MSU wins: Let the excuses begin

Submitted by StephenRKass on

Michigan State escapes tonight with a win against Rutgers. The excuses will begin, the statements that "all that matters is whether you win."

Actually, MSU winning is the best possible outcome for Michigan. We will beat them when they are undefeated, and this is more of a "quality" win, not that it matters.

I have analyzed my feelings regarding OSU and MSU.

  • OSU is more important, but I respect them more, and hate them less.
  • MSU doesn't matter as much, but I want to destroy and obliterate them, and dislike them more.

I am so looking forward to next week.

If I'm not not mistaken, MSU is actually 0-6 against the spread this year, which is astonishing for a team ranked in the top 5. That means, in effect, that they've underperformed expectations every week this season. Their day of reckoning is coming.

Dantonio ripped off redshirt off gun slinging Delton Williams.  This was supposed to be a year of punishment in lieu of getting kicked off team but when push comes to shove ... well so much for that.

Just tiring to see MSU not get upset by a weaker team once in 2.5 years.

How is this thread not on the sequence of Rutgers spiking the ball on 4th down and their interim head coach just staring into space completely unaware of his surroundings?

I can't believe I just witnessed that. I've never seen anything quite like it.

I could've sworn that was 3rd down too. I recall the long pass over the middle for a 1st down, followed by a broken up pass over the middle, the sack, then the spike. Wish I could rewind it but Im in a hotel room.

Even care. I just want to focus on Michigan, and what happened for us today. What they say about Rutgers..or injuries...or anything doesn't matter one friggin bit. Nadda. Zip. Zero. Zilch.

I'm tired as hell of the apologist fans so scurred about saying anything about our rival. These same fans who apparently forget that Sparty has recently had 7 good years and 40 years immediately prior to that of complete f'n mediocrity. Yes, Michigan was down for those most recent 7 years but now, they are most certainly not.

You don't need to "beat your rival" before you can have something to say about them or the rivalry. That's silly. Michigan fans should have every reson to feel some hope and confidence about next week's game v. Sparty and that's something that's been seven years in the waiting.

That light at the end of the tunnel for Sparty? It's the train.

Whatever. Next week is their Superbowl. However they've looked the last few games, they'll come ready to play and we better too. That's been the nature of this rivalry since forever.

The top three things I have heard from MSU fans regarding UM fans are

1. Arrogance

2. Entitlement

3. Delusion

And hell, I'll admit that a lot of bad UM fans(You know, the tweets at recruits type) had those traits. But they checked off 1&2 long ago for themselves. And now you can officially check off 3. I'm aleady seeing the Spartan portion of my twitter say they expect a victory. I'm not sure how considering they've been in a dogfight every game this year and their best victory is over a team that just lost to Washington State. They're saying that  Dantonio simply, "won't let them lose". He is a great coach but they treat this guy like he's Tom Landry or Vince Lombardi. With that said, they very well could win. Hold them under 20 and I believe we will win.

they are beat up, to be sure, but they just do not look dominant on either side of the ball right now.  We see that the Oregon win is not nearly what is was cracked up to be, and they really haven't played anyone else.  Still, Cook & Co is going to be a tough test of our defense.

all I've heard are injury excuses. my laugh of the night was an MSU fan saying "can we quit talking about TCU now, they are overrated". somehow they did not see the similarities in TCU and MSU tonight.

I have surveyed many of the ones I know in the wake of our game against Northwestern, and with the more reasonable ones, there is a liegitimate sense of nervousness right now. In that particular segment of the MSU fan population, you will find people that can concede that their game against Rutgers does not give them sustantial hope for next Saturday, but they do remain hopeful.

I don't hate Sparty more. I think they're more annoying as a program, but I don't hate them. Why would you respect OSU? Sure I respect them in terms of accomplishments, but not as a program.

Cal was ranked, undefeated and has scored on everyone coming into this game.  Utah isn't allowed to win close?  Pretty much everyone has won close games at this point, except for Baylor whose best win is Texas Tech.

So if you want to drop Utah in the polls for this game, it's going to be hard to find teams to put in your top 10.

Beating Sparty is way more important this year. Why ? ... in-state recruiting. Win that battle these next two years? Watch out, got some great kids coming out of high school and landing in Ann Arbor is key.

I don't care if it is ugly, Michigan needs this game. Can you imagine if Michigan comes out and craps the bed this week after how good they have looked so far? It will be beyond unbearable. Harbaugh needs to send a message and win this game. It is time for Staee's luck to run out.

Regardless of what sparty has done to this point, they're going to get up for Michigan. They have talent but have just been under achieving this year. I hope no one expects them to roll over for us.
