Recruits hate uncertainty. (Look at what happened to Devin Gardner and you know why.)
UCLA is now a very uncertain destination for recruits. It may all work out fine . . . but it might not.

"Plan B" I'm glad he wasn't necessary. KLS!
January 5th, 2015 at 4:35 PM ^
I find all of this nice but can we stop bringing the football scoop here? Bruin Report is fine.

It's happening?

Hire this man!!!

I don't see how he interviews unless he's pretty certain he's going to get the job...or another in the NFL. Otherwise, he's just handed every other college coach in the country a significant recruiting advantage that will hang over him for the next few years.
January 5th, 2015 at 4:42 PM ^
Brian Kelly interviewed with the Eagles and decided to stay at ND.
January 5th, 2015 at 4:45 PM ^
Translation: he didn't get the job.
January 5th, 2015 at 4:55 PM ^
If he doesn't get the job, he says it's because his heart is at UCLA. That he really prefers working with young student-athletes and he's staying put for good. The notice that he's good enough for the NFL doesn't hurt with recruits.
January 5th, 2015 at 5:14 PM ^
That might be what he says...but I'd bet you a dollar that others are going to use this against him...how much impact it has on a recruit is debatable. But how could this not be a factor?
January 5th, 2015 at 5:02 PM ^
If we've learned one thing from the past day, it's that interviewing for higher-esteemed jobs can help you leverage more of what you want in your current job. He definitely could be interviewing for NFL jobs to get more out of UCLA (whether it's money, facilities, etc.).
Apart from that, I wouldn't put too much into this, I think the Jets job is Marrone's to lose and they're waiting to hire a GM who will match his personality and continuing to interview candidates in the meantime. I'd be more worried if I were a UCLA fan if the 49ers interviewed him.

Clark flipped his commitment 16 times since this news broke.

January 5th, 2015 at 4:40 PM ^
he was not our B-1 guy if we didn't get JH. Could have been deja vu.
Does UCLA have a good S&C guy we could poach?
January 5th, 2015 at 4:59 PM ^
The fact that he did come up as a plan B candidate (and Sam Webb was all over him for weeks) and now this seems to suggest he may be really shopping around for a new job
Rosen - find out when the drop/add deadline is
January 5th, 2015 at 5:03 PM ^
May make Clark a sure thing. I think we get him regardless with a quality position coach and I'm sure we will get one.

January 5th, 2015 at 4:56 PM ^
Now if we could only get the Raiders and Jets to interview Brian Kelly, we'd really be in business...
January 5th, 2015 at 5:03 PM ^
They always hire someone with no NFL head-coaching experience.

Michigan doesn't play ND anymore, his teams went 2-3 against M, and, IMO, overall he has been only above average in South Bend. Yes, his team "played" for a title in 2012 (thanks to enough luck to make M's 2011 season look downright hapless), but aside from that he's lost five games three times and four games once.
ND recruits like gangbusters and yet Kelly has only one season of double-digit wins in five years.
January 5th, 2015 at 5:50 PM ^
Recruiting battles and if he left soon recruit poaching for this year
January 5th, 2015 at 6:10 PM ^
Something's wrong in South Bend if he doesn't pick up that second season of double-digit wins next year. I think they have something like 19 returning starters.

Come on Mora. I want KLS! Well and Rosen
January 5th, 2015 at 5:17 PM ^
Isn't the real question re: Rosen whether he went to the class today? That's the point of no return, correct?
January 5th, 2015 at 5:22 PM ^
If Rosen is smart, he would not attend class until a definitive word comes out about Mora.
January 5th, 2015 at 5:54 PM ^
I could be wrong but I believe the point of no return is when attends his first football team function after enrolling
January 5th, 2015 at 5:27 PM ^
So what you're saying is: all the recruits are ours! Or in shorthand: Harbaugh
January 5th, 2015 at 5:33 PM ^
I thought it was as long as he didn't participate in football he could transfer, but would have to foot the bill for the next semester.
January 5th, 2015 at 5:38 PM ^
on UCLA 247 site says that Mora has not agreed to meet Jets.

Spoke to source w/knowledge of situation who said NYJ have interest in Jim Mora but he has NOT agreed to meet with them contrary to report

ESPN is saying Marrone is the front runner. However ESPN saying an NFL guy is the leader for an NFL job over a college guy is kind of funny.
Especially considering Mora is one of the most NFL-like college coaches out there along with Harbaugh and Saban.
