the just released schedules were a flat-out statement that the B10 doesn't believe SOS will matter in playoff selection

- Stop throwing on the run.
- Provide some easy throws early—all hitch, snag—in an effort to get him calmed down.
- Develop some sort of counter-punch to the opponent getting all up in Denard's face on the rollout PA. A shovel pass?"

Kudos to RR for recognizing Denard's talent and giving him the chance to shine and leap into the record books and national spotlight.

Seems to me that alternate uniforms cost quite a lot. Money that could probably be better spent elsewhere. Oh yeah, but now that we're in the Big 14, we've got money to burn. Or did the need for these alternate uniforms necessitate expanding the league? Chicken or the egg? I dunno.
Change is not always good. I thought as Michigan, we were supposed to value traditions. I suppose greed could be considered a tradition. Brandon seems to think so.

I found this on the net last night:
"They are the winningest team in college football. Brady Hoke, their head coach, is the brother of John Hoke who was the defensive coordinator my last three years at Florida. I got to know Brady a little bit here and there. He's done a super job at Michigan the last couple years. I look forward to hanging around him and their coaches down there."

Hoke's Manball Machismo is dogma that's quickly losing its luster. (I get it that post-Rodriquez it was a good persona to project.) But the luster of positive change is becoming dull as is his tired explanations that the reason Al's boneheaded playcalling wasn't working is because of the lack of blocking execution. For someone who claims it's "all about the kids," he sure places a lot of blame on them instead of on the people really responsible -- Borges and himself. There's a fine line between being Old School and simply ignorant of -- maybe it's arrogance or stupidity -- the advances of modern football. Let's be clear, the decisions by these two men are the main reason for at least two games this year. It wasn't the O-line that didn't have Devin ready to step in during the Nebraska game.
So now we have a bowl game to look forward to. If last year's is any indication, we have more embarrassing and ineffective Borges playcalls in store. But don't worry, Brady can always blame the O-line...again.

That smudge of RR happens to include Denard Robinson who won the game for us. Our biggest asset, and most recent contributor to football history, is still the QB who RR discovered and gave a chance to. Respect the smudge, all ye smug "Michigan Men."

How does Meyer and Mattison working together at Florida give Meyer the advantage?
Seems to me, Mattison will know Meyer's tendencies and preferences equally well. If anything, Mattison moved on to the pros so probably picked up a few new wrinkles since his days with Meyer, whereas Meyer kept doing the same old thing -- less and less effectively.

I hope Meyer does go to OSU. I want Michigan and Hoke to beat the best they -- or anybody else -- have. You're measured by the people you beat. So bring it on.
|1 year 27 weeks ago||The reaction is not so much||
The reaction is not so much from the losses, but the way we lost both games, which were winnable if only last year's NCAA record-setter would have been allowed to do what he has proven he does best -- but he wasn't.
|1 year 27 weeks ago||I agree. He's bought into the||
I agree. He's bought into the hype -- spewed forth by Hoke and Borges -- that he can make it as a quarterback at the next level if he shows he can pass, but to do that he's sacrificing the aspect of his game that makes him an exceptional athlete. What could be an college career for the ages is being hijacked by a pie-in-the-sky notion with very long odds. The way things are going, Denard won't even make the NFL draft.
Very disheartening that the talent of such an outstanding student/athlete can't be fully utilized because of the pre-conceived notions of the coaches. Maybe RR should come back as a consulting OC until Denard graduates, because Borges sure doesn't know how to use him.
|1 year 31 weeks ago||The game is on Borges.||
Al Borges lost this came with ridiculous play-calling. I thought they weren't going to try to "fit a square peg into a round hole." But that's exactly what they did. Fourth and one and you call a pass play for Denard when he's having a terrible passing game -- even for him? I just don't get it. Urban Meyer didn't get it either.
The play-calling was too cutesy today. We shot ourselves in the foot. Twice the defense put us back into the game late. Twice the bad play-calls dashed any hopes of scoring.
Let Denard run the dang ball in space, Al.

Totally agree with this:
"A three-point plan in an attempt to get Denard back on track:
There's more than one way to loosen up a defense. Keep with the short, easy throws for a while until DR -- and the receivers -- get their confidence up and their timing down. Short passes don't have to mean short yardage: let the receivers fight for some after-catch yardage to take some of the burden off DR. Afterall, this is MANBALL, isn't it?

