Michigan basketball snowflake thread
This team fought their butts off today and I'm proud of them. No excuses and no points for moral victories, but we have something special brewing.

John Beilein is a much better coach than Tom Izzo.

Amen, everyone should return. Get 2 5 Stars in the 2016 class and we should be fine.
What has happened to Irvin though? He looked scared to touch the ball in the final minutes.

still limited as hell - great job Izzo not helping that guy reach his potential - but he's a great athlete, huge, and a great defender. He couldn't get by him or over him.
By the way, Dawson would graduate from Michigan a 15 star.
February 1st, 2015 at 3:42 PM ^
Beilein would've turned him into a lottery pick by his junior year at the latest.
February 1st, 2015 at 3:45 PM ^
4/5 year plan.
February 1st, 2015 at 3:34 PM ^
weird guys, yeah, those are weird guys.
You've got seniors Dawson and Trice, Valentine on your team, 4 stars like Costello and on and on and you needed overtime at home.
That would be sobering for me, if I were Izzo.
Btw, haven't forgotten you killing this team back just a few days.
I love our program.

another year of valentine's ugly puss
February 1st, 2015 at 4:13 PM ^
didn't mean to imply he was a senior.
Yeah, he's on the Izzo 4 year plan.
Another who would be in this lottery if he had our staff working on him.
February 1st, 2015 at 3:38 PM ^
This guy?
He's a classless ass. I'll take our guy every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
Go Blue!

We'll get them at Crisler. The fact that we took them to OT down our top 2 players should have Izzo really worried.

Our starters could more than hold their own against MSU. Those 10 minutes in the first half when we were without MAAR, Spike, and Dawkins were the killer in my opinion. Hell of an effort though in a tough environment. Great experience for the young guys that they can learn from.

It hurts to lose to state but damn I'm so freaking proud of this team today. Way to fight...I think next year could end up being a good year.

looking doubtful they will be next year, either
February 1st, 2015 at 6:24 PM ^
yeah, that's a tough task.
Sparty should be thanking their lucky stars. They were this fucking close to a loss that everyone would have talked about forever.
Fuck them - but the star number they had on the court and on the bench versus what we had available - terrific effort.
February 1st, 2015 at 3:26 PM ^
Great regulation and embarrassing OT.
I'm shocked at the level of play from Beilein's "weird guys" and am hopeful going forward, but it's another loss at the end of the day.
February 1st, 2015 at 3:27 PM ^
I'll be honest... I'm devastated. Yes, it was amazing watching the freshmen and the rest of the team grow up right before our eyes. However, I feel as if that basically put any dagger into our longshot tourney hopes... I feel like we basically can only lose one or two more to get in because of the nonconference go-around, and I really doubt that the schedule will allow for it. I'm really proud of these guys and their resilience, and I'm really looking forward to watching these guys close out the season. Forever, GO BLUE
PS... omg JB is a wizard

Nahh man... I plan on watching every game that I'm able to catch over the next six weeks. I was just stating that it really hurts not making the tourney. Eventually, I'll get over it within the next couple of hours and watch the rest of the season with a renewed optimism for next season. JB is doing wonders with this team, and I'm so pumped to see where he can take us

This team fights.
I think we've got an allowance of two remaining regular season losses to be going into the BTT smack dab in the middle of the bubble.

This team plays to win every time it takes the floor. Winning Thursday at home against Iowa, going 3-2 in the killer stretch (@Illinois just got a lot easier with the suspensions), and winning the last two @NW and at home versus Rutgers is in the realm of possibility, at least as individual achievements.
Why not?
February 1st, 2015 at 7:53 PM ^
Iowa, @Illinois, MSU, @NW, Rutgers seem winnable. Steal one of the other three and we're 12-6 in the Big Ten. Even with our shitty non-conference performance seems like it'd be hard to keep a 12 win Big Ten team out. Even 11-7 would be hard.
February 1st, 2015 at 3:28 PM ^
Lack of depth killed us. We needed to hit a three to win at the end of the game, we had no chance in OT after basically every non-big played all 20 minutes (Spike got 5 seconds off in a fouling situation) in the second half.
Really need to get one of these shots at a quality win. Sort of reminiscent of the team four years ago that kept losing close games when they had shots at resume making wins in the first half of the year. Then they went on that run. Not sure if we have time to get enough to get in, but I'd be terrified to play us in the BTT, especially if we can get Walton back.

Beilein changes his substitution patterns in OT and it doesn't help us. This game, instead of rolling with Dakich when Dawkins fouled out, he went to two bigs, and then to Chatman. I thought that was a real lack of confidence in a strategy that had kept us in it all game.
February 1st, 2015 at 4:01 PM ^
You're criticizing him for not playing a walk-on who hasn't scored all season in overtime on the road.
Dakich gave it his all today, but he posed zero threat to the MSU defense.
February 1st, 2015 at 4:39 PM ^
The two-bigs lineup has no idea how to play defense or offense, and Chatman is at least as big of a liabilty the way he's played so far this year. Dakich doing nothing but staying out of the way was, sadly, a better option.
February 1st, 2015 at 3:28 PM ^
This team just needs some size. Losing JMo, Horford and McGary all in one season was more devastating than we thought it'd be, but give Beilein credit for holding the ship steady and still putting his team in position to win every night.

Proud we took 'em to OT.
Wish we could play better in OT. Not just today, but as a general rule. These guys play their hearts out, and just run out of gas if they have to play 45.
