Hello: Shannon Turley (New strength coach)
YES!!!!
#Michigan commit Erik Swenson told @JoshNewkirk7 Harbaugh will bring Stanford's S&C coach to AA. I've confirmed Shannon Turley is the man.
— Sam Webb (@SamWebb77) January 4, 2015
Here is Turley's Stanford bio.
And for those who don't like the endowed positions (the J. Ira thing), Turley's job title at Stanford was the "Kissick Family Director of Football Sports Performance"
Lest we forget a few years ago someone named their OC position the "Andrew Luck Director of Offense"

I don't think it is necessarily fair to blame Aaron Wellman for the numerous ACL injuries, but I never thought our teams had toughness, particularly in the second half.
Hopefully Turley will make a difference.

With it looking really good at getting Vince Marrow and 49ers DBs coach Greg Jackson interviewing, oh my God.

finally NO MORE EXCESSIVE TORN ACLS TO STAR PLAYERS
January 4th, 2015 at 5:54 PM ^
This isn't a crazy remedy to that.
Sure, it can help, but there are a lot of factors that go into an ACL injury.
Ths is a HUGE hires for a number of reasons, but it's not like he's some kind of witch doctor.

And the poster did say "excessive"...so I'm not trying to make it out like the assumption is we'll have 0.
My point was just that we make this claim and no one has numbers to back it up.
I don't remember ACL's being a huge deal in Hoke's first year. I remember it being a huge year late in the Hoke era.
Does anyone have any numbers from Stanford?

What's also funny is that a doctor at Stanford did a study that showed injuries are far more likely on turf than on natural grass.
Ironically all of this obsession with ACL's and blaming strength coaches for everything happened at Michigan around the same time. Just a coincidence.

We could go back to grass, although less sun hits the turf now with the massive boxes.

Barwis was awesome.
Wellman was lauded when he came in.
Now this guy.
We should be fortunate to have had three solid S&C coaches in three different hires.

Harbaugh promised excellence in the coming season...and wants to win. Looks like he is putting together a top of the line staff. A very welcome and key hire indeed.
I like that Harbaugh is surrounding himself (and his playes0, WITH EXCELLENCE. If I had a son who was being recruited by Harbaugh, I would encourage my son to say yes to Michigan.
Good things are in store for us in 2015......

Smart guy. He could have gotten more $$, but he saved it for an elite staff.

...this is HUGE for the program. Best scenario out there (and the Kevin Tolbert option was a very solid #2)...
Love that we're finally getting back to having the LEADERS and the BEST.
I see this making huge dividends.

I would have been happy with him or Tolbert.

Once the team starts working with the new S&C staff, we'll start hearing revealing comments and reading interesting tweets from players about how lacking and insufficient the previous regimen was.
As far as "those who don't like the endowed positions" thing goes: endowed positions are great. Some of us just object to the name of the donor being barnacled to the position of head football coach at the University of Michigan. I couldn't care less about donor names being attached to athletic directors or strength guys or offensive coordinators. The position of head football coach at Michigan is entirely and totally different.
For example, J. Ira Harris could have made the same exact donation to the program with the stipulation that the title be "The Glenn E. Schembechler Head Football Coach." But then he wouldn't get to bask in the ego-boosting glow of having his name being connected to the position that Yost, Crisler, Schembechler, and Carr had and that Jim Harbaugh now has, would he?
