CC: Local Radio Theory
OK take this one with a giant grain of salt as I trust radio people even less than I trust print sources, but if you are like me, you are scouring any and all sources for info so I offer this: On WDFN here in Detroit Ryan Ermanni (Pro-Michigan guy for what it is worth) is reporting the following...
1. The boosters and big money donation folks want Harbaugh in the worst way and are willing to put in cash to make it happen.
2. Brandon loves Brady Hoke, he would be his first choice of coach.
3. Mary Sue Coleman wants anyone other than Harbaugh based on his DUI, messy divorce, and the shot he took at UM a few years ago regarding academics.
His theory is that Brandon and MSC have to at least appear to be talking to Harbaugh to keep the boosters from going nuts, but are going to make sure the negotiations go nowhere so they can hire Hoke in the end.
Dear lord.
Hopefully its just another crazy rumor...lets all hope for the best whomever the new coach may be.
Go Blue!

I don't think so, Tim.
January 4th, 2011 at 1:19 PM ^
This guy is pretty lightweight and sees what he wants to see. I'm sure there are a hundred people on this blog who have more insight.
And leaks to the press are likely made by Harbaugh's agents to stoke the bidding war. That doesn't mean we get him, but it increases the likelihood that we are all being played.
January 4th, 2011 at 12:07 PM ^
I think that literally NOBODY has a clue now that Harbaugh is out. Everyone is at step one. Harbaugh was too good to pass up.
January 4th, 2011 at 12:20 PM ^
Absolitely nothing has been announced and you're already concluding that Harbaugh is out based on a handful of speculative reports?
January 4th, 2011 at 11:52 AM ^
I'm beginning to drinking myself into a coma.
January 4th, 2011 at 11:58 AM ^
I also heard this theory a couple weeks from some former players who played with Brandon at UM. Supposedly Brandon is completely closed up except that he is working very closely with Carr to make this decision.
January 4th, 2011 at 12:10 PM ^
The same former players were the source of Art Regner a couple of weeks ago and he was very confident. Also, DB wants Brady Hoke because he would be a company man and a safe hire which is very important to CEO's.
January 4th, 2011 at 1:15 PM ^
DB wants Brady Hoke because he would be a company man and a safe hire which is very important to CEO's.
If that is the case, the Dave Brandon could be a failure. Company Man plus Safe Hire does not necessarily equal Competent Hire.
January 4th, 2011 at 11:59 AM ^
This would go along well with the whole "MSC is a huge b****" philosophy. It is believable based on that alone. However, why would DB want Hoke over Harbaugh? That makes no sense.

hell hath no fury.....
January 4th, 2011 at 12:00 PM ^
then just wow, we're fucked
January 4th, 2011 at 12:07 PM ^
It ESPECIALLY means that Tiger Woods has a zero percent chance of being our next football coach.
January 4th, 2011 at 12:52 PM ^
the divorce was actually pretty clean in tiger's case. it was the marriage that was messy.
January 4th, 2011 at 12:09 PM ^
also, if they dragged this thing out just to make appearances and hire Brady Hoke
fire all of them
/rageface
January 4th, 2011 at 12:55 PM ^
it's really hard to picture any rageface with that avatar of yours
January 4th, 2011 at 1:09 PM ^
then that's damn funny, you know, considering how the program is (hopefully) in the midst of the messiest divorce since OJ

Silly humans. I am in control, along with my minions 503 and 504.
With every member of the media joining in the rampant speculation, it is impossible to separate the wheat from the chaff. No one else has come up with any solid info, so I suspect this is more noise.

Would you (and your two friends) kindly please stop blocking my access to MGoBlog? I'm getting to your web pages as often as to these.
okthxby

We need you jimmay!
January 4th, 2011 at 12:09 PM ^
Come on - this is nothing but rank speculation.
If Harbaugh would rather be in the NFL, that is fine - he is entitled. Many would make the same choice. While I think that Harbaugh would be a home run hire, I would also be fine with a guy like Hoke who has publicly said that he considers Michigan to be his dream job and would do it for free. To me, that type of Michigan love goes a long way.
January 4th, 2011 at 12:22 PM ^
Bill Stewart's love for West Virginia went a long way too. However, it didn't help a mediocre coach win games.
January 4th, 2011 at 12:09 PM ^
You know. It sounds reasonable. If MSC and Brandon don't have him as their #1 then this theory is actually quite probable.
January 4th, 2011 at 12:10 PM ^
My sources inside the athletic department tell me that Jim Harbaugh hates "Field of Dreams" which automatically disqualifies him in Dave Brandon's eyes because he thinks that that movie is "Totally Awesome"
They also tell me that JH thinks that "Return of the Jedi" was the best original Star Wars movie, which: lol, everybody knows its "The Empire Strikes Back"
January 4th, 2011 at 12:14 PM ^
Of anything I have read today.
January 4th, 2011 at 12:11 PM ^
there's "where there's smoke" elements to the Brady Hoke and his Band of All Stars (former players). as stunning as that is, it might be a "surround him with enough talented overpaid coaches and he can't fuck up too bad" plan. can't conclusively put my finger on it completely so just take it as a fwiw.

