OT: current Nebraska OL rips athletic director
I think Nebraska made a mistake. 4 division titles and this is the one year they DON'T lose 4 games under Pelini.
This'll go down as the worst decision Eichorst will make in his career. He don't care tho. Just biding his time til Wisconsin opens up.
— Matthew Finnin (@StepDaddyFinnin) November 30, 2014
At the end of the day Bo was the only one who gave a shit about us. You think Eichorst or Pearlman gave a shit? All they care about is $$$
— Matthew Finnin (@StepDaddyFinnin) November 30, 2014
I can guarantee not one of us has ever even had a conversation with either of them.

Here's hoping that if we hire Miles that he brings in Pelini as his DC again. Although I'm pretty sure Pelini won't have a lot of trouble finding another HC gig.

No way, his defenses at Neb have been crap since Suh graduated. I'd take retaining Mattison over him in a heartbeat!

November 30th, 2014 at 3:06 PM ^
That was how we rationalized the GERG hire.
Usually, if a coach comes from one side of the ball, he'll still be closely involved in that side as HC.
November 30th, 2014 at 3:32 PM ^
Suck or not, his defenses have still been better than Pelini the last four years.
November 30th, 2014 at 4:10 PM ^
November 30th, 2014 at 4:18 PM ^
Per FEI, we had the #37 defense last year and #40 this year.
November 30th, 2014 at 3:34 PM ^
His coach was Miles.

is not fair.
You're omitting that Nebraska got the "let's show off our shiny new toy" treatment by the B1G in 2011 and was given the toughest cross-over games immediately.
Cross-over Games
2011
Wisconsin
Ohio State
Penn State
2012
Wisconsin
Ohio State
Penn State
After Rotation
2013
Illinois
Purdue

lol wow what a brutal schedule of crossover games. OSU during the Fickell year when even Michigan could beat them. Penn State was meh. Wisconsin's been a good program, but again, they certainly weren't Alabama or anything. By the way, Nebraska was annihilated by Wisconsin in 2011, 48-17. In 2012, they were crushed by OSU 63-38. They beat Wisconsin but then were famously run off the field by Wisconsin in the championship game. Wisconsin scored 70! So yeah. Those games weren't that tough at all, and the victories were mostly very close (at least just checking final scores), and the losses were often humiliating losses.
Also just wanted to say, he's obviously not a terrible coach. And I realize the disadvantages Nebraska has. It might very well turn out to be a bad idea IF Nebraska just can't really be the elite program they once were. But given their history, which is comparable to Michigan, it's understandable they're not satisfied with a guy who was producing less than Carr was, for all the shit Carr got, not to mention the Big Ten was better when Carr coached. Pelini has made his record look pretty good by basically almost never being upset, at least any kind of big upset, and he's had very few tough games on the schedule to muddy it.
November 30th, 2014 at 3:48 PM ^
Go figure, they "suffered" thru four 9-Win & three 10-Win seasons and thought he should be fired. Either they don't have the patience that Michigan does or they have higher standards, wonder which one it is???
November 30th, 2014 at 4:31 PM ^
They gave him seven years - as long as RichRod and Hoke combined here - so how does that demonstrate that they have less patience than us?
November 30th, 2014 at 2:49 PM ^
Seems shocking on many levels, but they better already have their guy lined up. The longer this takes for them, the worse it gets.
Need to splash right away to minimize that bad pub.
November 30th, 2014 at 2:50 PM ^
Frost must be locked up
November 30th, 2014 at 2:52 PM ^
I doubt they hire Frost, a guy with no HC experience. Pelini didn't either, and schools tend to hire the opposite of the guy they just fired.
November 30th, 2014 at 3:12 PM ^
^^^ This is a profound statement pertaining to Michigan when you think about. Carr is replaced by RR who is replace by Hoke. Oops.
November 30th, 2014 at 3:40 PM ^
Dude Frost is the guy. I'd bet anything.
November 30th, 2014 at 2:50 PM ^
Some folks are pointing to his record against actual competition though. I haven't gone through and analyzed myself, but the numbers didn't look pretty.

