Board of Regents to meet today regarding "Concussion-gate"
http://www.mlive.com/news/ann-arbor/index.ssf/2014/09/u-m_president_boa…
Per Mlive, UM president and board of regents to meet this morning regarding the handling of the injuries to Shane Morris. Hopefully this meeting ends with the decision to relive both Brandon and Hoke of their irresponsibilities!

As they say in pulp fiction,
Hopefully they decide to do the right thing here instead of sitting on their hands. I'm not entirely convinced anything but a slap on the wrist to either Brandon or Hoke will be issued.

I feel like this should be a posbang thread
September 30th, 2014 at 10:11 AM ^
I pos'd you just for keeping RR as your pic. There was a time when seeing RR made me think of the ineptitude of the 2008-10 time frame. Now I long for that ineptitude.

Could someone with access please send them the DB resignation petition? Just get the idea out there in case it's not in their heads already.
September 30th, 2014 at 10:21 AM ^
Is there an actual petition circulating? Can I sign it?
September 30th, 2014 at 10:25 AM ^
If you can remember your student ID. If you need to reset your password do the same:

Looking at at ~2200 sigs so far
September 30th, 2014 at 10:33 AM ^
Benjamin Braden signed that petition (#2330)
September 30th, 2014 at 10:39 AM ^
Unless of course you were #2331. lol
September 30th, 2014 at 11:04 AM ^
Bobby Boucher at 2809.
September 30th, 2014 at 12:49 PM ^
Holy crap.
September 30th, 2014 at 10:51 AM ^
Happy to do it!
September 30th, 2014 at 10:52 AM ^
My UM login still works! I'm terribly excited about that.
September 30th, 2014 at 12:14 PM ^
It's easy for alumni too. It took me about 30 seconds to retreive my uniqname with some personal information and update my password to conform to the new requirements. So don't be discouraged alumni, you can make your voices heard as well.
September 30th, 2014 at 10:28 AM ^
Yes. Only if you have a umich login.
September 30th, 2014 at 10:33 AM ^
This extends to the UMICH IT department. I haven't worked for UM in 2 1/2 years yet I was able to use my Uniqname to login and sign. Great work! FIRE BRANDON!
September 30th, 2014 at 10:47 AM ^
I'm pretty sure they keep your Uniquename active for eternity. I know as an alum my umich email still works. I use it to sign into the alumni assciation website, and if I needed to request a transcript for grad school I would probably use it for that as well. I assume as an employee they would gvie you access to your W-2s and retirement information for eternity as well. That said I know your comment was a bit tongue in cheek
September 30th, 2014 at 10:51 AM ^
It was tongue and cheek...but after your post I was curious what systems I still had access to.
Answer: Not good in regards to the security of sensitive information within the UMHS infrastructure.
Stopping now since all that is auditable - but might raise some "anonymous" concerns to some people in the know at UMHS.
This after reading the Medical Records are now more highly sought after by hackers than SSN's.

SchrondingersCat has got you covered. If you didn't know about it, though, just think of how many other people don't either. Spread it. It's worth adding to the pile. On it's own I doubt it's enough, though.
Maybe the mods can be super kind and bump the link (doesn't have to be my post specifically, but it'd be nice if the link doesn't get buried).
September 30th, 2014 at 10:00 AM ^
Maybe I read it wrong, but I think the meeting is just a regular 'ol type of meeting which going to have Concussion-gate put on the adgenda at the last minute. Not a meeting soley for the situation. And the bigger issue is really Brandon-gate. I.e. the scandal of how he still has a job. Hopefully that is addressed as well. I somehow doubt anything happens though.
September 30th, 2014 at 10:12 AM ^
if they just cover the DB press release, and then parrot the statement, then nothing will happen. What really needs to be on the agenda is the ethics of the AD in the handling of this. Even then Hoke is the fall guy.

They'd have to be in a cave (or on a sailboat in the middle of the ocean) to avoid the cacophony.
Nevertheless, +Eleventy-Billion to Dr. Schlissel for being the adult here.

