier. I also have a continuing text thread with four neighborhood friends.

Mastery: Do something you are good at or would like to be good at. For me it's guitar, which I would like to be good at.

Mindfulness: Do something that clears your head. Some people meditate. This is the step I'm currently neglecting.

It sounds like isolation is going to continue for a long time. That sounds dreadful to some but if you use the time for real change in habits you might be able to use the time to develop real life changing habits.

The ump cam is really cool…

The ump cam is really cool. It shows the pitch/swing timing much better than the traditional center field camera does. I think the center field camera does a better job of showing the strike zone though. That might be because I'm more used to that perspective I suppose.

The past two years Costco has sold a white canopy with four walls for $200. The material is thick and the frame appears to be be more durable than other cheaper canopy's I've owned. We put a patio heater inside and stay toasty warm.

If Costco has them again this year it will be in the spring when the summer displays are set up. That doesn't do you much good for Christmas but it's an option.

My three year old has been to two games. She made it to halftime last year and through the third quarter this year. I taught her The Victors before the game so she was ready to clap and sing when it was played. Singing and clapping were her biggest interest, followed by watching beach balls in the croud and eating snacks she would never get at home.

Game Theory

If you are planning on going for it on fourth down doesn't that open the playbook on third down? E.g. third and six would make the entire playbook available instead of only passing plays and the occasional draw play.

I'm a professional pilot and don't fly single engine airplanes due to the risk to my career and my life. They aren't inherently unsafe but the risk/reward isn't worth it to me.

You are correct that you are much safer in an airliner than a passenger car. You might be Jeff Gordon but half of the other maniacs on the road are too busy Snap chatting to pay attention to where their two ton missile is heading.

Do not plug a TV or any other

Do not plug a TV or any other electronics you like into this generator. The voltage is unregulated so lulls and serges can occur which makes sensitive electronics susceptible to damage.

This generator is fine for power tools, a vacuum cleaner, etc. but not for more sensitive things.

Also, please consider others around you when you run a generator or vehicle at a tailgate. I had a bad experience several years involving someone who decided it was a good idea to run his truck continously while blasting Van Halen. The exhaust was bad enough, "Panama" at "eleven" was just torture.

Holy shit!

I was half way through a post facetiously making fun of the lack of hanger organization when I realized they are completely organized. Blue shirts on maize hangers, other colors on blue hangers...I have nothing.

That's what the kids like so it's good.

I've bought a zipper sweatshirt, a replica football jersey for my toddler, and a replica away jersey for me. The white zipper of my sweatshirt has mysteriously turned pink but I can't blame Nike for that. The replica jerseys are okay though I haven't washed mine yet because I bought it after the season.

Android Auto is a really nice app that allows you to call, text, navigate, play audio, among other things using voice recognition. It's available in some cars and as a stand alone app.

I'm sure there are other similar apps but Android Auto is what I'm familiar with and what I use.

Fleck used Row the Boat to make WMU relevant. I have no I'll will toward him. I also have no apparel with "Row the Boat" on it but that's because I'm old and prefer Brown and Gold WMU stuff which is hard to come by these days.
Lester played when the colors were Brown and Gold so maybe he'll bring it back.

Agreed on jobs. I don't know

Agreed on jobs. I don't know what the answer is though. There will be a market for autonomous vehicles so they are coming.

I fly airplanes for a living. Autonomous airplanes are coming too. I'm hoping they arrive the day after I (voluntarily) retire. In the mean time I'm saving my pennies.

Your police state comparison

Your police state comparison is a non sequitur. You have no inherent right to pilot a vehicle on a public road. You do have an inherent right to liberty and due process.

In a future with driverless Uber you don't need to own a car so you don't need insurance. Autonomous cars would cause such a small amount of injury and property damage that Uber could self-insure and certainly would choose to do so because it would be in their financial interest.

Traffic deaths increased 8% year over year in 2015 which was the largest percentage increase in 50 years and though full data isn't in for 2016 the trend is expected to continue. Drivers aren't getting less distracted.

Eligibility rules say you

Eligibility rules say you have five years to play four seasons. I'm sure there are other stipulations but on the face there is no consideration for age one way or the other.

I find it interesting who is and isn't protected in this country so I've read a little about it but I'm no lawyer. I'll leave it at that since it's way off topic and that's a rabbit hole that we don't need to go down.

