Countdown to Kickoff - Day 22
August 13th, 2010 at 8:16 AM ^
A video with only practice clips, sweet.
August 13th, 2010 at 8:16 AM ^
I was seconds away from posting this. I even included a kitten in my post to appease you.
But seriously, this this one is 2:19 of pure ecstasy. My fire is quenched... for about 90 seconds.
August 13th, 2010 at 8:33 AM ^
Boys look good, of course hard to really tell (not in full pads and only first week), but I am super pumped for this season.
August 13th, 2010 at 8:43 AM ^
Looks like Tate actually IS practicing with the team! /s
Passes looked good except for the one by Gardner that got batted down. Fitz looks fast, Denard looks fast, everybody looks fast!
EDIT: After watching a few more times, a couple more observations:
- Good to see Ricardo getting some reps. He's a big guy, and hopefully he can help us out on the outside this year.
- I LOVE the way Denard tucks the ball away as soon as he decides to run. He's clearly been given a lot of coaching on that. Less turnovers, please!
- Both Denard and Devin have some serious jukes. My ankles hurt just watching Denard.
- Vincent Smith appears to be not only unafraid of contact, but running right into it, so hopefully that means his confidence in his knee is at 100%.
August 13th, 2010 at 9:01 AM ^
I think the knee confidence is more about cutting and being shifty than taking contact head-on. Howeva, I remember Smith trucked a guy last year in practice, so maybe he's just a little dude who can also pound it a little bit.
August 13th, 2010 at 10:45 AM ^
which is very good for us. All I could notice in this video was "wow that guy has huge shoulder pads for his size" and "wow that guy can move fast." One of these is a very good thing, the other is just a little funny.
Also, I know I don't need to say it, but Denard + Read Option = me very happy. Actually hold on, Denard + Running the ball in any way = me very happy
August 13th, 2010 at 8:36 AM ^
I have a man-crush on Denard.
August 13th, 2010 at 10:47 AM ^
and thirded. This video made it even moreso. but I've had it for a while.
(Commencing "I said he'd start at the beginning of last year guys srsly") I've known he was gonna be good, even when Tate was 100% (95%?) the main QB.
I also love Vincent Smith
August 13th, 2010 at 8:37 AM ^
Kenny Demens is ginormous.
August 13th, 2010 at 8:42 AM ^
Denard actually executing the zone read is going to be a problem for teams!
August 13th, 2010 at 8:42 AM ^
Did we already run out of interesting players to interview? I was hoping to hear whether Obi likes crunchy or creamy peanut butter.
August 13th, 2010 at 8:42 AM ^
Good Stuff.....the team is pressuring him to hold it tight.
August 13th, 2010 at 8:52 AM ^
At the beginning of the video? That wasn't Tate.
August 13th, 2010 at 8:53 AM ^
He was not running full speed, nor did I see any blockers, receivers or anybody else in on the play. I think that was probably a drill on proper technique to strip the ball from a carrier.
Plus, as noted, that's not Tate.
August 13th, 2010 at 9:34 AM ^
That was kevin leach #52 not tate
August 13th, 2010 at 8:43 AM ^
With Devin getting more air time than Tate.......
It is just a short video.................
August 13th, 2010 at 8:49 AM ^
very telling.
August 13th, 2010 at 11:35 AM ^
Most likely it is telling that the video guy has a Dilithium man-crush too . . . but I don't think we can read too much into the distribution of snaps on a 2-and-a-half minute video posted on August 12.
August 13th, 2010 at 11:49 AM ^
Just one of the more recent inside/board jokes.

August 13th, 2010 at 12:24 PM ^
You telling him 'That's not very telling' is very telling.
August 13th, 2010 at 8:46 AM ^
Oh man, does this one psych you up or what.
A lot of flying dreads. Some good defensive plays. Demens, holy cow that young man is fit. Cam had a lock on Denard too. DG looking for real (the future is bright), like he could step in in the face of a double calamity. Smith in the mix at full speed. Fitz takes one to the house.
Oooh, I am psyched now!