The most surprising thing to me is that these guys are juniors and sophomores (and recruits). That's going to be a tough situation for any coach to come in to.
November 30th, 2014 at 2:53 PM ^
It's a move they'll regret at Nebraska.
I'd like to see us interview him. At least see if there's a fit.
November 30th, 2014 at 3:28 PM ^
November 30th, 2014 at 3:30 PM ^
I'd like to see us interview him...
...for the defensive coordinator position if Mattison leaves with Coach Hoke.

November 30th, 2014 at 2:56 PM ^
But this can go two ways.
1.) They replace Pelini with a better coach who will win the big games vs top 25 teams and win conference titles.
OR
2.) They they just made a big fucking mistake and will wander in the desert much like Michigan has for majority of this decade.
Honestly, I hope it's #2. I guess misery needs company. Nebraska does have the resources to be great again though, again much like Michigan.
November 30th, 2014 at 3:01 PM ^
Nebraska has been wandering in the desert even longer than us. They have not been to a BCS type bowl since 2002 and have not won a conference title since 1999.
November 30th, 2014 at 3:52 PM ^
wandering in the desert, yeah. Not defending Pellini, but. . .
November 30th, 2014 at 3:50 PM ^
Unlike Michigan, Nebraska has the DESIRE to be great at football.
November 30th, 2014 at 2:59 PM ^
This is a really dumb move on Nebraska's part.
Of course they would love to have another Tom Osbourne take control of their program.
Problem is that a guy like Osbourne is a once-every-fifty years type of coach who came into nearly ideal circumstances.
Pelini was doing pretty well to restore NU to the level they were at under Solich.
Again, just a dumb move by the NU AD.
November 30th, 2014 at 4:27 PM ^
Osborne was a guy who couldn't win the big one up until the last four years of his career. If he had retired after the 1993 season, he'd be remembered for the 1983 team and the failed two-point conversion against Miami. That was when the Nebraska-Oklahoma game was a big thing, and Osborne was 5-12 against Barry Switzer.
Still, Nebraska did have a great run from 1994-1997.
November 30th, 2014 at 5:13 PM ^
Rampant steroid use can do that. Or so the rumor goes. >.>
November 30th, 2014 at 3:01 PM ^
November 30th, 2014 at 3:04 PM ^
Eichorst has done nothing but hire Wisconsin cronies since Harvey Perlman anointed him AD.
I can't wait for the Husker Nation response to getting a 19-19 coach from Pitt.
November 30th, 2014 at 3:07 PM ^
67–27 and they let him go? OK, Nebraska.
Also, new CC prediction: Nebraska hires Harbaugh. Michigan Stadium crumbles to the ground from the force of UM alumni facepalming across the globe.
EDIT: just checked Solich's record at Ohio. He's doing well considering where he is at. I guess Nebraska just doesn't like good coaches.
November 30th, 2014 at 3:09 PM ^
I'd say the Neb players have a legitimate grievance
November 30th, 2014 at 3:10 PM ^
I don't get this move either. Not saying Pelini is the same as Carr, but this feels very much like when people wanted a proven winner chased out (and I'll admit there were times I was one of them with Carr). We found out the hard way that things can get a whole hell of a lot worse, and I have a feeling Nebraska will, too. There has to be something personal between Pelini and the AD.

Eh, probably, I guess. After a 9-3 season just seems like a weird time, not to mention with Michigan and Florida also in the market.

Under Pelini, Nebraska was usually pretty good every year. But when presented with a marquee game and the chance to become great, they always completely flopped. And they flopped hard. Pelini has been around long enough to where you know what you're getting with him. A decent to good coach who will win you 8-9 games every year, occasionally 10, but will not be able to get you over the hump to a championship.
At Nebraska, I have to imagine that's just not going to cut it in the long run.

Shit, even Hoke has more hardware to show for his efforts than Pelini does. Hoke at least won a Sugar Bowl. Pelini never won a conference title, never went to a BCS bowl, much less won one. Every marquee game his team has played, or most of them anyway, involve his team's falling flat on their face.

I wouldn't. Isn't one of our program goals the big ten championship? How many does Pelini have? The same number as Hoke.
November 30th, 2014 at 3:21 PM ^
What % of coaches have performed better than Pelini over his tenure there?
