Per Mark May D-Rob could win the heisman with 6 losses
October 7th, 2010 at 9:21 PM ^
With these numbers he'd win even if we lost the rest of our games. We don't need a new thread every time someone mentions his heisman chances though.
October 7th, 2010 at 9:24 PM ^
There's always at least one thread on the main page that points to Denard and his Heisman chances...
October 8th, 2010 at 7:27 PM ^
Denard- more exciting than Reggie Bush, because he can throw the ball. favorite MM quote to date

Agreed, if he is putting up 400 yards on Big Ten defenses I don't think we're losing 6 games.
October 7th, 2010 at 9:32 PM ^
Tebow won in 2007 w/ 4 losses.
October 7th, 2010 at 9:35 PM ^
By Jamar Adams. (compliments of captain insaino)
October 7th, 2010 at 9:39 PM ^
...won it with 3 losses. The 4th loss vs. Michigan came in January post-award.
October 7th, 2010 at 10:27 PM ^
You are correct. My mistake.
October 7th, 2010 at 9:34 PM ^
I'd like to get past this weekend first. But to answer your question, I would think that many losses would eliminate you from consideration. The field may not be as strong as in other years, but I think that you can't have that many losses and still be the best player in the NCAA. Just my 2 cents.
October 7th, 2010 at 9:36 PM ^
is starting to rub off on May.
October 7th, 2010 at 10:19 PM ^
That sounds kinda gross.
October 7th, 2010 at 9:38 PM ^
Man Mark May is definitely drinking the D cool aid. Dude is in love with him.
October 7th, 2010 at 9:39 PM ^
If he continues to put numbers like this, and finished with around 2500 yards passing and over 2000 yards rushing and we still somehow lose 6 games, I think there are people out there would realize what an amazing accomplishment those stats would be and he'd still be a strong contender... but anyways Go Blue on saturday and screw Michigan State.

October 7th, 2010 at 9:40 PM ^
What's with the huge influx of people believing anything Mark May or Colin Cowherd say? If Bleacher Report starts showing up more than once a month, I think we'll have hit the trifecta.
October 7th, 2010 at 10:25 PM ^
As long as he's sitting next to Lou Holtz, Mark May looks like the smartest, most unbiased man in the world.
October 7th, 2010 at 11:37 PM ^
No, he still looks like an overweight ass.
October 7th, 2010 at 9:42 PM ^
when he said, "Imagine how many yards [Denard] would have against his own defense!"
October 7th, 2010 at 10:11 PM ^
October 7th, 2010 at 9:44 PM ^
And Denard continues to put up ridiculous numbers, the NCAA will create a new award called the Denard Robinson Award. An award given every year to the player that would have won the Heisman had he been on a better team. Plausible?
October 8th, 2010 at 1:56 AM ^
They have a name for that, it's called the "Barry Sanders at the Lions" award.
October 7th, 2010 at 9:44 PM ^
that Denard keeping up those numbers means we win those games.
October 7th, 2010 at 9:46 PM ^
Notre Dame, 1956, 2-8: Hellooooo, Heisman.
October 7th, 2010 at 10:27 PM ^
IIRC, Tennessee fans are even more pissed about Hornung beating out Johnny Majors in 1956 than they are about CWood beating out Peyton in 1997.
October 7th, 2010 at 10:04 PM ^
those 6 loses would have to be close losses with DROB putting up impressive numbers and keeping UM in the game.
October 7th, 2010 at 10:08 PM ^
May was just commenting about how dynamic a player Denard is, and he isn't actually saying that he'll win the Heisman with 6 losses (God forbid we lose that many <crosses fingers, throws salt over shoulder>). He's merely saying that Denard has become so synonymous with the Heisman hype that even losses couldn't keep him from being a frontrunner. That's just my opinion.
October 7th, 2010 at 10:09 PM ^
That he still believes Jimmy Clausen will win the heisman this year?
October 7th, 2010 at 10:11 PM ^
Denard is a stud player, but the ESPN hype machine has gone overboard on him. I'm watching K-State vs Neb and they keep talking about Denard this, Denard that. I like Denard getting the PR, but this is over the top.
October 7th, 2010 at 10:42 PM ^
Agreed. Craig James is a moron.