Eleventy-Billion made me laugh
September 30th, 2014 at 10:01 AM ^
OR,
they are just meeting to look like they "are doing something" and will appoint a person to make a study about how player safety is handled in all sports whose report will be given to a new committee blah blah blah
September 30th, 2014 at 10:10 AM ^
I don't think so. There are easy political points to be scored by canning DB right now. And these are politicians who want credit for that firing.
I think there's good news coming.
EDIT: I just read the article and have no idea how the OP is drawing his conclusions about this meeting.
September 30th, 2014 at 10:06 AM ^
It's not a regular Regents meeting. I think the next one is schedule for Oct 16 or so. There may be a separate "communications" meeting that's held at regular intervals with all the Regents present, but it can't be called a Regent's meeting because that may trigger certain legal obligations.
September 30th, 2014 at 11:25 AM ^
The major legal issue relating to a Regents' meeting is compliance with the Open Meetings Act since the Board of Regents is a public body. A special meeting of the Regents would have to be publicly announced no earlier than 18 hrs in advance.
For those of you who are interested, here is a handbook from the state on the Open Meetings Act: http://www.michigan.gov/documents/ag/OMA_handbook_287134_7.pdf.

guess also.
"Concussion-gate" has massive traction on this site, but really nationally it has not really taken like I think a lot of people on this site think it has. Mike and Mike were discussion it this morning and basically said "if they were winning it would not have been a big deal and if they start to win again it will be quickly forgotten."
It is not sniffing a "top story" on SportsCenter. It is being treated like a Penn State level scandal here but the conclusion by a lot of the talking heads seems to remain "well they really need to beat Rutgers."
This site is calling for boycotts, rallies, and petitions. The rest of the country is kind of like "meh, well it looks like Hoke is on his way out after this year."

Hell, I even heard something on NPR....which means it has penetrated tinto the guilty liberal folk back channel.....now that's National
September 30th, 2014 at 12:01 PM ^
It was on the local news here in Raleigh yesterday.
September 30th, 2014 at 10:25 AM ^
I see this too,
not on front page bleacher report
not on front page CNN
not on front page Fox News
7th story on Fox Sports
media has moved on
September 30th, 2014 at 10:28 AM ^
You're not suggesting that because the media moves on that the University does as well, are you?.
September 30th, 2014 at 10:37 AM ^
I'm suggesting that adminstrative political organizations like the Board of Regents tend to choose the path of least resistance and least work - like issuing another "statement" rather than making hard choices.
September 30th, 2014 at 1:24 PM ^
I can't disagree with that. Reminds me of the "this calls for immediate discussion" scene of "Monty Python's Life of Brian."
September 30th, 2014 at 10:31 AM ^
You haven't been paying attention. This story is everywhere.
September 30th, 2014 at 12:24 PM ^
of the national (press) interest defies reality. Hence, you are qualified to work for dave brandon.
September 30th, 2014 at 1:29 PM ^
just saw 2 different (long) segments on Michigan on ESPN within 45 minutes--with commentary. That's national traction---and a story that's not going away.
September 30th, 2014 at 10:02 AM ^
I think 7 of the 8 Regents are attorneys. Should be interesting to see how the view the handling of the situation since Brandon's crap-tastic statement was probably written by attorneys.
September 30th, 2014 at 10:43 AM ^
She might have some insight into the proper actions for the training staff. If it's true that Brandon tried to coerce the MDs on staff to alter their versions of the incident, that will hit home with her.
September 30th, 2014 at 10:57 AM ^
And Brandon is one of them, don't forget that...
September 30th, 2014 at 10:03 AM ^
Did Brandon try to get the medical staff to lie or withhold info? If so he will be fired today.
September 30th, 2014 at 10:04 AM ^
Good news, but can we not continue the inane trend of adding "-gate" to everything even mildly scandalous? It didn't even make sense 40 years ago.
September 30th, 2014 at 10:17 AM ^
looks like Profwootgate is firing up
September 30th, 2014 at 10:20 AM ^
Going back in time and renaming the Watergate Hotel to the Waterpussy Hotel. That should solve this trend...or make it much more hilarious.
