This was one of my favorite coaches. Felt he should be more involved with playcalling than, say, Drevno.
Guess that won't be possible now . . . .

Fisch's departure should not have been a surprise or even a nut punch. Harbaugh will find someone else to fill the position. He is great at finding good coaches.

He has a lot of OC responsibilities.
He's part of the game planning during the week and does have input in games (with playcalling), especially in the passing game.
This is a gut punch because he left for a college program not because he left.
It was always assumed he'd go back to the NFL.
January 2nd, 2017 at 2:59 PM ^
Well, he left for another college...to become an OC. So he got a promotion and more money.
January 2nd, 2017 at 6:31 PM ^
I understand that...that still doesn't mean it wasn't a surprise to those of us that knew he'd leave but thought it would be for the NFL. It's the last line of my post.
January 2nd, 2017 at 7:29 PM ^
Well you know what they say about assuming...
I get that a lot of (not all) the chatter was that he'd go back to the NFL. My point was its not like he he just took the same job he had at UM and made a lateral or worse move. He took a promotion. Its not really a gut punch to have a position coach leave for what could be a pretty good job too.
It sucks to lose Jedd, it does. But like your own point, it was assumed he would be leaving at some point anyway.
January 2nd, 2017 at 2:37 PM ^
Weren't they both involved in playcalling? My understanding is that it was a collaborative approach.
January 2nd, 2017 at 2:45 PM ^
It was...Drevno the main guy, Harbaugh approves. My understanding that Fisch does a lot of the gameplanning and some of the playcalling in the passing game.
Solid recruiter. Always mentioned by the QBs (along with Harbaugh and Drevno).
Definitely hurts, but we can recover. Harbaugh has options. Problem is most are still in the NFL or he gave him to his BFF Willie Taggert out at USF/Oregon.

He took the OC where he will be making the calls and not just providing input. I'm sure Harbaugh will find someone good to take over assistant OC and QB coach.

I mean, having a guy with NFL OC experience as a passing game coordinator was always a luxury and something no one really expected to go longer than 1-2 years. Initially I think most thought it was just a 1 year old over till he got a new job. 2 years was better than expected. Good for Jedd.

Expected that he'd be leaving within a few years.
Not expected he'd be leaving now...and for UCLA.

This is probably one top assistants I felt Michigan had...really hope this doesn't hurt any recruiting we have going on.

You sound so sure of yourself.
That's like saying Hoke went to go coach at Oregon to take over that program. Or Nussmeier comes to Michigan to be HC because Hoke was about to fail.
Maybe he just likes the whether and area and knows Mora runs an NFL style program like Harbaugh? Maybe he wants to be OC again and control his own offense?
Why would UCLA retain Fisch as HC? He's never been a HC. You're UCLA...you can do a little better than that.
Hell, I'd think Chip Kelly would be lining up for that opp if it presented itself. Maybe they'd be rowing the boat in Pasadena?
I don't think this has anything to do with trying to plan to be a HC when Mora is fired. UCLA will go out and hire a big name for sure.

LOL, must have missed the future "interim" head coach.

Yea I missed that one.
That's my fault.

I love Fisch, but I trust in Harbaugh's ability to replace him.
January 2nd, 2017 at 3:11 PM ^
This!
Some people were shitting themselves when DJ Durkin left to Maryland last year only to have Harbaugh replace him with Don Brown! We'll be fine.

This is life under Harbaugh. Hire good coaches then lose them in a year or two.

Right? A Co-OC (with two other people if you count Harbaugh,) because he has proven himself worthy, gets hired as a regular OC.
Tell me how this isn't better than being stuck with an OC/position coach that underperforms because the HC is loyal to a fault?
Give me this 10 times out of 10 compared to Carr's and Hoke's loyalty to a fault, or Rodriguez' meddling in a side of the ball he didn't understand.