Bo and Woody is such an arrogant, egocentric suggestion of names: Nebraska has won more national championships during Bo and Woody's careers than Bo and Woody combined won. How do you figure?
|2 years 14 weeks ago||So much sinful behavior is||
So much sinful behavior is justified by "just being business." If college football is a business, shouldn't players be able to sue the schools who yank their scholarships for breech of contract? What rights does a player get in return for signing a Letter of Intent? Isn't the LOI some sort of contract between player and school? If it isn't, it should be. Afterall, college football is a business.

|2 years 18 weeks ago||Nope...||
I think it is simple-minded to think a coach can't learn and grow and is only as good as his past record. Chizik is a great example. As is Tressel and many others.
WIth the resources and talent Michigan has to offer compared to what Hoke had at other schools, there's no reason why his teams should not perform better than his past teams.
Sorry YOU took offense. Did I interrupt your reach-around?
|2 years 18 weeks ago||Yes, but...||
...my point is that now there is a strong expectation for a great offense which Michigan never had before. We got a small taste under RR and there's no going back. OC's can be changed. If this one can't cut it, then Hoke will have to find a new one.
|2 years 18 weeks ago||Furthermore...||
...one lasting POSITIVE legacy of the RR era is the fomenting of the expectation of a high-powered, explosive, MODERN offense at Michigan from everybody from Brandon on down.
Let's take the blinders off. Hoke might be one step back AND two steps forward.
|2 years 18 weeks ago||Simple-minded isn't it...||
...to assume that since Hoke is a Michigan Man, and defensive-minded, and a branch of the Bo-Lloyd Michigan tree, that he can't field an exciting, explosive offense?
That's like saying you can't create a successful blog because your parents didn't.
Sorry, don't buy that line of reasoning.
|2 years 18 weeks ago||Question:||
Is Devin Garner sticking around for sure? Since he was reshirted, he could leave and still play a lot of years somewhere else. Does he have any misgivings about the coaching change?
All I've read assumes he'll be back-up QB. I just hope it's true.
|2 years 18 weeks ago||I hear you.||
I thought the same thing. But then I thought about Tressel. He usually talks only about winning the Big Ten championship. They've been doing pretty well with that goal.
Small point nonetheless. We ain't there yet and have a lot of work to do. Once we are, and start winning the Big Ten again, the NC hunt will fall into place.
|2 years 18 weeks ago||yep...||
I agree. What good is your quarterback if he's banged up all the time? I'm not a big fan of the run-first type spread. I'm not a big fan of any one system. I think you need flexibility. I think DR can fit into a more passing-QB type approach, call it what you will, and probably do better since he'll probably get less banged up.

No typo. Masterhation: being negative to pleasure one's self, one way or another. Causes abuser to be blinded by cynicism.
Drew Sharp and all the other "I-am-negative-therefore-I'm-smart" writers, bloggers and commenters have opinions that are worthless. (Masterhation is not usually auto-erotic in nature, but who knows what goes on behind the closed doors of their empty lives.)
The opinions of the players: the people who've actually played the game, sacrificed for the team, and worked with the man, are what count.
They are all supporting Hoke: not because they have to, and not because they gain by it in any way (like from increased readership or hits on their web pages), but because they know what it takes.
Go Brady! Go Blue!

For someone with the shady recruiting practices that Miles has demonstrated, his denial of leaving to players and recruits seems less than convincing evidence.

Love the "Emperor" Tyrelle Pryor pic.
|2 years 18 weeks ago||Nope...||
...only ONE reason RR didn't work out: He didn't win. Plain and simple.
Brandon wouldn't give a hoot about fractured fan base if we were winning. Alums and former players wouldn't care if traditions were broken if RR was winning.
As far as the Michigan supporters goes -- or any team's fans -- winning creates unity, not the other way around. As the saying goes: "Everybody loves a winner."
|2 years 18 weeks ago||Yep...||
...you're right. All these so-called "negatives" are pretty nit-picky. So Saban can't be a good coach because he changes jobs often. Meyer sucks because he's retiring all the time. Bo sucked because he never won a NC.
One of the comments somewhere said only Jesus was perfect. But even he would suck as our coach: HE's not a MICHIGAN MAN!
|2 years 18 weeks ago||You're right...||
...I stand corrected. I had thought he won twice. Still, getting there twice is not an easy task, even if he did lose one.
There's no doubt he's a great coach with a track record much better than Gruden's. He'd be a fantastic hire and worthy of the highest college salary should Michigan be willing to pay it.
|2 years 18 weeks ago||Maybe, but...||
... it wouldn't hurt to talk to him. Instead of waiting or hoping for full control, Michigan (or any college) guarantees it. I hope, at least he was contacted to make sure he wouldn't be interested.
He's defensive-minded, has proven success, and recruits would flock to us -- as would many of the top OCs and DCs. Cowher would have more pull than almost any other college coach. And good recruiting would be a big help in getting us out of our RR quagmire.