Gene Chizik.
January 4th, 2011 at 12:28 PM ^
with Cam Newton gone, think Gus Malzhan might want to make his way to Ann Arbor to work with one Denard Robinson under HC Brady Hoke?
January 4th, 2011 at 12:56 PM ^
Hopefully the "we really want Hoke" smoke has been fanned by our people to combat the "Jim's going to the NFL or staying at Stanford" smoke that's been puffed by Harbaugh's people, all of which is no more than a ploy for each side to haggle the final term of the contract: price.
January 4th, 2011 at 1:13 PM ^
My fevrent hope is that all the smoke today is both sides in a negotiation unleashing all of their various media toadies to do their dirty work for them and to muddy the waters...
We will see soon...

I can't take this much longer. I simply cannot get fired up or have any hope of returning to success if Brady Hoke is our coach. I'm sure he's a good guy but he ain't JH. Is this what's become of us? The best we can draw to coach the winningest program in history is Brady Hoke? I don't drink but I'm seriously considering it.
January 4th, 2011 at 12:18 PM ^
It might help you get fired up.
Does the trick for me every Saturday morning on state street.
January 4th, 2011 at 12:27 PM ^
try my morning on. have been tracking this story and ford stock. whoa, heart attack city...
with rolling stones playing on loop.
you cant always get what you want...
January 4th, 2011 at 1:46 PM ^
I pity the poor bastard who becomes coach if JH turns us down. There will be many like you saying he ain't JH and again we will have a coach who is hated before he gets here through no fault of his own.
January 4th, 2011 at 12:12 PM ^
Ryan is a stand up guy that I knew when we both undergrads at Michigan. I would trust his insight on this one.
January 4th, 2011 at 12:12 PM ^
What if Harbaugh is Blue through and through so he personally misinformed rosenberg so that he could take away his credibility? Doubtful, but it makes more sense than the OP.
January 4th, 2011 at 12:13 PM ^
...could be that Brandon values continuity, and Harbaugh would not promise to stay should the NFL come calling in a few years. I had also heard that Hoke was high on Brandon's list so that is not a surprise. And I would not be surprised by MSC's resistance to hiring Harbaugh.
January 4th, 2011 at 12:13 PM ^
I like how the two prime players in this whole game (Brandon and Harbaugh) have said nothing, and this board is going absolutely bonkers about it.
January 4th, 2011 at 12:27 PM ^
This has been the most entertaining part of it to me as well. All the speculation, which I am not surprised or upset over, but the two key figures have yet to say a word. They are probably skyping each other, throwing back some beers, and having a good laugh.
January 4th, 2011 at 12:14 PM ^
is anyone's but Harbaugh's.
January 4th, 2011 at 12:17 PM ^
I'm speechless if this is true.
January 4th, 2011 at 12:19 PM ^
IF this is true DB and MSC will have the legacy of screwing up a great product on their hands. C'mon you two, get Jim asap.
January 4th, 2011 at 12:21 PM ^
Then we are at 2007-8 all over again. DB suddenly gets into yachting, and we are Notre Dame ...
January 4th, 2011 at 10:51 PM ^
Don't kid yourself, we're already Notre Dame, and have been since 2007.
January 4th, 2011 at 12:21 PM ^
I'm sure Harbaugh has a very smart and savvy agent. It wouldn't shock me that he might leak some "Jim's not coming to Michigan" rumors to members of the media to be able to pull some more $$$ out of Brandon's pocket. This is big boy poker. I hope we win!
January 4th, 2011 at 1:48 PM ^
Ya figure you put that little box under your pillow at night, the Guarantee Fairy might come by and leave a quarter, am I right, Ted? The point is, how do you know the fairy isn't a crazy glue sniffer? "Building model airplanes" says the little fairy; well, we're not buying it. He sneaks into your house once, that's all it takes. The next thing you know, there's money missing off the dresser, and your daughter's knocked up. I seen it a hundred times.
January 4th, 2011 at 12:28 PM ^
I had this feeling 3 weeks ago that a closed door deal has already taken place and its complete. Jim will be the new coach tomorrow in the mourning early IMO
January 4th, 2011 at 12:47 PM ^
Just as likely that Brandon and Hoke made a back channel deal when he was in Ann Arbor not too long ago? There seems to be no end to the possible outcomes, particularly because the only ones doing the talking are the ones who have no idea on the outcome(media, rumors etc.)
