Jim Tressel Leaving Ohio State After the Sugar Bowl?
On Christmas Day, two sources that are very close to recruiting at prominent universities confirmed that Jim Tressel will no longer be the head football coach at Ohio State University after the Sugar Bowl against Arkansas.http://chicagonow.com/67GI

Something called "ChicagoNow.com". I've never heard of it before now.

there's like a 1% chance this is true.

The only reason I have found comfort in losing to tOSU is that my perception of Tressel is a coach that does things right and represents what's right with college football. My eyebrows were raised when the Pryor incident went down because of the number of athletes involved and the culpability of a coach for his teams' lack of charecter. (Many could argue this shows lots of charecter, all questionable). It seems to go against the grain of my perception of him, but I don't know him personally.
If there are more things coming down the pipeline, I am really disappointed by collegiate football being so corrupt. If its all this corrupt, just pay the guys and label it what you will.
Crap like this and Scam Newton tarnish the collegiate game IMHO, and it doesn't make my Christmas better, it just lumps us (Big10) into the same category as them (SEC). It seems like just a potential mess if true.

If that's what you believed in Tressel, then you'll be shocked when you hear the straight story about Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny.

I guess the lenses in my rose colored glasses have altered my outlook. Throw him under the bus..

Tressel was at the helm when YSU got in major (the real kind of major) trouble.
December 25th, 2010 at 6:00 PM ^
Peace out Jimmy!
December 25th, 2010 at 6:01 PM ^
It would make for a most memorable Christmas.
December 25th, 2010 at 6:02 PM ^
and they'll hire Charlie Weis.
December 25th, 2010 at 6:52 PM ^
Or Jim Harbaugh.

Rich Rod?

maybe pryor would stay...
December 26th, 2010 at 11:59 AM ^
Don't put this off so quick. tOSU will want the best out there if they can Tressel. Harbaugh would be on their radar.

I wore a sweatervest down in Columbus a few weeks ago. Gotta think he felt encroached upon ... I did this.

What if him leaving involves lots of violations (hypothetical)? Would that feel better?
December 25th, 2010 at 6:28 PM ^
If they've got violations coming, that would make me feel a little better about him dominating us. Would also explain why Lloyd always had the same face when he shook Carrol and Tressel's hand.

December 25th, 2010 at 7:22 PM ^
It wasn't like when he lost to other coaches. I remember reading somewhere about how he didn't like their shadyness and it bothered him.
December 25th, 2010 at 8:18 PM ^
Ask Mike Bellotti how warm of a handshake he got from Carr in 2003. Lloyd was often an ungracious loser. You can argue how much something like a postgame handshake means, but he did not endear himself with how he handled most of them.
December 26th, 2010 at 1:00 PM ^
That's an internet meme that won't die. Carr gave a normal handshake and just happened to be photographed as he was turning away.
Carr had some issues dealing with the press, but I don't think any opposing coach ever had a personal issue with him.

This article seems like a joke. The only replacement candidate they talk about is Spielman. That takes the ridiculousness to a whole notha level.
Edit: It was changed to Patterson from TCU
December 25th, 2010 at 11:52 PM ^
That's how you can tell it's bullshit. If he was leaving, Hazell and Fickell wouldn't have left before the coaching search. And Patterson wouldn't be one of the choices-it'd be Hazell, Fickell, Bob Stoops, maaaybe Urban Meyer, or someone with strong ties to OSU and coaching experience. Bo Pelini was a strong possibility before his meltdown, but Patterson? Not happening unless the search goes to hell. I can see Glenn Mason before Patterson.

Recruits were told starting yesterday that Tressel will no longer be the coach and can start looking elsewhere. Looks like some major compliance issues are coming down soon.
December 25th, 2010 at 6:30 PM ^
Any insider info? You just restated the article but with a little more authority, where are you getting that from? Just wondering...
December 25th, 2010 at 7:26 PM ^
Wouldn't it be a violation to contact recruits right now?
December 25th, 2010 at 9:12 PM ^
I was just joking to show the ridiculous of this.
December 25th, 2010 at 6:23 PM ^
No way this is true. Christmas has never been this good to me before.
I think it's all speculation in light of what just happened. Natural reaction you could say. I'll believe it when I see it.
December 25th, 2010 at 6:32 PM ^
omg omg omg this would be the best christmas EVAR if this happened!
December 25th, 2010 at 6:41 PM ^
Might as well add to the rumor mill since I'm bored as tits at a family party...

<br>I am totally comfortable taking shots about the Tressel story. I'm comfortable w/ my sources.

December 25th, 2010 at 6:47 PM ^
I hope his source wasn't Melanie Collins.
December 25th, 2010 at 9:23 PM ^
Or Lynn Henning. Or Michael Wilbon. Or... well, you get the idea.
I just don't know how any of these people are still employed. They have very simple job descriptions. Get information, confirm it, report it. When in doubt, say so. Unless there are extremely good and compelling journalistic reasons, you require your sources to go on the record. Only in extreme, rare circumstances would you not identify yhour sources.
In this case, it's a bit complicated because I am not sure that "Tab," the fatassed suburban Chicago jackoff who first "published" this rumor, actually has a job to begin with. Firing him would be like firing Kramer.
December 26th, 2010 at 12:00 AM ^
Yes, that's what makes this so hard.
December 26th, 2010 at 9:54 AM ^
I'm just trying to get ahead.
December 26th, 2010 at 1:54 PM ^
Man, oh man.
December 25th, 2010 at 6:47 PM ^
I'd like to have a better record against him before he leaves... I'd really like to see Rodriguez beat him.
December 25th, 2010 at 6:36 PM ^
December 26th, 2010 at 1:06 PM ^
Actually, that makes perfect sense. OSU is pretty quick to cooperate with the NCAA when infractions occur (and given the size of the NCAA rulebook, infractions are inevitably going to happen everywhere). They don't stonewall.
December 25th, 2010 at 6:41 PM ^
but if the rumor were true, would he be leaving for somewhere else, or retiring?
December 25th, 2010 at 6:50 PM ^
December 25th, 2010 at 7:07 PM ^
but they like Mangini... I guess that's what happens when you get used to losing, wouldn't mind seeing my Bengals hire him though. I like Tressel, mostly because of the way he reacted to the UM investigation.
