If we offered him I'm pissed. Thanks though, Cutcliffe

If I remember correctly, he turned down Tennessee in 2010 despite having been the OC there at one point in his life, so you would have to wonder why he would even consider Michigan, where he has zero ties essentially, if he turned down his former employer. Clearly, he is quite content with his current situation, but I am not at all surprised he was part of the initial net cast by the search firm.

Yes, we use the term "Michigan" and "Search Firm" synonymously, but they are not necessarily at this point in the process.
Michigan has given the search firm parameters to work with, and then the search firm goes out on its own and does it's due diligence in contacting coaches that meet the criteria and gauging interest.
Michigan's only involvement at this point was to provide the general criteria to the search firm.
It's only later in the pocess where both sides "wink" at each other that Michigan per se gets involved.

Maybe it's true that he wasn't interested. So what?

Why is it unthinkable that Cutcliffe doesn't want to coach Michigan? Dude has been in the South pretty much his entire life.
December 9th, 2014 at 11:25 PM ^
It's not that.
It's the fact that there's no way we gave Cutcliffe a commitable offer at this stage in the recruitment.
December 9th, 2014 at 11:28 PM ^
Also true.

Of course I don't believe it.
1484 said "Doesn't mean an offer went out." The thing we're discussing is the tweet, which says that an offer was made. It sounded like he hadn't read the tweet, so I shared it since it wasn't linked/quoted in the OP.

Gil Brandt is like a 100 years old. I do not think that is really him tweeting, it is probably his nurse having fun being Gil Brandt like that one episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

Has them in a note book catagorized by yes/no/maybe.

With all the important vital stats as well.
He will then create a Decision Analysis spreadsheet with weighted criteria and a metricized score - accurate to two decimal places - that rates each girl and evaluates her against the weighted criteria. The results are summed to an aggregate total and the winning girl is contacted to guage interest.

Are you a long time lurker who decided to go ALL IN last month, or were you previously banned? Just curious.
December 9th, 2014 at 11:48 PM ^
Oh Michael. You have so much to learn.
December 10th, 2014 at 10:54 AM ^
He's run through the entire Jungle Book.
Once he gets to King Louie, he's out of characters.
Might I suggets "101 Dalmations" when that happens?
December 9th, 2014 at 11:34 PM ^
Voices non interest to search firm is not "turning Michigan down".
Dammit Gil Brandt...back to the minced diet for you.

I'm mildly amazed that Gil Brandt is still alive.
December 9th, 2014 at 11:40 PM ^
I thought he might have a kid or something--so I googled him to make sure. He was last relevant (in the NFL) 25 years ago. He's effing 81. I suspect I have better (non-imaginary) sources.

No way Michigan would have flat out offered Cutcliffe the job so soon. Maybe they asked if he would be interested, but no way they offered him the job.
This deserves a MgoFuckGil

Okay. Big deal. There is a 0% chance we actually offered him the job.

If anything, Gil Brandt is being fed intentionally false information. Why would he have the lowdown on anything between two colleges?

...Cutcliffe turned down Mich.job.' Told by who? Cutcliffe's agent? Doubt Mich. offered job at this time to Cutckiffe.

Gil Brandt has long been one of the biggest windbags in football. He talks to anyone who calls himself a reporter. And he hasn't been connected in years.
December 9th, 2014 at 11:25 PM ^
Henson is laughing at this.
So yes it has come to this in 2014 - Gregg Henson is more credible than Gil Brandt!

At least now we can trim the bs reporters down, in no way could of UM offer Cutcliffe before at least half a dozen other names. If he's not interested, that's fine by me.
December 9th, 2014 at 11:27 PM ^
He may have been offered, but was not fully offered the job.

and you asked Billy to ask Susan to ask Mary if she liked you and then you heard back that she didn't? That's what happened.
December 10th, 2014 at 7:45 AM ^
Yeah, that's why I always asked such questions verbally, and never slipped them the note that read, "Do you like me? Check 'Yes' or 'No.'"
If I was gonna get rejected, I didn't want to have a written record of it.
