OT: Is anyone else enjoying watching SEC D getting run?

Submitted by VictorBlue on
Is anyone else enjoying their NYE by watching these vaunted SEC Defenses getting lit up today? Must be a bitter pill for ESPN to swallow while broadcasting their pet conference struggling in prime time. Gives me Hope that our return to prominence can be sooner rather than later. HARBAUGH GO BLUE

Really?  Brian is a self-described spread zealot and has a bias against anything other than the spread.  He seems to be happy with the Jim Harbaugh hire, but I can see him griping about using TEs and FBs and not "putting players in space" in the very near future.

Wofford College runs it and they scare the hell out of South Carolina and Clemson almost every time they get on the field together. That's some weird football to go against. It's like boxing a southpaw--you just don't see that shit every day...

Brent just characterized Urban and Nick as "good buddies." I've seen the two of them together and the best I could say is that the relationship is "icy."

I'd hate to see what Brent calls "loathed enemies."

The best division evar! The SEC West:

1 Alabama (12-1) 4 Ohio State (12-1)
8 Mississippi State (10-3) 12 Georgia Tech (11-3) Lost 49-34
9 Mississippi (9-4) 6 Texas Christian (12-1) Lost 42-3
19 Auburn (8-4) 18 Wisconsin (10-3)
22 Louisiana State (8-5)   Notre Dame (8-5) Lost 31-28
  Texas A&M (8-5)   West Virginia (7-6) Won 45-37
  Arkansas (7-6)   Texas (6-7) Won 31-7

Georgia Tech's coach just said to the ESPN sideline reporter after their win, "At least for the next two weeks we won't have to hear about the SEC." I'm loving how that conference is getting what's coming to it.

It's the SEC West teams that are getting their asses handed to them. The old SWC teams won their games (Texas A&M and Arkansas). And the SEC East teams are winning.

It's a lot easier to win national championships when you represent at least 50% of the teams in the national championship game. For example, the Big 12 wasn't going to win the NC game in 2011 (Oklahoma State), when the SEC represented 100% of the teams in it. And since rankings are all circular logic I'd say that's an argument.

What the SEC is best at is getting themselves voted into the National Title game.  From that point they have a 50% (or some years 100%) chance of winning the title game.  The absolute toughest part of winning the BCS title game was actually getting the voters to put you in the damn title game.  The SEC manipulated the media to the point that the SEC got a default entry every year.

Pure marketing BS.

They are a good conference, and right now, Alabama is the best program in the country.  While they had Urban, Florida was probably the best program in the country.  But the rest of the conference is no better than any other.  They are just the best at constantly fluffing their own nuts.

If the Big Ten would have been allowed to have 2 teams in the national title game in 2006 after they were 1 and 2 and slugged it out with a 3 point difference (similar to alabama and LSU in 2011)  Then there would be 1 more title for the BIG and 1 less for the SEC.  Doesn't totally change your argument all that much but the bias is obvious.  We were leapfrogged by a Florida team in a way that Alabama was not.  And Alabama lost at home to LSU whereas we lost by 3 at the Shoe.

Why didn't Nebraska take a run at Paul Johnson? It would seem that an institution with a long history with running the option would be a natural suitor for
Johnson.
