OT: 4th 100 million donation to Northwestern this year
Today J. B. Pritzker announced a $100,000,000 donation to Northwestern's Law School. Previously this year, Northwestern received 3 other $100,000,000 donations. They have raised a total of 2 and a quarter billion in gifts since 2014. Among other things, Northwestern is spending upwards of $200,000,000 for their sports complex. While Big 10 TV money is helping, it is obvious that they are receiving significant funds towards the entire campus. As a point of comparison, Ross gave $200,000,000 to Michigan's business school.

Not much. Are you still sitting in the hockey student section even though you're not a student?

That's pretty random since I always sit in the endzone that Michigan shoots on for two periods for every single single game I've ever attended. Yost or Detroit.
But then again, you're on your 20th account and get pointed out all the time by me so I can see why you have some pent-up anger towards me.

Unlike you kid I don't really care what people on blogs think about me. Go to your room and play with your legos.

Didn't Ross only donate $100M to the b-school and another $30M separately?

I pay way too much in "donations" to the IRS already. I'd rather give my money to UofM directly.

A family of people the started and own some of the most iconic companies in the world. Most noteably now, they own Hyatt hotels and one of the major cruise lines.
I think the family has like 15 billionnaires within them.
$100M is a small fraction of the family wealth.

Can't even fathom what it's like to have so much money that donating $100 million (let alone possessing $100 million) is a plausible idea

How about $400MM for a sail boat?

Their stadium was a dump even back in '68 when I attended a game at what was then called Dyche Stadium.

is becoming a way for billionaires to feel like they own a sports franchise. Nearly every major program now has a multi-millionaire or billionaire behind it. We've gone down the slippery slope and landed in the pile of money.
College athletics isn't run by sensible people with athleics and education backgrounds, its run by groups of wealthy alums who throw their money and power around to get their way.
Just the truth now.

awfully quickly. And I would be hesitant to laud those with academic backgrounds too much.Mary Sue hired Brandon and Bollinger hired Goss.
I think you place way too much faith in academics.

If you thought Mary Sue Coleman was good at locking down huge donations, NU president Morty Schapiro is even better. The guy is everywhere. It's kind of amazing to watch him work an event.

is a giant piece of 1930's style poured concrete crap with a mini skybox bolted on top.
And its always fun taking the Red Line/Purple Line combo up there to see our home away from home, from our home away from home.