August 13th, 2010 at 10:03 AM ^
the flying dreads also. As good as the team looked what scares me the most is all the underneath passes getting caught and giving up some YAC. I know it's a practice video and no pads, but after that Penn State game last year I feel like that is one area this D needs to improve.
August 13th, 2010 at 8:47 AM ^
That throw at 1:57 is not something he could have done last year. On the run, with a low, accurate throw.
Kickoff, plz...
August 13th, 2010 at 8:48 AM ^
That one pass by Gardner was a little forced, but that's why he's a freshman and will redshirt. Everyone looks killer, baby!
Also, when Gardner finally does play, he is fast and mobile, but I think besides being shifty, he's going to have an absolutely lethal straight arm. That's a big, powerful dude. That's like... if Henne could run.
Oh... goosebumps.
August 13th, 2010 at 8:51 AM ^
Who is #28? Dude looked sick.
August 13th, 2010 at 8:52 AM ^
That's Fitzgerald Toussaint. He's good.
August 13th, 2010 at 8:51 AM ^
practicegasm
I need a smoke.
August 13th, 2010 at 8:54 AM ^
make the team if you're smoking!
August 13th, 2010 at 10:01 AM ^
to Tom Harmon.
August 13th, 2010 at 12:25 PM ^
to upvote this.
August 13th, 2010 at 12:31 PM ^
The day of the first game. Yup.
Also, it doesn't matter, because Tom Harmon didn't have lungs. He was a cyborg from the distant future with a mechanical respiration unit.
August 13th, 2010 at 9:02 AM ^
August 13th, 2010 at 9:02 AM ^
While it's kinda (read: not at all) interesting to know the favorite movies of players; the last few didn't have near enough clips from practice. More of these, please!
August 13th, 2010 at 9:03 AM ^
I know it is just a clip, but that looks like one BAD ASS football team.
August 13th, 2010 at 9:15 AM ^
A highlight film tends to do that ;-)
August 13th, 2010 at 9:22 AM ^
Maybe it's the maize colored glasses, but man does the pace look a lot faster than previous seasons' early practices.
- call me crazy, but Troy had his head down going full jets and it took him awhile to catch Fitz
- All 3 look to be throwing the ball accurately in the short passing game.
- Ricardo is a big dude
August 13th, 2010 at 9:24 AM ^
Someone should look up last year's Countdown videos and compare. I would read that post if someone wrote it.
August 13th, 2010 at 9:38 AM ^
...that Tate didn't run the ball much. Maybe the footage ended up on the cutting room floor.
August 13th, 2010 at 9:47 AM ^
... Tate in a slo-mo juke would not be nearly as exciting as Denard.
August 13th, 2010 at 9:50 AM ^
Curious as to why Denard prefers to carry the ball in his left hand.
August 13th, 2010 at 10:01 AM ^
I bet you when you move that fast, you need a hand away from your body to balance, and he's probably much more right hand dependent. So to keep the ball protected, he tucks it away in his left.
August 13th, 2010 at 11:33 AM ^
He's right handed, so by tucking it under the left arm, he can always have a hand on the ball even if he's transitioning to the run.
At least that's what I take from it
August 13th, 2010 at 9:52 AM ^
For some reason I really enjoyed seeing Kenny D demolish Gardner, imagine what he is going to unleash on the Big 10 this year. This was the best video so far in the countdown.
August 13th, 2010 at 9:53 AM ^
I feel so bad for Kovacs at 51 seconds. I hope his ankles don't hurt too bad. Don't feel bad, man. The Flash himself couldn't have gotten to Denard right there.
August 13th, 2010 at 9:57 AM ^
All I heard was Kovac's knee's slapping together...
August 13th, 2010 at 12:22 PM ^
what you heard was a sonic boom as Denard passed the speed of sound.
August 13th, 2010 at 10:04 AM ^
How could Denard have gotten to himself?
August 13th, 2010 at 10:07 AM ^
The other flash. You know, the slow one.
August 13th, 2010 at 9:56 AM ^
While watching the video, I was fully expecting the action to cut to an interview with a player. Nope. Just highlights baby. Me likes.