Mark Ingram - Alabama
LeMichael James -Oregon
Taylor Martinez - Nebraska
That other QB to the south of us
Denard can put up those sick numbers, but with the list noted above (all of those teams are likely to lose only a combine 3-4 games) puts them on a tough list to beat. Michigan would have to win 9 games minimum for Denard to get serious consideration. But since I believe both of those factors are tied together.......2000 yds rushing and 2500 passing with 35-40 TDs would equal 9 or greater wins.
Denard would get serious consideration
October 7th, 2010 at 10:43 PM ^
9 wins? Consider it done.
October 7th, 2010 at 10:49 PM ^
I think he says stuff just to engender controversy, which is smart TV, but there's no way in this era of college football that a player from a .500 team is ever going to win the Heisman. As Believer already pointed out, there are other very dynamic players on better teams than Michigan who will move very quickly into the top spots in the Heisman race once Michigan starts losing a few games.
October 7th, 2010 at 11:32 PM ^
......but his statement would not be as asinine if the college football world did not think that the best player on the best team, or one of the best teams, was always the best football player that year. Some years it works out that way, but many other years it should be someone other than who was chosen. In 2006, Smith from tOSU had pretty good numbers but was seriously outclassed numberswise by Brennan from Hawaii, and probably should have been beat out for the Heisman by Ray Rice of Rutgers(better numbers than Ingram last year). Last year was a great example of the best player in the country not getting the Heisman when Ingram(good, not great numbers for a RB) won it over Suh(best DL I've seen playing college football), and even Gerhardt(Better overall numbers than Ingram playing with lesser talent around him).
Point being that if the award was given to who it should be given to, many times the results over the years would have been different than they were, and rarely to the best player on the best team.
October 7th, 2010 at 11:00 PM ^
Can we not call him "D-Rob"? The whole "first initial-first syllable of last name" thing is way overdone.
October 7th, 2010 at 11:39 PM ^
especially when he has so many actually good nicknames.
October 8th, 2010 at 4:36 AM ^
for about 2 games, now I don't hear it much.
"Denard" seems to have won out. Fine with me.
October 8th, 2010 at 9:58 AM ^
B-Ed, M-Ode, D-Stone [actually I kind of like that one], K-Kog, J-Hem, J-Moo, J-Ko. How can you not go wrong with it?!
/s for those that didn't notice.
October 7th, 2010 at 11:55 PM ^
If Denard keeps up this pace and goes 2000/2000, I think that puts him on the Mount Rushmore of Heisman Trophy winners. We have to come up with something more superlative for Denard than "Heisman Trophy winner." Gino Torretta, Chris Weinke, Jason White, and Danny Wuerffel all won the Heisman. Does anyone honestly think those guys are in Denard's class (if he keeps up this pace.) I think we need to have "Super Heismans" for guys like Denard, Barry Sanders, and I hate to say this, Tim Tebow (50 TDs is impressive, you've got to admit.) Sort of like how in history, when a great man comes along, he's known as blank the great, as in Alexander the Great, Peter the Great, etc. If Denard keeps up this pace and wins three heismans, he becomes Denard the Great, IMO.
P.S. And I haven't even started drinking yet...
October 8th, 2010 at 12:17 AM ^
With these numbers from Denard, there is no way we end up with 6 losses. No way, not a chance, not in hell.
October 8th, 2010 at 4:40 AM ^
The most stunning thing to me this season is not so much that Denard is playing like the Heisman front runner, it's that he has to play like the Heisman front runner just to win games.
Denard is not playing like he is to get votes or style points, he's playing like he is just to keep from losing.
October 8th, 2010 at 12:44 AM ^
Can anybody actually like, comprehend 2000/2000 (let alone 2500/2000). I just like, can't... Just seems so out there and crazy and not possible. I can't grasp it... I mean it's crazy when a player reaches 2000 rushing yards. Those are top notch, best of the best players, but to throw for 2k passing yards as well, ugh, just mind bottling...
You know, like when your mind is in a bottle.
October 8th, 2010 at 2:21 AM ^
I do it all the time on my Xbox.
October 8th, 2010 at 1:23 AM ^
and if Denard keeps this type of production up against the meat of our schedule, Denard will definitely be on a Top 5 (Offense) Team.
As to losing 6 games, with that type of continued production, we'd have to lose a bunch of 50-40 games to drop six. Even as bad as our defense is, I just don't see the continued production and six losses going together.