My overall point is that while there are certainly issues with negotiating with talent that don't presently exist none outweigh the player's right to negotiate for what they can get. It's pretty clear at this point that there are a class of collegiate athletes who aren't "amateur", I say drop the pretense and work on a system that is fair.

I went to school in Kalamazoo and Bell's Oberon was my introduction to craft beer. I rarely drink the same beer twice in a row nowadays so I don't drink it often but my stuck on a desert island beer is still Two Hearted Ale. It still holds up to the best IPAs anywhere in the world.

Fully autonomous is the moral and efficient way to go

Right now there are 30,000+ traffic deaths in the United States every year. It is estimated that autonomous vehicles could prevent 90%+ of those deaths. That alone is reason enough to justify a fully autonomous future but the benefits are far greater than that.

Injuries and property damage would be massively reduced to a point that car insurance would only be necessary for acts of God like when a branch falls in a wind storm. Auto manufactures/transportation companies could self insure, the cost would be baked into the price.

Right now cars sit for something like 95% of their lives. In an autonomous car world the justification for owning a car becomes purely emotional for all but the most rural people. Why have a car wasting space in your garage/driveway/street when you can dial up Uber on demand. Autonomous Uber becomes much more desirable when the cost of drivers and insurance is practically eliminated. As a bonus, autonomous cars never get tired or burned out so they'd be available any time day or night. I'd love to take a car service to work and not have to worry about parking. Imagine how easy it would be to get around a big city if there weren't cars parked on every street. That space could be used for more auto/cycle/pedestrian traffic.

The case for autonomous cars is too good to be slowed down by fear of robots or the belief that humans should drive. Humans have only been driving for about 120 years and we've never really gotten very good at it. Cars were a placeholder between horses and computers. For those who still want to drive tracks will be available as long as there is a market for them.

Federal age discrimination

Federal age discrimination law only applies to employees over the age of 40.

In my opinion, discussing the unintended consequences of paying players is missing the point. NCAA athletics is the only venture in this country that gets away without negotiating with it's talent. If every other industry can figure it out I think NCAA schools will manage as well.

Napa is a great but expensive

Napa is a great but expensive way to learn about wine. Local tastings are the best way to go if you can find them.

Before my wife and I were married there was a wine shop near here apartment in Columbus which had tastings every Friday and Saturday nights. For $7-$9 you could taste five or six wines and often people would buy something and share it with whomever was there. We learned far more about what we liked from those sessions than we ever would have had we bought a bottle and drank it at home.

Another option is to host a wine tasting group weekly or monthly. If you can put together a fun group of people who want to learn about wine and have everyone bring a different bottle each meeting you will learn what you like quickly. The key is tasting different wines next to each other.

I'm partial to big, earthy, dry wines from Mendecino, Sonoma, and Napa. My wife has been pregnant or breast feeding for the past three years so I've been primarily on beer. I've lost most of the knowledge I had but that's a good excuse to go back to Napa.

I believe that to be true.

According to the hyperlink in the first sentence the WMU Board of Trustees owns the "Row the Boat" trademark. I doubt it's for sale.

They may have an agenda but

They may have an agenda but it's not to make the crew look good. They also have no incentive to tell the fans what they want to hear.

You hit on another point though. The fact that individual conferences select and assign officials isn't a good look. At minimum the process should be more transparent (release official grades, place higher scoring refs in high profile games, etc.), better yet officials should be managed by a third party.

Centralized replay

Centralized replay by officials who specialize in it makes sense for a lot of reasons. The screens could be much bigger, the environment would be a quiet room instead of a loud stadium, the officials making the replay call have no interest other than getting the call right.

The last reason annoys me the most about the current system. We are asking referees to overturn calls guys on their crew or even they make. I have no doubt they want to get it right but the inherent conflict of interest looks bad. These guys share a dressing room o there is at least a little social pressure not to show up a fellow official.

Ball tracking is pretty

Ball tracking is pretty simple. You need three cameras with a known precise location with a view of the ball. It makes sense in tennis because the ball is always visible. The problem with using the technology in football is situations where it is needed rarely have good views of the ball.

An alternate tracking method is transponders embedded in the ball NASCAR style. I don't know what transponder locating technology looks like so can't comment on it's feasibility.
