Josh Furman
I know this is pointless, but was wondering if anyone has herd about Josh Furman. I know he was a little under sized coming in, but with the depth problem I know we could use some speed out there. I know he'll most likely red shirt but would like to know whatever one else thinks.
September 24th, 2010 at 10:16 AM ^
He's a freak athlete (not really that undersized...well over 200 pounds and runs a 4.3) who came in even more raw than Denard. When Furman sees the field, he NEEDS to have his head on straight and have solid fundamentals because he's meant to be an impact player.
September 24th, 2010 at 10:16 AM ^
I think he's a freshman. I think you shouldn't expect freshman to play, and I think all of these posts asking about freshman need to stop.

Thank you Colt McBaby Jesus, for trying to return some sanity to the expectations placed on recruits.
And also for that sweet mustache.
September 24th, 2010 at 10:38 AM ^
You could ask a question in a way that suggests that you expect a freshman to play right away. You could also just ask if anyone knows anything about how a freshman is progressing. Sometimes - not often, I grant - people on the board have some not-public information.

It's a Mustache for Michigan.
September 24th, 2010 at 1:31 PM ^
...and get a Carstache for Michigan.
September 24th, 2010 at 11:05 AM ^
I think the posts about the possibility of freshmen, red shirt freshmen and sophomores contributing on defense will end when the crippling fear of our defensive performance recedes.
September 24th, 2010 at 11:32 AM ^
They won't stop until the Earth is swallowed by the Sun.
September 24th, 2010 at 11:36 AM ^
Oh, so in 2012, then
September 24th, 2010 at 12:33 PM ^
Luckily we will have enough time to trounce Alabama before this happens.
September 24th, 2010 at 10:17 AM ^
Saw him walking off the field after the win last weekend. He's just a freshman, but I would love to know what the plan for him is. Keep him at safety, or put Barwis weight on him and make him a linebacker? I always get worried about guys like him, scares me that he'll be a great athlete without a real position, but it's still wayyy too early for that.
September 24th, 2010 at 10:31 AM ^
Freak athletes are terrible to have

September 24th, 2010 at 10:39 AM ^
I didn't expect him to play at all this year. All I said was I would love to know what the plan for him is. It will be interesting to see if he's a safety with ridiculous size, or if he puts on weight like Mouton did.
September 24th, 2010 at 10:18 AM ^
I waited all off-season just for the quality of posts to go up...
September 24th, 2010 at 11:10 AM ^
Then you must be horrifically disappointed...
September 24th, 2010 at 11:30 AM ^
And is it ironic or po-mo (or both? is that po-po-mo?) for me to continue sitting here typing knowing that each additional pixel subtracts yet more value from what I continue to sit here and type?
Need I say more?
September 24th, 2010 at 10:34 AM ^
dreads grow a couple more inches, he should be ready to play...
September 24th, 2010 at 11:54 AM ^
for the awesome avatar
September 24th, 2010 at 10:20 AM ^
Yeah, my big concern is that we're not playing enough freshmen this year also. What gives?
September 24th, 2010 at 10:24 AM ^
Expect good things from Mr Furman next season.
September 24th, 2010 at 10:25 AM ^
Is it bad that everytime I see a thread about a player with no subject I get nervous that we lost another one?
September 24th, 2010 at 10:29 AM ^
No not really bad that you think that, but the OP and others need better titles for their threads.
He is one to watch out for next year and beyond, IMO. I am hoping that he can bulk up and be a terror at LB as seeing that we have guys to play the safety positions already.
September 24th, 2010 at 10:32 AM ^
No. At my work, when someone quits or gets fired, there is an email with only their name in the title. I'm conditioned to think the worst as well.
September 24th, 2010 at 11:41 AM ^
Damn your avatar is incredible. 'Weeeeeeeeee!'
September 24th, 2010 at 10:44 AM ^
No Monday announcement this week - I wasn't going to say anything but since you brought it up. This is the first week we haven't lost a player to transer this season! The progress continues...
September 24th, 2010 at 10:51 AM ^
What in the hell is wrong with you guys? You don't talk to a pitcher when he is throwing a no hitter and you don't talk about transfers when it's quiet on the home front!
September 24th, 2010 at 11:57 AM ^
I soiled my armor I was so scared!
Better Title: Has anybody heard anything about how Josh Furman is progressing?
September 24th, 2010 at 10:26 AM ^
I saw a name listed and expected to click and see he was transferring....re-do title PLEASE!!
September 24th, 2010 at 10:33 AM ^
We only have one more day before we make it through a week without a transfer! I think we can do it. Just believe.
September 24th, 2010 at 10:41 AM ^
You do realize that if anybody else transfers out now, it's all your fault.
September 24th, 2010 at 10:59 AM ^
I would feel such shame. To make up for this it would be Harakiri time for sure.
September 24th, 2010 at 10:27 AM ^
How many posts do we have on people wondering if freshman are going to play. News flash: most are not that good right away. They need to grow a bit before they spread their wings and fly. Patience my friend.

I herd he was out to pasture with a few heifers. (Sorry, I just couldn't resist - chalk it up to a bad case of the Fridays).
September 24th, 2010 at 11:14 AM ^
Trying to steal from mgoblog for his herd show
September 24th, 2010 at 10:31 AM ^
I really like the idea of waiting a couple years on him so he can add weight to his frame and he can be a blazing fast WLB, but that prob requires him not seeing the field until 2012.
September 24th, 2010 at 10:33 AM ^
...hmmm...62 points...has been a member for less than 2 weeks...hmmm...
September 24th, 2010 at 10:38 AM ^
It's still February? Hmmmm....
September 24th, 2010 at 11:00 AM ^
This site has been hammered by the MLive Crew lately. Pointless posts with loose grammar and a frightening lack of logic (in the more "complicated" entries)...
September 24th, 2010 at 10:41 AM ^
The coaches have never said anything to suggest that he's ready to play this year. It seems safe to assume that they expect big things out of him, though, given his athleticism. His is probably a redshit that they'll be reluctant to burn.
September 24th, 2010 at 10:50 AM ^
this has been a topic well discussed. furman came into michigan very raw. he was a linebacker in high school whose only responsibilities were to rush the passer and obviously help in run support. he had no pass coverage duties for the most part. its gonna take time before he develops into a viable option at lb. just because hes a freak athlete doesnt mean he wouldnt be a serious liability
September 24th, 2010 at 10:53 AM ^
You were wondering about a herd of abouts? Or is it you wondering about a man named Josh Furman who herds abouts?
September 24th, 2010 at 11:04 AM ^
shoulda stopped after "i know this is pointless."
September 24th, 2010 at 4:24 PM ^
I stopped at pointless but am here to read the replies. The sarcasm here makes me happy in a weird way.

Josh Furman doesn't have any experience in pass coverage, so he wasn't ready to play right away at safety. He came in at only 207 lbs, which is small for a linebacker, plus we have experienced guys playing there now.
I hope we don't burn his redshirt on special teams. If he comes in next fall around 220 or higher with 4 years of eligibility left, he has the physical tools to be a very good linebacker for us.
September 24th, 2010 at 11:38 AM ^
Given the previous comments regarding questions about freshmen playing, I take it that it would not be well received to ask if anyone thinks Brennen Beyer will start next year.
