2016 MBB Harold Baruti opens up his recruitment
RECRUITING ALERT! 2016 Wing Harold Baruti (Utah commit) will open up his recruitment. Mutual decision w/Utah. Full NCAA qualifier.

You might remebemer him from several weeks ago as one of our last hopes of filling our scholarship allotment this year and gaining some much needed depth on the wing and him subsequently choosing Utah over us amid a chorus of "BEILEIN CAN'T RECRUIT!!" cries. Apparently this is no longer the case.
EDIT: Apparently he may not be an option. According to MLive's Brendan F. Quinn
FWIW: Am told Baruti posted a qualifying score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language, but came in below Michigan's required score.

Don't need. Would much rather prefer Matthews and Cain.
Apparently Xavier was the frontrunner for Cain but they just took a guy at his spot so they will likely fade for him. This is very good news for UM according to Brian Snow at Scout.
I think Cain is '17

If Cain isn't Abel to play, we really need to recruit a kid named Adam, EVEn if he isn't a full qualifier. This was too many puns, Enoch already...
Those are just GARDEN variety puns

I wouldn't get my hopes up for landing him. I suspect he's headed to one of the New York schools. He seems destined to play in the Big Apple.
Noah more.

Michigan has 2 scholarships open for '16 and 4 for '17. Matthews would take only 1 of the '16s and Cain is a '17 recruit.
The need a lot wings and an injection of athleticism. They could take all 3 and still have room for a PG in the '17 class plus (assuming likely attrition) at least one more in '17.
Do you mean if we don't fill the 2016 spots? We're only losing Walton and Irvin. I wouldn't count out Donnal's 5th year yet.
I hear what you're saying on Donnal's 5th year, but it doesn't exist until U-M says it does. They've obviously let 5th-year guys walk before.

It's 4 total. We've not let a 5th year player walk who's played nearly as much as Donnal did last season. If his role diminishes significantly, I'd expect him to go. If it stays about the same, I'd think he's a lock to stay.
Spike was projected to be 3rd string if he stayed. Same with Max. Donnal will leave if he's projected down there too, but that's not where is he now.
I wonder if he can retake the test

and still can't speak english but we won't let this guy in. Brilliant.
My guess is those are folks from countries in which paying people to take your TOEFL's is commonplace.
I had a math instructor at Michigan with a heavy Chinese accent whose "English" I could maybe understand every fourth or fifth word. Horrible class.
If we're operating under that assumption, one but not the other, I'd rather have the one be graduate students. As much fun as sports are, the university's main purpose is academics. If I have to choose one and not the other, I'd rather let in students who can help improve our elite academic standing, rather than our basketball program.
There is a former 5-star playing at UDM now so I don't give any shits about BB recruiting. Wake me up when these kids hit campus.

How dare you bring relevant facts into this.
"BEILEIN CAN'T RECRUIT!!"
since he's only a 3* recruit.
Also for closers: coffee!

The whole 'you don't get an offer until you visit' doesn't seem to fall in line with Alec's ABC philosophy - Always Be Closing.
"Am told Baruti posted a qualifying score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language, but came in below Michigan's required score."
We're routinely told here by a variety of commenters that Michigan's standards are no higher or more rigorous than any other school's.
That's why Beilein can't recruit.
The Geniuses at Michigan have decided football and basketball are not to be regarded as "factories" for athletes.
That has been clear since Rich Rod. Even Lloyd had to deal with it, he was just allowed a coupld here and there who otherwise would not have been allowed in.
Beilein had his shot, and it didn't work out.
